A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

I think it may be. I'm gonna crack open a bottle of the tea rooms finest real ale.

We survived the boys birthday party. Doing it as joint effort with another one child family was fantastic. Food was fine, kids enjoyed them selves, all behaved Ok most of the time. It was party hat central, as I was making balloon hats as people arrived and we had a craft activity of sticking shiny and tot onto cardboard crowns before lunch. " of the boys got in to competition over balloon hats and I refused to add more height once they were brushing against the ceiling.
I wish you could all have been there to join in.

Wasn't it a nice afternoon in the sun out the wind. I attacked my worm bin today and dug out lots of lovely crumbly compost. Boy and DH are going to re plant the balcony tubs if its dry tomorrow.
Glad you got out in your garden Jacksmama, nowt like a bit of fresh air and watching someone else working to make you feel better.
Last day of half term tomorrow. Any one got a TV guide and able to tell me if CBEEBIES is back on BBC at a sensible time on Tuesday? or is it still CBBC stuff.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 21/02/2009 21:44

Phew! Good to see you Unis. This solitary drinking can't be good.

Well done with the party. I do enjoy that feeling of relief when everyone's gone home, having had (fingers crossed) a rip-roaring time.

You're quite right about Amber and MrAmber. I'm sure we must have a bath chair in the stables - they are, after all, Stables of Requirement - and a companionable tour of the extensive grounds, pushed by Mellors and his lovely assistant Igor in the spring sunshine, would be very therapeutic, I think.

Cheers!

mistlethrush · 21/02/2009 22:23

I'm sure that Lady Grey would pull a very gentle carriage around the grounds.... Isn't there a dog cart in the stables?

Bombay saphire - sounds ideal!!! where's my straw?

DH has been dealing wih MJ during 1/2 term (!!!!) I think he's been having a growth spurt at the same time- he's had naps every day and has been eating for England -particularly this weekend (Friday he had breakfast with me, lunch (bread and cheese) tea (cake) a huge portion of bolognais and rice nooodles (adult portion sized) with pudding (large bowl of yoghurt, grapes, oats and cheerios....)

I put on his 4 yo jeams today and they're not too much too big for him - just a little bit too long, but not much.

Donk · 21/02/2009 22:32

Hi!
Fruitcake and tea - and carrots - badly needed by Donk.
My Father has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour...

Still he is 73. Not exactly a spring chicken.

mistlethrush · 21/02/2009 22:39

Passes large bag to Donk. Together with some and a gentle stroke of the ears...

Sorry to hear the news Donk. Difficult to say more really.

Donk · 21/02/2009 22:40

Ear stroking always makes the world seem a better place...

Donk · 21/02/2009 23:00

The worst thing is that since he lives in Australia, about all I can do is worry.

Anyway, off to curl up in my hay pile now.
Night night everyone.

mistlethrush · 21/02/2009 23:06
thumbwitch · 21/02/2009 23:23

Donk - sorry to hear that - can they operate? Tell me to bog off and mind my own if you'd rather not discuss.

Tis'nt funny at any age - my Dad is 75 and is just about to start radiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer - v. scary.
My niece had a brain tumour before her 2nd birthday - she was 1 3/4 when they found and removed it. So far she seems ok (coming up to 4)

amber32002 · 22/02/2009 07:17

Oh Donk - what a shock for you. I'd think a million thoughts must be racing about in your brain right now. What will they do, dare I ask? If it's rude to ask, please ignore me. Will keep him and all of you in my thoughts, and very willing to give it a mention on the prayer chain if that's your sort of thing?

A bath chair for us? Can it be one with a 500 cc engine and racing stripes please??

Racingsnake · 22/02/2009 08:24

Donk, sorry to hear your news. Do donkeys eat drop scones? I could decorate these with carrot tops ...

Is the tumour definitely malignant? There was a mother at school who had a non-malignant tumour removed and was fine. After having celebrated her last Christmas with her only in September, just in case.

I was wondering what Mellors was doing in the shed with a bath chair and a motobike engine ...

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 22/02/2009 13:07

Donk - Have only just caught up with your news. Am so sorry. Would carrots steeped in Bombay Sapphire possibly be of any consolation?

Amber - You are quite right. I envisage a bath chair which looks more like a motorcycle side car, with art deco styling and painted in British racing green. Mellors would look very dashing, I'm sure, in flying jacket and goggles.

Not sure what we can offer for Sunday lunch - carrot and coriander soup, perhaps?

Donk · 22/02/2009 17:33

Had lots of dropped scones today (DS's favourite breakfast) - they were yummy.

We don't yet know it the tumour is primary or secondary - its still very early days for all the tests. Australia is just so far away...

Thanks for all the ear rubs - they are much appreciated!

MBDT - I suspect that carrots in gin would just spoil both the carrots and the gin!

Catitainahatita · 22/02/2009 18:01

Sorry to hear your news Donk. I know being far away is very hard. My mum has been seriously ill for couple of years now (although she seesm to be finally making some progress). Not being there to do the little things (or even the big ones) makes you feel awful. When my Mum was really bad in hospital last year I would phone her mobile on Skype (surprisinglg cheap)a few times a day. When I saw her at Christmas, she said that those calls had been a godsend and loved them totally. Even when she couldn't hear me for DS screaming ....

Would chocolate covered carrots be acceptable? I shall leave a few just in case.

Catitainahatita · 22/02/2009 18:20

Have just seen the cake... (falling off chair noise)

I am afraid the one I left is a standard round cake with no lewd connotations. It is pretty delicious though, carrot cake bbing my personal favourite.

To make it just perfect I think I shall magic some Mexican hot chocolate (they invented it, it is the best you can have) into existance and leave some mini marshmallows (carrot shaped obviously) to be dipped in, should Donk be so inclined later.

Donk · 22/02/2009 19:22

That cake is truly frightening DCMB!
Cat - the hot chocolate is delicious and very comforting. Thankyou.
I'd better go and get on with my marking.

cmotdibbler · 22/02/2009 19:37

I'm so sorry to hear that Donk.

I have been away this weekend. We came back with the odd idea of taking the toddler we visited on holiday with us as she and DS get on so well and it would be fun (she has stayed on her own with us before and loved it). T'will be interesting being a two child family for a few days

DS is wearing a 3-4 rugby shirt and I was contemplating the fact that his trousers are getting a bit short. His birthday isn't till May

Racingsnake · 22/02/2009 20:02

Love the cake, DCMB! It fits in so well with the tea-room lewd rolls.

Tea, do you think Donk would like the bunny with the pancake on its head?

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 22/02/2009 20:09

That's right, where is tea???

RS, how's WS?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 22/02/2009 20:18

Mmm. Those pruneaux d'Agen are delicious.

Jacksmama - Good to see you. How's your fanjo? Seriously, I hope you are still resting and that everything is healing.

Would anyone like some champagne (although I notice that gin imbibed through a straw has been very popular recently)?

amber32002 · 22/02/2009 20:41

Oh go on then - just a glass...

mistlethrush · 22/02/2009 20:42

No, I don't think I'll have any alchohol tonight thanks. I've been feeling very woozy all day - and sick - diet has consisted only of a banana and baked potato. Can't face anything else. A friend who works in the health service was saying that there is a virus going round up here that has this sort of effect - they are even having to admit otherwise young, healthy people as they are living alone and too dizzy to look afer themselves. Not feeling that bad, but not been feeling like moving at all all day.

Happy evening - I'm not going to be here for much longer as looking at screen is not great...

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 22/02/2009 20:46

Sorry to hear you're feeling unwell, Mistlethrush. Get well soon.

Cheers, Amber!
