What is the creepiest or scariest story you know? I don't care if its true or just an urban legend or story. I am in the mood to be creeped out plus I'm trying not to have to clean. I was driving home from work last night down some dark country lanes and couldn't get the stories about the stick/shadow men things out of my head. V scary!

Dad got rid of it a while afterwards, I don't know why though. I really have bad memories of it :(

Dh just reminded me of our story. We moved into our new house. In the middle of the night I heard my dd aged 7 whimpering in her sleep so I got up and asked her what was wrong. She was freezing cold, she was lying in bed and there was absolutely no sign of her duvet. I was half asleep and freaked out enough about living in a new place. I turned all the lights on and came downstairs, can't remember why now but found the duvet downstairs in the living room. None of us have any idea how it got there. Dd isn't subject to sleepwalking and nothing like that ever happened since.

Can I just say about the whole black eyed children thing..it's such a load of bollocks. I would perhaps be considered as one because I have unusually large dilated pupils. My mum used to say how scary they looked when I was young and how she hated doing the night feeds because I used to state at her with my black eyes! The optician I went to recently has commented on it as well and when checking dd said she had it slightly too. It's cool I think ;). But more likely to need glasses as more light is able to penetrate the pupil.

My brother passed away last year. He wasn't a nice person, he did terrible things to my sister and I when we were growing up. Before I found out, I had a very vivid dream that one of my brothers had died, it was incredibly real. I spent the night online checking if there were any news reports indicating any of them had passed away. When I found out he'd died, I had a really strange dream, that he was on CCTV footage and he said'
"Look where I've ended up."
It was odd. At his funeral, it was really strange because despite being violent and sexually and emotionally abusive, he was still one of the lads and all his friends were crying at his funeral. My sister and I were smirking at one point, it was so bizarre. That night the strangest thing happened. I awoke and could hear a voice outside my window saying hello, hello, hello. DH said it was a cat making noises, but there was nothing there. It would be something that he would do. It really frightened me and sometimes I think he haunts my dreams. It is odd. Grieving process maybe, but odd.
Also, when my mother was dying, before I had been told, I burst out crying one night, certain that she was going to die. There was no reason to suspect she was so ill. I had a vivid dream of a big white dog crying at the moon and I knew something terrible was going to happen. I was only 22 at the time and in a very vulnerable situation. After she died, I dreamed that I was in the bath at her house. Suddenly in the dream she appeared to be sat on the loo and said cheerfully,
"Well, just because I'm dead and buried doesn't mean we can't keep in touch!"
She still comes sometimes and it's comforting, but my brother rather leaves me cold.
Strangely, each time I've been pregnant, my ASD son has known before me. He says the babies are waiting in a place called Baby Sky and they fly into the mummies tummies. No way of knowing it's true, but he seems very certain :) .....

Dd and I were upstairs in my bed having a chat whilst Dh was downstairs one night, we heard him coming upstairs and Dd said, lets pretend we're sleeping.
We hear Dh closing the living room door, walking loudly upstairs then stopping on the landing, we're smirking as we wait on him coming into the room (we play this "trick" on him frequently) Then we hear him coughing, from the living room...

Oh God Popcorn, that's scary. It's strange how frequently these things happen. I know it sounds weird, but I think there are many things going on which we just cannot hope to understand. Has that ever happened to you before?

I remember this from a similar thread tears ago... Have you all seen the haunted painting The Hands Resist Him? Was listed on eBay along with pictures of it at night when the characters woke up Sad

It is bloody creepy so I won't tempt late-night wobblers with a link.

Just google it, what a horrid picture. It's difficult to tear the eyes away :(

The story goes that at night the dolly holds the boy at gunpoint and he begs to leave the picture. Brrrrrrr.....

The hands resist him?! Why did I google that! Creepy looking picture, why would anyone want that in their home?

Reminds me of a picture my late nanna had. It was a small girl looking upset in the corner of the room holding a doll and there's a dog watching her. Used to creep me out

Well....I had forgotten this happened until now. Was driving along a country lane, it was day time, and it was really raining. I came round a corner, and in the road was a man on a horse, he was wearing a massive yellow sou'wester hat and coat, he was holding a longish pole/stick in each hand that was white, with white things on the end, like a rolled up sock size. He was not holding the reins, but waving these sticks around the sides of the horse's head. I remember the horse was chestnut.

Initially, I thought he must have been training the horse or something, like trying to make it bomb proof.....but ????? WTAF ??

Blonderthanred, I am totally in your phone. I?m actually watching you through the camera lens. I got all hurt when I read that you were ?getting spooked at shadows?, then I realised that you meant actual shadows, not, y?know, me.

Wannabe, I didn?t mean to spook you, sorry. Seriously, there is nothing to worry about.

YouMakeMeWanna... I?m pretty sure my sister is living with ?Trenderman?... He has a ridiculous quiff, wears nothing but skinny jeans, has his boxers on display at all times... Now, he is scary.

Just popping in this morning to apologise for The Hands Resist Him (the artist has said he thinks it's a load of rubbish if that helps)

Karma in action; as I was nodding off I kept thinking about the stick men (hadn't even googled them or read the earlier story) when suddenly my youngest let out a piercing scream in his sleep from down the landing... and I was almost too scared to get out of bed and see to him

(He was having a nightmare about rabbits Grin )

FFS, it's 10pm here, why did I open this thread?

That video of the masked arsonist actually made a knot in my stomach. That is some scary ass mask Sad

I do have a "woo" story that I've told on here before but it isn't scary, more comforting so don't think it'll fit in here.

Just remembered another one, my dd and I were staying in a hotel in glasgow overnight whilst going to the theatre so my dh was home alone. No one likes staying alone in our house as its "strange" at times, but he is a big man, not freaked out easily etc, haha!
So, he goes to bed, just lies down and hears someone thundering upstairs, he is shaking like a leaf, heart hammering but is scared to go and investigate.
He said the atmosphere in the room totally changed and he just knew there was something there, so he pulled the duvet over his head and kept his eyes closed! The next time we go away for the night he said he is coming too!

I find EVP (voices recorded on white noise) quite spooky. Before having the DC I used to sit in the dark with headphones on and watch youtube videos of it. Definitely wouldn't nowadays though, far too much of a scaredy cat!

I've told my (well, my fiancé's) car crash story before on Mumsnet and it received a few scathing replies.

Basically he was in a car crash that should have killed him. Even the paramedics thought they were dealing with a fatality. He was airlifted to the BIG hospital about 50 miles away.

He had no breaks, only 2 cuts that needed a couple of stitches each and a few bruises.

The car was completely crumpled in on the drivers side by a tree, he impacted it full on the drivers door at about 50 miles an hour (came round a corner straight into a puddle of diesel and lost it, skidded sideways straight into a tree).

The weird thing is that we had been trying for a baby for a while, and at the point he crashed I was just pregnant but didn't yet know, he had a good reason to live.

Also, on my way to the hospital (my mum drove me) both my mum an I saw a huge, pure white and shining stag. It was a dull, dark, damp March evening, yet it seemed to shine. It was also standing right at the edge of the A35 right outside Dorchester, right in the lay by, just standing completely still.

Maybe it is jut pure coincidence, but I genuinely believe that he was given another chance and my mum and I saw that stag as a sign that he would be ok. Almost like a guardian angel.
