Tea Room the Twelfth

Come in, come in, to Tea Room the Twelfth! We now inhabit a rambling log cabin, surrounded by mysterious pine forests and mist-covered mountains (but also, strangely) easily accessible by regulars, new-comers and passing bishops, ferried in by Mellors driving the troika. All the usual rules apply and all are welcome!

Ta taaaa!

Tea, speaking of international post, have you seen anything of two parcels which should be winging crawling in your direction? Have got something for another one, but not sure whether to send it off into the unknown.

Everyone - got any good emergency remedies for coughs? DH coughed for at least an hour in bed last night. Then Wriggle woke up and he stopped completely and went to sleep. He doesn't like cough medicine, says it makes him feel funny.

heh heh - yes, I have a good recipe for it.
Take one onion, cut it in half, lay both on a dish cut side up. Place a tablespoon of brown sugar on each cut half and leave for a few hours. The result = syrup of onions. Very good for sore throats and coughs.
Or you could try Sambucol - made from elderberries - very nice.

Mary - hope let-downy-bloke does make up for it somehow but things won't ever be quite the same again, will they

amberlight · 29/01/2010 12:31

RS, you're always missed when you're not here. So's everyone else that isn't here, too.

Coughs - I use local honey (best for natural immune system) with a dash of lemon, in warm water.

amberlight · 29/01/2010 12:32

PS POST COUNT ALERT

Ladies, you may notice that we're fast approaching the magic 1000 post count again. Do we have a cunning plan for where we go next, and what it will be called?

RacingSnake · 29/01/2010 12:38

Can we go somewhere where spring will happen?

Will any of these things actually stop an endless coughing fit, or are they more general tonics?

How about a sort of summer house in the gardens of a stately home ? Glazed doors, opening onto woodland with lots of snowdrops, crocuses and bluebells. We could keep the woodburning stove for now, and get the sofas out again with snuggly blankets if it turns chilly ?

Really hot water will stop endless coughing - a flask of hot lemon and honey by the bed will soothe a tickly cough and settle things down nicely

amberlight · 29/01/2010 12:44

Soothes the throat, which helps. A spoon of pure honey can help sometimes, too. And antiinflammatories sometimes help (always read the label etc etc)

RacingSnake · 29/01/2010 14:51

Yes, yes, yes! Can we (very twee) have a bird box with a comera inside, a la Spring Watch?

Has anyone every been to Wilton House? Can we have an amazing woodland adventure playground like that to keep Wriggle, DaisyBoy, Boy, MistleChick and Milk occupied. I'm sure the others will be too grown up. Although the Fine Lad might be persuaded to keep an eye on them from time to time.

Will we have to cater for the odd coach party?

Do you mean a couple of aspirins at bed time, Amber?

amberlight · 29/01/2010 15:02

Yup, that sort of thing. And love the idea about the new Tea Room.

MaryBS · 29/01/2010 15:27

Or perhaps her Majesty would let us have the use of Sandringham?

Have managed to get up and fetch the kids from school, but still feeling groggy...

mistlethrush · 29/01/2010 15:42

Not sure I want' 'stately home' featuring large in the headline though due to other threads that have that in the title and this one being a significantly different sort of place... (just don't want the two confused as they are completely different, not got anything against other thread, and, indeed have never visited....)

I might not be on until Monday - rehearsals over the weekend...

Mistlechick's looking forward to seeing granny and grandad. It will be interesting to see how he behaves since he was so awful when mil visited. I think that he will probably be better behaved than normal! (My father is somewhat potentially scary!!)

Amber - glad your foot doesn't need plastering. Hope you've recovered somewhat from other hospital visit now.

Mary - hope you're feeling a bit better in yourself. Glad overtures are being made (if that's beneficial to you) but it still won't make up for it will it. You have my email address too - but I won't be checking it until Mon, so if you want to have a rant just to get it out of your system, but don't want a response, please feel free!!!! (I know that sounds odd, but sometimes it is helpful to unload even when you know you won't actually get a response - I find that the dog is particularly helpful at times!)

I fancy somewhere with a woodland so that we can look forward to the bluebells, but also have a snowdrop walk, then crocuses cominb up in the lawn, and minidaffs in some tubs by the door to encourage people in. Oh, and of course, a conservatory, opening onto a nice little sheltered terrace in a walled-garden so we can make the most of the spring sunshine (not much to ask!)

