What is the creepiest or scariest story you know? I don't care if its true or just an urban legend or story. I am in the mood to be creeped out plus I'm trying not to have to clean. I was driving home from work last night down some dark country lanes and couldn't get the stories about the stick/shadow men things out of my head. V scary!

OMG some of these stories are very scary.

Not in the same league as some but during a night shift one of my patients woke up saying she'd just dreamt her husband had been visiting her. At around 7am we got a phone call from her daughter to say he had died in the night Sad

When I was about 14 my friends and I went through a stage of playing ouji board. I was a scaredy cat so decided not to sit in the circle I just watched.

The spirits weren't coming through the board by moving the cup they were speaking through my friend who was the youngest of the group. She was getting very scared and said a black spirit was coming to her. Then she shouted stacey your grandpa's chasing it away with his stick. She then described my granddad in detail and said she was speaking to him. So I said if its really him what did I always do? (Only very close family knew) and she said sing all the way to nursery and back home. Everyone knew you. Which was true, I instantly started crying.

Another time they played (again I sat out, still freaks me out) they were told a boy A would be stabbed (he was) a girl J would be raped (her step father) and the other would be an alcoholic (she was). They tried to smash the glass and it kept bouncing all over until someone managed to drop a heavy brick on it.

Another one happened to my aunt. My uncle her brother died at the age of 26 and her other brother died of cot death. It was the 70's and everyone was into ouji boards, fortune tellers and such. She went to a white witches meeting. In the middle of the table was a goats skull. This skull was moving around the table on its own. Finally stopping at my aunt. While the white witch spoke to her there was gasps round the room. My aunt was oblivious to the goings on until the meeting was finished and the group approached asking what it was like being transformed. She had no idea what they meant. Apparently her face became a mans (uncle S) and her hands became a babies (uncle I). People who worked with her future hubby actually told him the story before they met. Very strange.

That picture Hands Resist Him is really freaky. The poor boy in the picture looks so sad.And the girl looks really evil, that gave me nightmares for weeks.

They are supposed to talk as well when they think no one is around.

I've finally got through them all now it's daytime. Too scared to read them in the dark!

Ok, I've just googled the hands that resist him, and I have read thus far. Whoeverheardofawormskinrug, Last night I checked in on here as I couldn't sleep and I ended up having to go downstairs and convince OH to come to bed with me, and to leave a bathroom light on, that's enough for a sensitive soul like me!

I've told all before but I get nothing anymore even reading this in bed last night doesn't phase me I think it's because I'm loads more settled now.
There was an area in my old place of work where you instantly felt upset where you stood. It was weird I didn't say anything but then a colleague said it too. One night I'd worked late and had to go back into drop off the car keys as I was off the next day.
It literally took all my self discipline to go in and I switched on all the lights. Terrified I moved through the sad area to the key cupboard chucked the keys in but didn't even sign the book. Ickes the cupboard with shakey hands and ran out of there switching the lights off as I did.
I got to the bottom of the stairs to leave the building and the keys I had just put back were sprawled in a bunch on the floor.
I picked them up and ran like hell. Got to my own car and rang dh is hysterics. He came to meet me. D we took the keys back together.
He believes there is a rational explanation for everything but admitted he had never felt do uneasy in his whole life.

OMG I have just googled The Hands Resist Him, the first search was Wikipedia, I clicked it and the screen went white. I pressed the go back arrow as it was taking ages to load, screen flashed with Wiki page but wouldn't load. I tried another link - not going back to it! - and was scrolling through the pages and the computer froze and logged itself off! I'm not usually susceptible to that sort of thing but this has freaked me out a bit.

Just glad I'm reading this during the day, hopefully I would have forgotten about this by tonight!

So I was reading this thread in bed last night... On my phone, in the dark. Feeling a bit "woo" and then there was an almighty crash against the bedroom door.

I hid under the covers and pathetically rang DP (who was downstairs) to ask him to come investigate as I didn't dare get out of bed.

The cat had knocked the hoover over into the door!

Never again will I read scary threads before bed!

