Why Zombie is Zombie - the backstory

IamtheZombie · 30/12/2013 17:59

Zombie is periodically asked what her backstory is and why she speaks in the third person. Bits of the story are scattered around various parts of the site (as are a few of her limbs). The story is fairly long and a bit complicated. She's therefore putting this thread here so she can simply refer people to it rather than trying to tell it all again.

She has found 2 posts that between them tell pretty much the whole story.

The first one is her initial reply on a Zombie appreciation thread started by slatternlymother in September 2012. The second one is the OP of a thread Zombie started in September 2013 which brings the story pretty much up to date.

Blooming 'eck Zombie, I'd thought I hadn't seen you much this year. You've had a tough old time of it and no mistake.
I namechange a fair bit but we've spoken before and you've always been very lovely and engaging. It's great to see an update.

Apiarist · 04/12/2015 17:36

It would be lovely to see more of you on Zombie's ongoing threads.

It's been a privilege to have been part of the Phalanx/Team DamnBuggerandFuck, posting almost daily for the last couple of years.

Lots of tears and laughter, especially at the reunion with ZLad.

Brief pre new year update:

Liver clinic confirmed that my operation was 100% successful. Both visible tumours were excised with clear margins. Intraoperative ultrasound showed nothing else of concern anywhere in the liver. They also removed my gall bladder while they were there. Histopathology confirmed that the mets were definitely from the more recent breast cancer (hormone receptor status consistent with 2nd cancer but not 1st cancer). I was cleared to resume chemo as soon as possible.

Interesting information: Most people are aware that the liver is the only organ capable of regeneration. But, did you know that if half of your liver is removed the remainder will fully regenerate in 6 weeks? As I only had a couple of small sections (21 grams each) removed, my regeneration was probably completed within a few days.

Oncologists very, very pleased with results. I resume chemo on 7th January 2016.

Both liver and oncology consultants stressed to me how weird unusual I am. It's common to do a liver resection for colorectal cancer mets but rare for breast cancer mets. The very experienced oncologist I saw at my last clinic appointment had never met another BC patient who had a liver resection. I feel as though I'm on the cutting edge (no pun intended) of current treatment protocols.

They're keeping me alive and they're learning things from me that may benefit other patients.

I call that a win / win situation.

Over the next couple of months I'll be undergoing the full spectrum of scans to check for other mets. The longer TDM1 can keep those mets from appearing, the better chance I have that other treatments will be availble when the inevitable occurs.

Zombie, I have no idea why you felt the need to post as you did....
Suffice it to say, you don't need to justify yourself to anyone....
You've gone through a hard journey. And are continuing to do so. Keep going!
You are a remarkable woman. Take that as high praise from me as I don't give it easily (I'm a tough old cow!)

mineofuselessinformation · 30/12/2015 23:26

Oh bugger. Fat fingers and all..
Bloody well keep going - there's a whole load of us who will miss you if you don't.
Xxx (Even if kissed aren't allowed)
(My phone is giving me hell over this!)

mineofuselessinformation · 30/12/2015 23:27

I'll raise a glass to you tomorrow Zombie

ExitPursuedByABear · 30/12/2015 23:31

Yo Zombie.

Happy New Year my dear.

Queenbean · 30/12/2015 23:49

I've always wondered about your posting style and never asked. What a remarkable woman you are.

Best wishes for 2016 for you, happy new year Z Flowers

IamtheZombie · 30/12/2015 23:52

mine, no one has made Zombie feel she needs to justify herself. (Well, no one who matters a whit anyway.) My 'story' has been running on here for 4 years and there are bits of it scattered over dozens of threads. It's just easier to have a thread like this to which people can be referred.

Thanks, Theydont. [champagne]

Yo, Exit. HNY to you as well and many thanks for being there over the years.

urbanturban · 31/12/2015 00:15

Wishing you a healthy and rewarding 2016 Zombie.......didn't know all of your story before now, though I love your posting style (and the advice you give!) and always look out for you!

TPel · 31/12/2015 00:40

I've lurked on your threads for years Zombie.

Wishing you a safe and happy 2016 Flowers

MagpieCursedTea · 31/12/2015 00:47

I've seen and read your threads over the years but until I saw this thread today, I didn't realise just how much you've been through and conquered. You are an amazing person Zombie and an inspiration.

Rummikub · 31/12/2015 01:08

Zombie, your backstory link was incredibly hard to read. I am glad you now have a fabulous relationship with your son, it's the least you deserve x

IamtheZombie · 31/12/2015 01:12

Rummikub, I give all credit to his adoptive mom for raising him to be such an amazing man.

For those who don't want to wait months (or years) for updates, please join us on my ongoing threads. The most recent one is here.

We laugh, we cry and we keep on keeping on.

Rummikub · 31/12/2015 01:21

Yes it sounds like she's done a terrific job. And your son has the influence of 2 amazing women in his life.

FattyNinjaOwl · 31/12/2015 01:28

zombie you truly are amazing. I only joined MN at the beginning of 2015, but I've spotted you about and your posting style always brought a smile to my face.

You have been through hell and back, yet you're still standing. I take my hat off to you.
