A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

cmot, thank goodness you've had a decent meeting after all that travelling! I think dh spent much of his life at that same airport when he lived on the East Coast.

MT - The hot water bottle and blanket and food/drink were much appreciated - many thanks!

Today, dh can come home! (well, allegedly - bet something changes that).

Better turn my attention to proofreading son's English essay. Hmm. Has the author conveyed a depth of personality in his descriptions of the characters? Er, no idea. What does a depth of personality look like??! I shall live in hope that the rest of the homework is about facts and figures

mistlethrush · 20/02/2009 08:31

Amber - that's why my A level english was not a great mark - whereas music and maths were fine! Never did get the hang of writing essays, although reports are fine!

Fingers crossed that we can tuck both you and MrAmber up on the sofa tonight

Cup of tea anyone?

Safe travelling CMot

When Dh was travelling every week (commuting to Rotterdam!) our drinks cupboard was looking very healthy! Its empty at the moment

UniS · 20/02/2009 08:50

Can I take a cuppa away with me.

OHHHHH maple syrup. may I.

HI Amber. urrgggh, essays, you V patient to proof read them for DS. Hope you can keep DH away from work related items for a bit. And find time to do something YOU like doing.

AT somepoint between now and sunday I have to
Do supermarket shop.
Make lunch for 25 peole coming to boys birthday part
DO boys party
tidy house for veiwing during party (party not at house)
Convert 6 pages of notes from last nights rehearsal into a lighting plan. With serious restrictions on kit and rigging positions.
Source a mirror ball for the show.
POST the letters I've been carrying around for days.
ARRRRHHH

And relax, going to walk to toddlers I think, need teh exercise.
MAybe I should get on with some of it rather than blethring on here....

mistlethrush · 20/02/2009 08:56

UniS - on line shop - it will take you 20mins, giving you an extra hour to do one of the other things...

amber32002 · 20/02/2009 09:20

UniS, I feel exhausted just reading that list!

Lunch for 25 people? You'd be finding me hiding in the food cupboard and refusing to come out.

Ooo, hospital really do want dh to get out by lunchtime. This is looking promising...

mistlethrush · 20/02/2009 09:57

They probably want to get rid of both of you Amber ! We'll get some soup on ready for when you both come back (Hurrah!)

amber32002 · 20/02/2009 10:06

MT, too true

Any chance of a nice spicy soup if I ask nicely, and maybe a lewd roll?

mistlethrush · 20/02/2009 12:37

Dh is amusing MJ this week - so, yes, lewd rolls are available again! Some of them even have sesame seeds on the end...

Parsnip, pumkin and paprika soup any good?

Hope you've got him home by now - or soon if not.

cmotdibbler · 20/02/2009 12:48

Great news Amber - my friend had the same problem of stopping her DH working after he had viral meningitis. They compromised that he could do work - but only when in bed. This balanced his need to be doing something with actually getting some rest

All stocked up, but managed to avoid going to Borders, and flight back was only filled with teenagers so much better than going out.

Our drink cupboard is embarassing as there is so much booze in it - we aren't big drinkers, so me picking up a litre of spirits every 6 weeks when doing proper duty free accumulates rather

Off to establish cleanliness and admire the spotless house. DH has even tidied my office !

daisy99divine · 20/02/2009 14:56

great news about Mr Amber, and try keeping him in bed with the laptop is a good idea!

CMOT glad you have tights and duty free, if that cupboard is full, send some G&T to Daisy Towers!

JM hope you are feeling good

UniS feeling exhausted by your list, but certainly order food on line and make the party food for 25 niblly finger food you can order!

RS hope WS is feeling better!

Mistle any news on second interview for DH?

we're all fine. Went ot Tate this mornign for fabulous arty free for all!! HAve come home with tat pieces of great art that DaisyBoy is rightly proud of! his was all his own work. Some of hte Dad's were getting right competitive!

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 20/02/2009 15:15

Daisy - Art at the Tate sounds great - is it every holiday? MiL is based in London and is demanding to take ds for a stay in the holidays sometime (- dh and I can't understand why, but are prepared to play along, although she'll have to promise not to bring him back early) so I might suggest that she takes him along to something like that - he would enjoy it!

