A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Tea and toast with honey sounds excellent to me. As far as we can tell, the problem will be stopping him from returning to the business and pretending that he's perfectly fine straight away. He'll need to rest lots, and resting is Not Something He Does. Even this morning he wanted to make some business calls!! (grr).

mistlethrush · 19/02/2009 10:22

Good to hear that he is feeling so well though Amber. At least that part must be such a relief.

How on earth are you going to restrict him from doing too much?

amber32002 · 19/02/2009 10:45

No idea at all
Might have to take him away for a few days just to stop him wanting to get into the business. Luckily (?) he can't drive for a while after this anyway, so that might slow him down a bit.

Now I have to try to deal with me, since I can feel the stress of the last ten days catching up with me.

mistlethrush · 19/02/2009 10:49

Can I move the wing chair in your direction, pass a cup of tea and a sticky bun , and tuck in a blanket?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 19/02/2009 10:59

Amber - I'm so glad that things are moving in the right direction for you. Do you run your business from home? I'm just wondering whether you'll need to put a padlock or iris recogntion scanner thingy on the door to keep dh away!

Yum, toast and honey.

Jacksmama - Just remember not to overdo it. . I'm very amused by the idea of JacksMama's Internet Emporium - Supplying Tights and Maple Syrup to the Discerning Lady Customer (By Personal Introduction Only).

Racingsnake - That sounds very encouraging!

Now who'd like another hot beverage? Although we're in celebratory mood, it's maybe a teensy bit early on this side of the Atlantic for the Bolly!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 19/02/2009 11:04

We have some soothing camomile tea, if anyone would prefer that. It's very relaxing. Then again, so is sitting on the sofa watching Mellors double-digging in the potager. He's obviously getting quite warm, I think I just got a glimpse of naked muscular torso.

amber32002 · 19/02/2009 11:27

Tea and sticky bun? Even better. Yes please.

Work from home? No, from two proper offices, and it can be done from absolutely anywhere with access to a building, the legal documentation and a telephone. I'll need a series of Cunning Plans

amber32002 · 19/02/2009 12:58

Amber, have you got a lavender wheat bag? Have you got any lavender essential oil? Do youhave the option to have a nice soothing bath? cos if so, I would prescribe a soothing hot bath, with the addition of 4 drops of lavender oil' to increase the relaxation, get some roman chamomile and some mandarin essential oils as well. You can also add these to the bath - 1 drop of roman chamomile and 8 drops mandarin.

That combination is super relaxing and de-stressing and you need to stay in it for half an hour minimum. This could be difficult with DC but if you get the chance!

Also, take rescue remedy to avoid your brain/body catching up on the shock/stress it has been suppressing while coping.

Hello everyone else!

daisy99divine · 19/02/2009 16:38

I have taken rescue remedy once only
It sent me completely loo loo!
glad JM, Amber DH and WS are a bit better

So glad to find that bit of maple cheesecake hidden on the side, it is yum

was fascinated by maple syrup collection in Vermont, the trees all have little reverse drips in them and we went to Ben and Jerry's factory. >sigh> that was a top holiday!

really daisy? why did you take it?
I admit I've never known it have that effect on anyone and I've used it on a whole class of hysterical women before now (worked really well!)

daisy99divine · 19/02/2009 17:11

when taking exams - hopeless!

also tried it with poor DaisyHound (he had epilepsy) didn't work with him, but then nothing did

why the room full of hysterical women? What had you done to them??

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 19/02/2009 17:20

I was teaching them! There were a couple who were very highly strung about the amount of work involved in a vocational degree (as mature students) and they managed to raise the hormonal/stress temperature of the entire room to fever pitch, so after an emotionally-charged lunchtime tutorial I trotted out and bought a spray-bottle of Emergency Recovery Plus (even better than rescue remedy) and sprayed them all after lunch, without telling them what it was. The effects were stunning! 3/4 of them went and bought their own bottles as a result (should have been on commission )

Catitainahatita · 19/02/2009 18:14

Afternoon/evening ladies:
I'm glad to hear the good news about Mr. Amber. I hope he'll be able to get home soon and get under Amber's feet enjoy the pleasures of domestic life. At least he will be able to wear what he wants.

Also nice to see Jacksmama back, athough the whole tights/maple syrup thing has lost me...

Thumbwitch, your classes sound great fun. They'll all were hugging each other and sobbing by the end of the course by the sounds of it.

mistlethrush · 19/02/2009 18:20

G&T anyone? I feel in need of something before I tackle the bath this evening...

JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 19/02/2009 18:45

Catita, how's your thumb???

I'd quite like some tea and toast please.

Jackbaby woke up at 6:30 am... sigh... but managed to get himself back to sleep and then we slept until 9 am. I decided I am going to take most of next week off work as well. I feel better but not well enough to go back to work. [proud of self for sensible decision emoticon]

DontCallMeBaby · 19/02/2009 19:38

Musical types, I have a question. DD has taken a fancy to a pink guitar (with 'cool shades') in ELC, and I'm considering it for her birthday. But it gets terrible reviews on their website, and seems to only play pre-set tunes. I found this one on Amazon, to me it looks like she could cope with it (and it would teach her to play Smoke On The Water, which would be hilarious) but the Hasbro site says 10+. Hm. And then I wonder if she would feel horrible cheated if we got her a small acoustic with a mind to having lessons at some point?

Am I about to initiate one of those 'I really wanted a Girls World but instead my dad chopped the head off a shop mannequin he found in a skip' stories? Or am I a very cunning mummy about to propel her child on the road to musical stardom?

Disclaimer: chances of DD being musical actually quite slight, DH was a choirboy when fairly small, but has shown no musical ability since; I have cloth ears and used to mime in recorder lessons.

amber32002 · 19/02/2009 20:27
mistlethrush · 19/02/2009 20:51

I would definitely say that the Amazon one looks much better than the ELC one - don't think that the buttons on the elc one are remotely helpful.

Amber - perhaps its the fact that you've been operating on overdrive for the last few days - now that you know that everything's going to be OK, you've suddenly discovered that your battery is flat... ??

DontCallMeBaby · 19/02/2009 22:47

I have consulted with my music teacher friend and she says definitely not small acoustic (has pointed out that someone would have to tune it, uh-oh). I have sent DH an email about it, he is only in the next room but I can't face explaining it all, as I have a toothache.

Amber - release of stress, I reckon. I am always absolutely knocked senseless the minute things start to go right again when they've been bad.

cmotdibbler · 20/02/2009 00:20

On my way home now, so admiring the 70's chic of Dulles airport. A successful week. As in, the meetings went well, people loved my new product, and I didn't murder my bosses boss.

Back home in the morning, so normal time zone will be resumed.

thumbwitch · 20/02/2009 00:59

Amber - if lavender a no no (I do understand) then maybe just the mandarin and toman chamomile. Rose is lovely (b** expensive) and good for hormone balancing and calming too but less useful in reducing stress. It does go well with the previous 2 oils though, so you could use 1 drop of that as well as the other 2.

CMOTD - all stocked up on tights then?