I lived in a flat that was haunted once!

It started about a week after I moved in, the strange things happening.

Little things like putting something down, knowing 100% where I had put the item and then it disappears for days only to turn up in the fridge or somewhere equally ludicrous! As a 19yo i just put it down to being forgetful sometimes for a while...then I went to work in the club I worked weekends in and locked the bolt on the door - I know I did as my sister was with me and forgot her coat and we had to go back in so I double checked the locks when we came back out - when I got home the lock was undone and there was a large muddy footprint on the kitchen floor (but nowhere else) Confused the kitchen was about 10 steps along a hallway so unless an intruder took his boots off just to leave one footprint...

I changed the locks the next day and got another bolt for the inside...so anyway, the following weekend when I got home the key wouldn't go into the lock properly so I couldn't get back in. I rang my dad who came and kicked the door in as he couldn't get it open only to find the spare key in the back of the lock, the lock on and no one in the flat!

I wasn't all that scared but decided to give the spare keys to my mum so the same thing didn't happen again...

About 3 weeks later, I was in bed on Sunday morning after working til 4am and the landline rang. I ignored it as the phone was in the living room and I was in bed and the phone stopped after about 3 rings so I didn't worry about it. About 5 minutes later my sister rang me on my mobile (big old Nokia phone Grin) and asked why I had answered the phone how I did. I hadn't answered the phone and told her this. She then told me that the phone rang three times, was picked up and someone whispered "Yes, Hello?" I laughed and said that was impossible, she must have had the wrong number. I decided to go and check as my sister said she had tried to call back and the line was engaged. When I went not the living room, the phone was moved to the top of the telly in the corner so the wire was stretched taut from the socket and the handset was out of the phone cradle!!! WEIRD!

I moved out after 6 months and the housing officer asked why so I told her. She then laughed and said she had thought the last tennants had been lying!
Apparently the people who lived in the flat before me had complained that there had been intruders in the flat a number of times and blamed other tennants in the building...they also bought a new flashy (then) TV - one of those big heavy ones with a box on the back- and it would switch itself off by the plug on a regular basis and then one day they went out for the day and when they got home they fond the TV wedged tight in the bath...they moved out the next day...Confused

About 10 years ago we lived in this house (me, my mum and my 2 sisters). The man who lived in the house before us had actually died in the house.

I moved out and it was just my mum and little sisters living there, my sisters shared a room.

My mum went to bed one night, her room was next to my old room which was now empty, she heard a noise like somebody knocking on the wall in my old room, she went to my room thinking maybe the window had been left open - it hadnt, so she made her way back to bed and there was that knocking again. Then as she walked past the top of the stairs she heard a noise coming from the livingroom, she had laminate floor and it sounded like something was being dragged across it.

She had to sleep with the light on all night, was so terrified she wanted to get the kids and get out of the house but was too scared to go downstairs.

She moved out not long after that.

Then in her new house she said she was sat in bed one night and she hears this mans voice say "get out" and could smell cigarette smoke. Nobody in the house smoked and there was no men in the house.

I have another story, one about my cousin but i'll write later coz im going to make tea.

One Sunday last year dh and I were in the kitchen getting dinner ready. Ds(10) and dd(6) were outside playing with some of the other children on our street. They had been in and out all day. So dinner was just ready and I was setting the table. I could hear dd upstairs in her room so I asked dh to go up and get her. He shouted up the stairs but got no answer, so he went up. Came down a moment later, totally confused saying there was noone up there. I looked out the front window and both dd and ds were outside the house playing. Yet both dh and I were absolutely convinced he had heard her wandering around her bedroom for the last 5 minutes or so.

My mum also has one she told me when I was younger. When she was a teenager she was round at a friends house one evening. There were a few friends there and as it got later they started telling ghost stories. All of a sudden a religious picture that the parents had hanging on the wall fell off and smashed to pieces. The kids all screamed and the mother came running in to see what had happened. Just as the panic was over and they were all calming down there was a knock on the door. The father had been returning from work and his car had crashed just up the road from the house. He had been killed instantly.