No news yet on interviews... Dh was talking to someone he knew from a consultancy job a while ago and said friend is going to try to swing an interview for DH with the firm as they are interviewing next week. Day of interview will be interesting in terms of travel, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

daisy99divine · 20/02/2009 15:35

fingers crossed for DH
yes Tate does stuff all the time - as do all the big gallerys. They have art trolleys every weekend and stuff in half term and holidays

this was specifically for hte under 5s which is a big hit as you can imagine! it is really just stick and paste but in glorious victorian surroundings surrounded by master pieces and costing not a sausage! Look on their web site!

cmotdibbler · 20/02/2009 15:40

have a bottle of Bombay Sapphire Daisy. On close investigation we have 4 litres of gin

The art sounds fab

Good to hear that DH is networking for jobs MT

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 20/02/2009 16:04

Fingers crossed for Amber's DH!!

Feeling ok this morning. Not great yet, but ok. Have decided to take next week off work as well because I'm all right to walk around but my work is very physical and I don't feel well enough to go back. [proud of sensible decision emoticon] I'm usually the first to tough it out but am scared if this doesn't heal properly - then what would I do??? This wasn't so much fun that I want to do it again.

amber32002 · 20/02/2009 19:24

JMB, very sensible. Rest, relax (er, or the nearest equivalent you can get to that...)

Hooray! Mr Amber is home! After a five hour wait in reception because there are no people dispensing the going-home tablets (arrghh).

What a couple of weeks...

Pass me that bottle of virtual gin and a straw please...

UniS · 20/02/2009 19:40

Phew the jobs list got a bit smaller- the house viewing went away so don;t have to tidy up. Hurrah, my least favorite one gone.

I like supermarket shopping. SO long as I'm not in a rush its OK, even with Boy if hes in a good mood, and he was this afternoon. Most of lunch is remove from packet, put ion plate on table. pizzas & garlic bread need cooking at the hall. cheese sandwiches we shall make in morning. for his 3rd birthday party the food came to 33.33 , which is a nice number. Doesn't include cake which I bought earlier in week, but hey who's being fussy.
Now to tackle that lighting design?? maybe. in a little while. The mirror ball is sorted- one phone call.

Igor- may I have a banana milk shake please and an ominous crack of thunder if you'd be so good.

UniS · 20/02/2009 22:13

Banana milk very fine. I had forgoten its friday and thus you are all doing something more interesting than MN.
I'll turn teh lights out and bank up teh fire before I turn in. Night all.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 20/02/2009 23:08

Eek! I've only just got here. We've had a lovely half term but I am now utterly pooped.

thumbwitch · 21/02/2009 00:06

Evening MadBad and any other late nighters - we could have done with Igor this evening as we had 2 power cuts, one right in the middle of me getting DS's dinner ready, and the other right in the middle of Eastenders!

zazen · 21/02/2009 01:39
zazen · 21/02/2009 01:43

Peeks that is! Blimey! I'm more tired than I think.

Delighted MT that your lil one is re-hydrating : it's so scary when they're poorly isn't it?

[zzzzzzz]

amber32002 · 21/02/2009 14:52

It's spring! Well, surely it must be. Today it's 12 degrees outside and sunny, and I've just spent a very happy couple of hours doing some planting out of my pansies and snowdrops whilst hubby has been reclining in splendour and reading a good book.

If someone had told me any of this was possible a week ago, I wouldn't have believed them. What a contrast...

Think I might make a nice fruit cake to celebrate, and a decent cuppa. Any takers?

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 21/02/2009 17:04

Good morning all!
It's spring here too and day before yesterday my mum and I cleaned up my flowerbed (cut off all the dead stalks tha I meant to clear away at the end of Nov but then we got hit with feet of snow for two months ) and planted frost-hardy pansies and some lovely perennials. Although I must say that having planted frost hardy pansies was not meant as an invitation to Mother Nature to produce some more frost, as she has done the last few nights... she must have misinterpreted!!

Amber, I'm so glad your DH is home. How is he feeling and how are you today?

Catita, how's the thumb? (I feel like I keep asking - if I've missed your answer please forgive me, I still have moments when I'm not quite connecting all the dots.)

RS, how's WS? I'm soooo glad you managed to avoid hospital. Is she just drinking or is she eating again?

Hi Zazen, how are you? Glad we gave you a chuckle with the male-ear-soothing properties of teething tablets.

CMOT, are you home? Stocked up on tights etc?

DontCallMeBaby · 21/02/2009 18:08

Today I bring you: reasons to be cheerful about having one child and no more, number 273 - only one pit of a bedroom to tidy up.

I feel enormously accomplished now, and am cheerfully ignoring the fact that I have stashed DD's dressing up costumes in a wardrobe that she can't open by herself, a fact which is going to come back to bite me next time she has a friend over and I want to hide downstairs drinking tea.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 21/02/2009 19:49
