How do you clean the ruddy things?

Ours looks absolutely disgusting.

she cleaned an appliance with it last night.. i doubt she does any of it though.. bet she's got a bloody cleaner

scatterbrain · 20/02/2006 16:11

Haven't got email address on me - but I just googled Brabantia, and clicked on the contact us thing - got a reply in 6 hours !

scatterbrain · 20/02/2006 16:12

Twiglett - my bin is nameless ! Does that make me a bad bin-mummy ?

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:13

I suppose it would smell nice after.

I'm going to email them first before cleaning it just in case they're feeling generous and want to give me a nice new one.

Baby lotion works! although i have a stainless steel cleaner i polish it with.
Take the middle out and hose it down in the summer, leave bleach in it to make it smell nice.

Nbg - my pedal fell off too so think i shall email them also and see what they say! It's about 3 years old though and have no proof of purchase!

Hattie05 · 20/02/2006 16:18

oil not lotion!

CountessDracula · 20/02/2006 16:20

ecloth

Piffle · 20/02/2006 16:20

e cloth wipe down with damp cloth then lint free e cloth tp polish
Just use mr muscle lemon to do inside every time I empty it, wipe it out
The lid gets a good warm water wash down and polish.

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:20

Just emailed!

Mine is about 3 years old too Hattie. I've just laid it on a bit thick so we'll see what happens.

I've ogt a 50l one - but I couldn't possibly divulge how i clean it

NatalieJane · 20/02/2006 16:22

I have a Brabantia touch top bin, and SS apliances, I use Mr Muscles Window Cleaner (the green one) it must be that one, none of the other window cleaners work, but just spray it on (any SS) and then wipe off with a clean dry kitchen towel. Also I use it for telly screens, shiney tiles, brass effect fire, mirrors - any shiney surface really, except windows, it doesn't work on windows....

Blandmum · 20/02/2006 16:23

I called mine 'You useless piece of crap'

Got rid of it , when it broke and now have a plain. plastic swing tip bin, which is a doddle to use and keep clean.

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:23

Ok ok ok

Iota, perleeese divulge your secrets!

What on earth is an ecloth?

Sounds like a dream bin MB.

I want one of them.

In fact, if Brabantia don't come up trumps I'm off to pound land.

Please all you brabantia owners, tell me if you only have one bag of rubbish a week, does the bin smell by day 5? Or is it so wonderful that it doesn't smell?

iota · 20/02/2006 16:27

what do you put in your bin that smells?

or is that a personal qu?

Th eworst thing that goes in mine is stale catfood [bleugh] and I put that in a used carrier bag before chucking it in the bin

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:27

No it stinks.

Bad.

Hattie05 · 20/02/2006 16:29

Caligua i empty mine practically every day if not every two days!

Nbg - i just emailed them too. What did you say? I felt silly .
I told them how much i loved their bin (thought i'd butter them up) and what a shame it is that the pedal had broken, was there anyway they may be able to help? .

Perhaps they'll send a handsome Brabantia man round to inspect my bin

crazydazy · 20/02/2006 16:30

Nbg -I have one of these too and I like mine to look all lovely and it seems to get dirty very easily too, mine is one of the posh push lids that springs up nah nah nah

You have all inspired me to clean mine now!!!

Caligula · 20/02/2006 16:32

Oh thank you thank you. I've been wondering whether to buy one. I've only got a tiny kitchen bin which I empty every day, because I only have one big black bag a week. I found with my old bin that after about 4 days, particularly in summer, it just whiffed. But I thought Brabantia bins might have mystical air-tight powers of smell retention. Now I know they haven't, I don't feel I'm missing out by not having one.

crazydazy · 20/02/2006 16:37

Mine doesn't smell at all which is why I like it so much, it just seems to get dirty easily. Have had countless bins and this one is the only one that doesn't whiff.

Caligula · 20/02/2006 16:38

Which model is it crazydazy?

Nbg · 20/02/2006 16:38

Show off CD

Hattie,
I just fed them a load of crap. "The reson I bought one was because I thought they were hard wearing and would last" "I'm really disappointed" "I read somewhere that they have a 10 year gtee" "My bin is only 3 years old but am sure I don't have the reciept" blah blah.

OP posts:
alliep30 · 20/02/2006 16:41

i hate the expensive bin bags

crazydazy · 20/02/2006 16:42

Caligula - its the 50 litre spring lid one, its very big and really only have to change the bag twice a week and when you take the bag out its totally full.

I used to buy the bags especially made for the Brabantia bins, the white ones that tied and they had a slight fragrance to them but they were too expensive so soon stopped that lark.

Have resorted back to Morrisons heavy duty ones at 99p for 10.
