Oh I see. Do you think how a child does at school deoends on the school or the child ??? As i said I think dd1 would do well anywhere but as for dd2 who is not so bright I don't know.

codswallop · 18/01/2004 19:23

Both probably - and hte parents...

OP posts:
nutcracker · 18/01/2004 19:50

Agree that parents play a big part in it. I'm not the type of parent to not give a damn about my childs education and make sure i encourage them with everything and help them if needed.

tiredemma · 18/01/2004 20:37

sorry to butt in nutcracker, depending on where abouts in kingstanding you are you could probably get dd1 into streetly school when the time was nescessary, i think its supposed to be a good school.
incidently i went to great barr sec and it was a good school when i went there and it still has the same headmaster, what bad things have you heard about it?
i really hope you find somewhere, ive been following your posts, i give a big thumbs down to the flat above the shops idea!
it may be worth trying for a house through the council for kingstanding and then trying for exchange in a couple of years, like i said kingstanding is not as bad as people think.
keeping my fingers crossed for you.!!

nutcracker · 19/01/2004 20:12

tiredemma - I went to Great Barr school too. It wasn't to bad then but I'd heard that it wasn't as good now.

nutcracker · 19/01/2004 20:16

Here's my update for today !

I phoned the counicl about the empty house and surprise surprise it's been allocated.

I phoned castle vale and they are going to look in to the fact that I haven't yet been offered anything yet.

Found out that because of my anti social neighbour it's very unlikely that I would be able to exchange with anyone as I have got to inform them about her.

Recieved an email from the mnetter who's been allocated house in yorkshire. She had different circumstances to mine but was offered 3 seperate houses to choose from within 4 weeks of applying.

mez75 · 19/01/2004 21:46

Hi nutcracker, just reading your house hunting saga, don't know that much about the council lists but have you tried sandwell council ie durham estate-hamstead, because whenever i go through it they seem to have vacant properties! Would you have any luck with Focus Housing.

nutcracker · 20/01/2004 10:58

MEZ75 - No I hadn't tried sandwell council (forgot about them). Is that estate o.k though ??

Have tried focus housing but because i'm already a housing association tennan then i have to be nominated, which I was but I got turned down because their own list was too full.

codswallop · 20/01/2004 11:30

tiredemma
did i teach you too?

OP posts:
nutcracker · 20/01/2004 11:38

How old are you TIREDEMMA ??? I was at Great Barr school from 89-94

mez75 · 20/01/2004 13:24

Nutcracker as far as I know it's ok there always seems to be empty ones i went through the other day and there were two bottom floor, not sure what you call them, you know the 3 floor ones, that have upstairs to the bedrooms. sorry to sound a bit dim!

codswallop · 20/01/2004 13:27

and me( in a somewhat different capacity ) from 93 till 2001.

OP posts:
codswallop · 20/01/2004 13:28

have you ring castle vale back yet?

OP posts:
fio2 · 20/01/2004 13:45

nutty whereabouts in south staffs were you looking? I am just being nosey, my mum lives in south staffs and I am in mid staffs atm

nutcracker · 20/01/2004 15:26

CODDY - I haven't rung them back yet as they said it will take a couple of days for them to find out. If they haven't rung by tommorow afternoon then I'll ring them back.

FIO2 - I would prefer to be close to Burton because i don't drive. By close I don't mean smack bang in the centre though as i don't like the houses there. We actually have a form for South Staffs council but could never decide which areas to put down as my DPs family live uo there and i don't want to be too close to any of them. We aren't actually talking to his mom and dad now though so....
We found alot of the areas to be to remote to which is no good for me.

nutcracker · 20/01/2004 15:27

Bit of a thick question coming up...

What areas are in mid staffs ????

fio2 · 20/01/2004 15:32

well I'm in stafford which I am pressuming is mid staffs

fio2 · 20/01/2004 15:33

I also know there are quite a few HA house in cannock area available

JanHR · 20/01/2004 15:33

Nutty, Winshill & Stapenhill aren't bad areas of burton and handy for town centre by bus.

fio2 · 20/01/2004 15:35

Jan knows burton better than me dont you love? My Dad lives in Newborough

nutcracker · 20/01/2004 15:44

Irecognise some of those areas. I'll have to get the list out later and have another look. The problem the last time was that dp's family were stickinhg there noses in about which areas we should pick.
A friend of dp's lives in Cannock and he's always going on about there being lots of HA houses. I will have to pick his brains a bit more.
I haven't been to cannock since I was about 8 (my dad lived there during trial seperation).
FIO2 - Do you know if there are any grotty areas of Stafford ???? Only ask because I remember seeing a house to rent on Fish 4 homes and it was really cheap, couldn't understand why.

JanHR · 20/01/2004 15:50

Fio I have inly been in burton since Dec99, but a lot of our friend s already lived here and they told us the good areas

fio2 · 20/01/2004 15:52

avoid highfields and moss pit/rising brook, Silkmore is quite grotty too but we used to live near silkmore and never had any trouble. Cotonfields is nicer and Littleworth if you are looking at HA houses.

Let me know where they are and I will find out for you.

fio2 · 20/01/2004 15:53

Jan that is good that you had friends to find nice areas for you, it is always worrying when you have to move somewhere you know nothing about.....

nutcracker · 20/01/2004 15:58

I won't consider any area I don't know now until I've had it checked out on MN
I'll pick your brains FIO2 when I find out the areas. Have heard of littleworth I think.
