Who's been called a troll at some point?

Just wondering as many people I see claim to have been, is it that widespread?

Yes, once, when I posted about my son visiting his friend after school, and friends family had all gone to dinner with grandma and left my son and their son home alone with nothing to eat, and then expected my son to stay and "babysit" their son (both children were 8 1/2) until they got home, as he was not allowed to be home on his own, as he was scared. Confused

Luckily I had posted under my usual name !

Ilythia · 15/08/2011 20:48

God yes dee, I remember that. I got caught in a bit of it but nowhere near as bad as you and shabs(was it shabs?) did.

Troll hunting logic

  • If you defend a possible troll you are also a troll.
  • If you had a childhood that was a bit 'different' then you are probably a troll
  • If you have drama happeneing in your life and namechange so as not to out yourself, you are probably a troll.
cornsilx · 15/08/2011 20:50

yes - boxroom troll. Was pissed off at the time

JacksonPollocks · 15/08/2011 20:51

Ilythia, more rules:

  • if you change any details to protect privacy (e.g. age/ location) you are a troll

-if you don't update when asked

-if you don't disclose personal and identifying info when asked

-if anyone else in the family uses you're account because weirdly you once left it logged on

-because you don't fit a sterotype

-because your posting style is analysed as being similar to xyz or not fitting a certain demographic

Nope, my life is too dull.

nenevomito · 15/08/2011 20:54

I was once accused of being a sock puppet when I backed up another poster, but never a troll (I don't think).

TheRealMBJ · 15/08/2011 20:54

I have been called both a troll and a journo, on the same thread while posting as this, my usual posting name. It wasn't that unbelievable a situation either, although I had posted in AIBU as I genuinely wanted to know whether IWBU.

I wasn't that upset as it wasn't that personal a situation, but had it been, I can see that it may have affected me quite badly. And it has put me off being open on here.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 15/08/2011 20:57

I wasn't accused, but everyone avoided both threads I namechanged for. I expect MN got lots of reports. Shame really, because at the time I actually needed some advice. Now I just shamelessly derail controversial threads with talk of bastard turkeys and killer swans.

mumofsussex · 15/08/2011 20:58

yes, a complete loon accused me of trolling a year or so ago. I'd been around for a few years and had met many MNers who could confirm I was a (relatively) normal human being but you know what it is like when these loons go off on one with their pitchforks! Hmm

nickschick · 15/08/2011 21:00

Me Blush 2 christmas' ago I used a different name and posted about a very sad thing that was really upsetting me Sad I was truly flamed and abused Sad in the end 'any fucker' was my hero and she saved me.

MigratingCoconuts · 15/08/2011 21:01

No, I am far too believeable honest

HopeEternal · 15/08/2011 21:04

God damn it, now I want a kitten. Too cute pinot

TheRealMBJ · 15/08/2011 21:05

This is why I am so against troll hunting. It can really hurt innocent posters who need help or support. I think that if you haven't had a taste of it by having been on the receiving end it can be difficult to empathise with the damage it may do and appreciate that if your goodwill had been abused by a troll you would be more sympathetic to the hunters but still...

Best stick to MN posting rules.

PamBeesly · 15/08/2011 21:05

Me....for nothing other than not agreeing with a group of bullies, tosh to them, it wasn't on mumsent, you chaps a fine bunch

Pinot, i cannot believe how big they have got!

I am still vaguely Envy that cute kittens have not landed in my garden but wouldn't trade my 16 year old sagging cloth cat for anything in the world!!
She wouldn't put up with it...she still hasn't forgiven me for inflicting children on her Grin

I was banned from some Saab geek website for some reciprocal trollery. I asked how many cloth nappies would fit in a certain model's glovebox. Amongst other random questions
