Tea Room the Twelfth

Come in, come in, to Tea Room the Twelfth! We now inhabit a rambling log cabin, surrounded by mysterious pine forests and mist-covered mountains (but also, strangely) easily accessible by regulars, new-comers and passing bishops, ferried in by Mellors driving the troika. All the usual rules apply and all are welcome!

I'm still good for Maple syrup and carbohydrate to pour it over thanks, adore the stuff and subsequently don;t have any in the house in RL. My favourite bit of staying with American relatives is breakfasts.

Boy went back to preschool today, the rising 4s group which starts with them eating their packed lunch. He loved it. didn't make anything ( never does) and enjoyed playing a farm game ( which I think was some kind of lotto with tractors and crops.
After preschool I route marched him to next village to visit the mobile library. It's been very cold, so a good brisk walk was a good thing.

Have seen a new house, its so new ist not finished yet. Am umming and ahhing about it. the garden is small, the house is big. The Moor rears up immediately behind it. There is large garage to take all our bikes. IF we get in at this stage we would be able to spec things like kitchen or under floor heating.

sympathy to RS. men can be difficult.

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 04/01/2010 19:40

Maple syrup on hot toasted waffles, with lots of whipped cream would be good, washed down with a large glass of bolly

CMOTdibbler · 04/01/2010 20:20

That sounds utterly wonderful Mary. And very wearing indeed DCMB.

On Saturday, we will be shopping for Dnieces 18th birthday present with her. I cannot work out how the little girl who visited us in our grotty flat has turned into an 18 year old

teafortwo · 04/01/2010 20:48

CMOT - how exciting!!! What do you think you will get her?

CMOTdibbler · 04/01/2010 20:52

She has asked her parents and grandparents for an aquamarine ring, and we are going to buy her a necklace or earrings (depending on what she likes) to match. We wanted to buy her something lasting

teafortwo · 04/01/2010 21:04

WOW - sounds like a whole lotta fun shopping to me!!!

I have no idea what an aqumarine ring is though [doesn't get out much anymore emotion]... link...???

RacingSnake · 04/01/2010 21:09

Thank you for many expressions of sympathy and wise words. After I have moaned I always wish I hadn't. It seems disloyal and unfair. When these negative episodes are over, M.Snake is absolutely fine, but at the time it all feels a bit hopeless. Anyway, holidays are over, so it will improve rapidly, now (I'm sure).

Wish I had thought of sending Catita the reindeer skin.

Catita, having been away from our cold climes for so long, have you remembered about basic keeping warm tricks? Watching TV in the evening wrapped in a duvet with a hot water bottle by your feet, wearing a pair of tights under your trousers, wearing a nice warm scarf to keep your neck warm, putting a blanket inside your bed, etc?

The weather here is probably much colder than it is in Mexico, but it is so beautiful! Went out for a walk tonight to look at the stars with Wriggle and M.Snake. No streetlights so the sight of the trees silhouetted against the Milky Way was breathtaking.

Is aquamarine a stone?

OP posts:
CMOTdibbler · 04/01/2010 21:13

Aquamarine is a pale greeny blue stone like this

UniS · 04/01/2010 21:39

That is rather a nice tastefull sort of stone. are you SURE she is 18? not 30?

was -5 here when DH got home at 6pm, I'd had the heating on for 30 mins already!I bundled boy into another jumper when he took his coat off on coming home. and kept my fleece on till I started cooking.
Rather miss my old out door thermometer , it was stuck out side a window in old house and had to be left as glued fast. I don;t KNOW how cold it is here beyond, nippy or flipping freezing.

CMOTdibbler · 04/01/2010 21:49

I was quite shocked when she said that was what she wanted tbh. She is however, remarkably nice and sensible, and apparently wanted something that would go with any future diamonds...

ThumbleBells · 04/01/2010 23:01

LOL at niece's foresight - bright girl! Nice stone, aquamarine.

It's finally sunny here today again after all the rain - but we have the ridiculous situation on the News here where stories of bushfires in W. Australia are immediately followed by stories of floods in N NSW. Global warming isn't really an appropriate name for it, but something's going on... all the snow in the N hemisphere plus all the bung weather down here, gah!