MaryBS · 29/01/2010 16:54

Oo, I forgot about the stately homes threads - no, we don't want anything like that!

Thanks again to everyone who, who are being absolutely lovely, it does help!

MaryBS · 29/01/2010 16:54

oops, the first "who" should be "here". Still tripping over my words a bit!

teafortwo · 29/01/2010 18:32

Hello all,

MT - Nothing life changing just another clash with horridmum - who, if you remember, was actually a friend of mine who has gradually let me down more and more!

We had lunch with English friends today - they speak with regional accents, drink tea, have English telly and Early Learning centre toys...

When I exited onto a Parisian street my head did a little spin as I had forgotten what country I was in!!!

RS - No news on parcels, when (being positive)we do get them I promise to dance and sing and e-mail you immediately!!! It is really bad luck that they are taking so long... AGAIN!!! I am really confused as to why they aren't getting to us.

I am VERY glad your internet is working again!

Catitainahatita · 29/01/2010 18:39

I'm confused... have we moved yet??

UniS · 29/01/2010 19:40

NOt moved yet.. unless people have shfted toa different bit of MN as well to the spring ime summer house. Maybe its an orangery, so big windows to look out of but nice an cozy with a carbon neutral boiler feeding an under floor heating system...

House- went to look today. nice enough house but vendor wants toooo much for it. Not much character but a very attractive outlook.
DH going to look tomorrow.

Toffee on the table if anyone wants to clench their jaws together. today's making things session with boy. He also decorated a box to put said toffee in as some of it is to be a B-day pressie for BiL.

amberlight · 29/01/2010 21:16

No, we're definitely still here for another 30 posts or so...
OK, so not a stately home. More of a spring woodland retreat?
Glass of red, anyone?

CMOTdibbler · 29/01/2010 21:22

Not Horridmum again Tea ?

An orangery sounds perfect.

Uvverly toffee UniS. Good for exercising the jaw.

Snacks at blood donors have improved since I last gave whole blood. I got interrogated about my Kindle by several people who liked the totally one handed reading ability

teafortwo · 29/01/2010 22:12

MT -

Let's just say I am no longer class rep(constant hassles from horridmum were really upsetting me) and horridmum's dd has now said repeatedly "tu n'est pas mon compine" (sp?) to Milk who is understandably very upset because she considered her to be one of her top top friends!

According to another child (who just said it - no questions from parents - not my or her Mum's style at all at all at all!!!) horidmum told her dd to say that to Milk and her as well (on the side the other girl lives in the market place - so I am more sure that I really think this is a 'being a snob' thing.)!!!

I was quite taken by horridMum and her dd to begin with - funny how they seemed so earthy and good but have let me down by being actually terribly shallow (I know it really is not the dds fault and maybe not the Mum's either but I have to protect Milk and myself) .

Actually I was feeling crap about it last night but after a lovely morning with other friends and a glass of wine with DH tonight I am starting to shrug and pout about the whole subject!

teafortwo · 29/01/2010 22:15

The one glass of wine accounts for the... ttyyyping...

[such a light weight in rl emotion]

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 29/01/2010 22:56

I missed the last local blood doning session but they are coming to my workplace soon. I must go. They need me. I wonder whether the snacks will be as good?

Tea - You are well rid of being class rep, je crois. That woman sounds like une cauchemar.

UniS - Do you think you might go for the house if you can haggle the price down?

I do like the suggestion that our new abode should have a woodland walk. Could we please have lots of hellebores amongst the snowdrops? And only proper English bluebells.

Friday night Bolly, anyone?

amberlight · 30/01/2010 07:58

Splendid bolly last night - thanks!

Primroses, too. Got to be primroses. And crocuses (crocii??)

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 30/01/2010 12:52

Oh yes, primroses and those candelabra primrose thingies . But Mellors will be in his element, surely. He is, ahem, very much the outdoors type and rather fond, I hear, of al fresco exercise. I think he has suffered from being cooped up in here, unable to zoom around on his ride-on lawnmower.

I'm having scrambled eggs with smoked salmon for brunch. There's plenty to share. Do tuck in.
