How do you clean the ruddy things?

Ours looks absolutely disgusting.

washing up liquid and warm water.. If your black insert has holes so you can't fill it up with water, i hose mine out! then i put neutradol powder in the bottom to stop it smelling. Just wash the other bits with soapy water and dry them with an old tea towel straightaway. Will be shiny and new! (did mine yesterday)
sod anthea turner, i'm a great housewife!

lahdeedah · 20/02/2006 15:58

do you mean the polished stainless steel type bins? I spray some Dettol onto a piece of kitchen roll, give it a good rub all over, then polish up with another dry piece. That's the outside anyway - never bothered cleaning inside....... i'm such a slovenly wench........

cupcakes · 20/02/2006 15:58

Can't remember the last time I cleaned the inner.
Am always cleaning the bit people see though.

alliep30 · 20/02/2006 15:59

that makes me sound like a psycho cleaning freak...! i only cleaned mine cos i noticed when i didn't it went mouldy..

Mazzystar · 20/02/2006 16:00

my cleaner does it for me [shame emoticon]

and also keep it hidden under a worksurface so not highly visible.

goldstarlover · 20/02/2006 16:00

never cleaned the inside! outside gets sprayed with dettol

charliecat · 20/02/2006 16:01

Why buy such a high maintenance BIN????????
Someone very kindly gave me one, I used it for a while then kindly gave it to someone else.
Hated it.

lahdeedah · 20/02/2006 16:01

oh but they look so nice.................

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:02

I always clean the inside bit that the bag goes in as you can take that out.
It's the outside of it that looks revolting. I wipe it down with anti bacterial stuff but you know what SS is like, it just has marks all over it.

I want it to look like new.

Also does anyone know if you get a lifetime gtee with them? Dh thinks so, I don't.

The top of the pedal came off last week.

Beetroot · 20/02/2006 16:02

alliep30 · 20/02/2006 16:03

mine was a wedding present! never had a posh bin before, that's why it gets tlc!

Twiglett · 20/02/2006 16:04

take the lid off and stick it in the sink ... fill with soapy water

or wipe with a baby wipe

the rest doesn't get dirty cos we use bin bags

alliep30 · 20/02/2006 16:04

care of anthea turner
BABY LOTION FOR STAINLESS STEEL!

Lacrimosa · 20/02/2006 16:04

Its the only bin my dogs cant work out how tyo open I use some olive oil on a bit of kitchen roll to go over it once its clean and it helps it stay clean x

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:05

I hate the bloody thing.

Stainless Steel appliances should come with a warning

"CRAP TO CLEAN"

What I'd give for a pound shop plastic swing bin.

scatterbrain · 20/02/2006 16:06

Think they have 10 yr guarantee !! BUT - I have a touch top one and broke it last week - sent an email to Brabantia asking if I could buy new lid and they fabulously sent me one back saying that they take customer service v seriously and are posting me a new lid free of charge ! I was stunned !

So - email them !!

Cleaning wise - mine is shiny chrome and I clean outside with damp cloth - then polish with micro-fibre - comes up fab !

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:07

It's a 30L bin.

I'd be lucky if it fit in the bath let alone the sink!

I could power wash it. Hmmm.

Baby lotion, lol.

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:08

you may mock, but the perfect housewife endorses it.. she's a tw*t though

geogteach · 20/02/2006 16:08

I've been going to post this question for ages - now someone else has done it i'll have to act on the advice

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:10

Well if it cleans stainless steal, I won't be using it on my skin anymore!

Do you think Anthea cleans her brabantia with baby lotion?

OP posts:
Mascaraohara · 20/02/2006 16:10

I use my e-cloth for the outside. Comes up lovely.

Would never by a nother though... break so easily and are a bag of sh*te to clean. Gave up trying to clean the inside as it's deeper than my arms are long! Luckily has hole in the bottom so get the hose in it in summer!

scatterbrain · 20/02/2006 16:10

Mine's a 30l too -I very occassionally pour a kettle full of hot water into the inner and add a capful of Zoflora - swish it round and that's it lot I'm afraid !! Only do this in summer so it can dry outside !

Wouldn't recommend dishwashing lid - my friend's melted in there ! I wash mine in the sink with hot water and washing up liquid.

Twiglett · 20/02/2006 16:10

my brabantia is called platinum .. which means the base is dark grey and the only shiny bit is on the lid

far more sensible I think