RS, don't ever feel guilty - here is the perfect place for sounding off when things aren't so great - we won't hold it against M. Serpent forever, don't worry!

UniS · 04/01/2010 23:04

arrghhh , I've just realised I have to get boy UP tomorrow morning for preschool and on wednesday and thursday AND friday... th eholiday is over isn;t it. BAng go my sleep till 9am mornings.

UniS · 04/01/2010 23:05

night night

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 04/01/2010 23:32

Night night from me too.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

mistlethrush · 05/01/2010 09:51

Sleep 'till 9!!!!!! mistlechick has NEVER slept until 9 and its nearly always me that ends up getting up...

Snowing quite heavily here - have delivered boy to school, where the 3 reception classes have been merged and the room is in darkness and Monsters Inc film just starting when we arrived - might pick him up at lunch time and take some work home with me to ensure that we actually get there... Worst case scenario we can both walk home from his school (have wellies, can ramble...). Spent yesterday in the office being amused by the awful driving of people trying to get up the short, quiet hill near the office in their cars (if you start to slip, apparently the thing to do is to put your foot down on the accelerator hard so that you make a screechy noise and get the wheels properly spinning so that you start going backwards....)

Trying to straighten the chaos of my office at work that a week away with Bronchitis followed by a week away at Inquiry resulted in - got about 1/3 of the way down through it yesterday!!!! Anyone got a shovel?

Red sage tea with honey and lemon and cinamon danish pastries anyone?

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 05/01/2010 09:58

I'll take the honey and lemon (sans sage) and danish pastry. Many thanks, Mistle! I think my feet have thawed now, after the walk to school ....

amberlight · 05/01/2010 15:26

Waiting for the snow here. It's about half hour away, according to Twitter (who needs weather forecasters...!).

Danish sounds lovely, though did manage no less than three biscuits this morning which isn't a very good start to my New Year fitness plan.

RacingSnake · 05/01/2010 15:31

Weather warning here for snow, so have been out stocking up on essentials such as DVDs, crisps and red wine (while still keeping my fingers very crossed that it won't happen - the break from comfortable routine has been far too long as it is!)

Does anyone else think that it is possibly the location of the tea room which is causing the problem - RL attempting to imitate MN? I feel it would be perfectly possible to step out of ChateauRacing today and find a couple of bishops on the doorstep making snow angels with the NMBs.

OP posts:
CMOTdibbler · 05/01/2010 15:37

We have had 5cm since 10am, and it is still snowing lots.

DH picked DS up at lunchtime as he had the car out and didn't want to risk moving it later, so we have been out making snow bishops and angels. DS insisted on giving his snowman boobies 'like mummies'

amberlight · 05/01/2010 15:59

RS, that sounds too much like real life for me, finding a couple of Bishops milling about in the vicinity! Though making snow angels out of the NMBs sounds a bit cruel - they'll get cold, poor little things!

CMOT, re the snowman!

RacingSnake · 05/01/2010 17:54

I just wrote something which has totally vanished! Suppressed by bishops?

OP posts:
amberlight · 05/01/2010 18:18

Could be or it might have disappeared into the snow...

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 05/01/2010 19:15

New Year fitness plans? I suppose I ought to have one of those.

Only a couple of flakes of snow here so far. Have very mixed feelings about the threat/promise of being snowed in tomorrow. But it would be good to make a snowman, with or without !

A warming hot toddy, anyone?

Catitainahatita · 05/01/2010 19:39

Wow, I have just been looking at some photos of what it is like in the UK at the mo. You are up to your eyeballs in snow.

There's not much better weather here, although there is no snow likely, just the prospect of frost overnight tomorrow. Thanks for the top keeping warm tips, Racing. Unfortunately all have been employed for sometime, as I generally always suffer from the cold weather and even when it isn't actually that cold, I often go about compalaining. I'm currently doing my impression of the Michelin man with my three jumpers, leggings, jeans, big winter coat and fleecy hat. Duvets don't exist here, but I do have a big woolly blanket and a hotwater bottle.

It's the bloody bfing that's a nightmare. Me and Gatita are in so many clothes, getting nipple to mouth is quite an achievement.
