A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Oh no CMOT why would it exclude you? There are Quaker Humanists as well as more traditional Christocentric ones. We even have some (whispers) non-theist Quakers... so surely you can be ecumenical with them?

cmotdibbler · 04/02/2009 12:41

It was really that I couldn't remember the precise definition of ecumenical. I have to say that the only christian group I have ever thought of joining were the Quakers.

So, Justa tells us that you met in -gasp- real life ? It's my local MN meetup on Friday where we all try to use RL names for, ooh, 30 seconds of so before reverting to MN names

Donk · 04/02/2009 12:46

CMOT I know - it was quite scary meeting a REAL person. For all I know the rest of MN are just random events in a strange computer somewhere...
I am busy with things Quakerly this Friday evening or I might ask where you meet!

Not that Justabout was scary (disclaimer). She was very nice in RL.

Awwww Justabout - now you have let the donkey out of the bag... its so much fun when people turn up expecting a human being.

I do like carrots.

cmotdibbler · 04/02/2009 12:49

Ah, far, far from you Are you a physicist ? Have been reading your terrible jokes and may be forced to post some

Donk · 04/02/2009 12:49

I have to say that I think the local Quakers are very tolerant - they have never once tried to put the donkey out of meeting...

Donk · 04/02/2009 12:50

Rumour has it that I may be a physics teacher in an alternate reality

boccadellaverita · 04/02/2009 12:51

Oh, isn't this lovely?

Good to see you, Donk. This is an equal opportunities, all are welcome kind of cafe but it just so happens that sundry Bishops, rabbis, imans, chairs of Methodist circuits and the dean of the cathedral dropped in the other day for an ecumenical cream tea and seem never to have left (although a few seem to have met with unfortunate accidents as we moved from one tea room to another).

MT - Great that the CV is making an impression. All fingers and toes now crossed.

So, the kettle's on for tea and coffee. Would anyone like some soup for lunch? Today we have chicken and sweetcorn or carrot and sweet potato.

Donk · 04/02/2009 12:54

EEEE-AAAAWWW!
(Northern donkey - so no 'H's)

mistlethrush · 04/02/2009 12:57

Carrot and sweet potato for me please - unless I can have chicken free sweetcorn... (in which case I might have a bit of both).

Not managing to do much work today. Don't really feel like it

Donk - what geographical location did you meet as I know I'm in the same county as Justabout... and I might be able to meet up at some stage. I don't think either of you came to the Roundhay park meet-up in the summer did you?

cmotdibbler · 04/02/2009 12:58

I'm a medical physicist in industry

Ooh, chicken and sweetcorn plese - my favourite soup.

I have made strange brazilian cheesy bread today - tis called Chebe. No lewd shapes in deference to our esteemed visitors

Donk · 04/02/2009 13:00

The thistles in Roundhay Park are particularly succulent - but last summer I was afeared that (like Pooh) someone would sit on them and bend perfectly good ones!

Donk · 04/02/2009 13:02

Just carrot soup for me if there is any - although I will be just as happy with the carrots left over from making it.
They have more crunch.

(Complex multidemnsional physicists handshake)

Donk · 04/02/2009 13:03

Hooves are not really well designed for typing - I am making lots of mistakes today!

thumbwitch · 04/02/2009 13:09

lumme, if Richard Dawkins drops in, I'm off to the priesthole or I might be forced to tell him how bored I got of his book, the Selfish Gene. It might just be me, but I get things the first time they are explained, I don't need 4 different examples for the same point!

Actually this is an ishoo with DH as well - being Australian, he feels the need to tell me the same thing at least 3 different ways, just to make sure. He is learning...

Carrot soup - YUM! do donkeys like coriander in theirs?

boccadellaverita · 04/02/2009 13:12
thumbwitch · 04/02/2009 13:15

Cor, have just caught up on the tailend of TeaRoom Mark III - what's this about fighting witches?
I wasn't involved, Daisy, no - Mistlethrush, can you link it for me so I can see what was occurring? Might have to pile in and belatedly defend someone, depending on who it was!

cmotdibbler · 04/02/2009 13:17

As someone with a rather deficient social life, especially in the area of local mothers, it's great. There's always something to talk about thats not child related, you can see in advance what is on peoples minds and an intrestingly diverse group.

I love the thought of a tea room meetup, although it would be rather like seeing Tea Room the Movie iykwim

Donk · 04/02/2009 13:19

This donkey likes coriander - I can't speak for my fellow equidae

Donk · 04/02/2009 13:21

Eee-awww (rough translation - thankyou for the carrots)
(Exits stage left, braying quietly on her way back to housework)

thumbwitch · 04/02/2009 13:23

carrot and coriander soup it is then!
plus yet more banana and oat cookies. I am offering them up as a general ongoing remedy for "bowel problems" (anyone else think that Sex in the Potty Dulcoease ad is dreadful?) I have even added the recipe into the archives, having just been made aware of their existence

Fractals! (just wanted to add a random word to show willing on the physics front, although it might be more maths than physics...)

daisy99divine · 04/02/2009 13:24

Blimey
Soup please
I have never done meet ups because I would be much too afeared that you would rumble me think it was not so good in RL as on the net....

you are very brave CMOT and Donk and all others!

My physics is restricted to Melvin Bragg and R4, mind you, that's not so bad (wonders about a Melvin Brag pin up in the new tea room?) [flutters eyelashes]
