If my life ever becomes simple, i will die of shock.

Apparently the people living in the 4 bed house, got wind of the fact that they were going to be evicted and did a runner with a loaded removals van on sunday night. However there is apparently a young girl still stopping there (she shouldn't be) and she is inviting loads of people round to stay. I have rang the H/A and told them but all they will say, is that it's being investigated and it could take 12 weeks to establish wether they left and if they want to come back.
We drove around to have a look at the house, and it's impossible to tell from the outside, if it's empty. The front window has been boarded up because they smashed it, and the garden has been trashed.
I can see that this is going to drive me mad before long

Oh nutty what a mare If there are squatters in there they'll trash the place. Just what you need.

BUT maybe that means that (a) less people will want it and (b) the council will have to completely do it up before you move in (if you get it), so you'll have new carpets, paint etc.

nutcracker · 09/03/2004 12:12

Unfortunatly not CD. It is the most popular estate that the H/A own, and i will have a real fight on my hands to get it, whatever condition it's in.
They won't do it up either (they never do), but i don't mind that, i'm quite prepared to do it myself.

FFS - Dp has just spoken to the estate manager to see if he knew about the people moving out of the 4 bed house. He did, and apparently they do have a forwarding address for them. They also know that someone is still there, but don't seem in the slightest bit bothered.
I am very confused now, it seems like the H/A are saying that as long as someone is still living there, wether they should be or not that it's o.k to leave it as it is.
The estate manager said that he tought we do have a good chance of getting it if it does become empty, but he said that it will need lots of work doing to it. We don't care one bit about that and have told them this several times before.
Dp is going to drive back round to see if there are any lights on later. I don't know what else i can do now.

I am getting angrier by the minute. How dare they mess with my life like this
Am trying to think how i can find out who the girl is and if she should be there, any suggestions ????

CountessDracula · 09/03/2004 15:55

Ahem, if they are so full on about not letting you have a place with more bedrooms than you need, why are they so laissez faire about one person living in a 4 bed house? Seems very unfair and inconsistent to me. Maybe you could offer to do a swap with remaining person?

nutcracker · 09/03/2004 15:58

Never thought of that CD. I amnot sure at the moment wether the girl is a family member or not, but i get the feeling that she isn't, so she has no right to stay there. If that is the case though it could take the H/A 3 months to find that out and then they have to try to get her out. I'm also confused as to why the family would leave a forwarding address if they were doing a runner. Something certainly doesn't add up.
The same family did a similar thing before, and then returned when they knew someone was on to them. I think they were subletting then.

Tortington · 10/03/2004 09:06

usually nutty when refering to exchanges - it works like this in reality - one family approaches the other who were going to leave soonish anyway and move on, and usually a bit of money changes hands( hush hush) for them to do a swap. then the family that were going to move anyway end up in your old house - you in theirs - hey presto two weeks later the other family move on to wherever they were intending to move on to anyway, the housing oficer knows this is happening and is powerless to do anything about it ususally.
