The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

Tee - if you are using cloth nappies, now would be a good time to switch to disposables for nighttime. Made a huge difference to my night-survival and general happiness! If you're using disposables, then now would be a good time to start changing him just prior to bed time, yes. :)

Just been to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - made MrThumb come with me. He didn't mind it too much, even asked questions afterwards which showed he had at least paid attention! (he's not a fan). It's very dark - not sure of the rating but I'm damn sure there shouldn't have been any under 4s in the cinema! There was one - predictably it got upset Hmm - couldn't tell if it was a boy or a girl, I thought girl but MrT saw them after and said boy. The "adult" he/she was with was about 17, MrT said - so we reckon it was older brother being saddled with babysitting and decided to go to the cinema anyway - but he's so going to be busted when the poor child has nightmares!Shock

Cloth nappies at night- can work, boosted to the max with microfibre clothes and with a waterproof wrap rather than a fleece one. weeble bum doesn't matter at night

Rejoice with me, I have filed my tax return. And HMRC owe me money. Hurrah. This is why I can't gift aid anything.

Celebratory cuppa for anybody? and maybe a virtual bacon butttie.

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 10:55

thumb, MrScout and I had that, too, when we went over Thanksgiving. And we saw it in an IMAX (my parents gave us the IMAX tickets and free babysitting as our anniversary present), so you can imagine how much bigger and scarier everything was for the smaller set.

Godric's Hollow was filmed very close to TheHouseofScout. Grin

Gathering all of BabyScout's books (lots have ended up in his nappy bag or n his toy box) and getting out his new ones and making space on his shelves for them (he has the bottom two shelves of one of our book shelves for his books so he knows which ones to pull out). Dilemna -- do I put away the Christmas themed ones or leave them out? He has loads about the Nativity, Twas the Night Before Christmas, Christmas songs and general secular Christmas (Rudolph, Frosty, etc). I'm all for having them out, but I'm quite sick of the tinned "Away in the Manager" in one of the Nativity books. And BabyScout received close to 20 new books for Christmas (not including all of the ones he received in the Christmas season). ACK!

UniS · 05/01/2011 11:02

put them ( christmas theme books) higher up and retrieve them again in November. That song WILL drive you round teh twist otherwise.

Boys bookshelf is looking OK currently, as although he was given lots of books we have no library books out at present. Boy has two shelves in his bedroom ( about 5 foot of books) and one shelf in living room (not quite 2 ft) .

practicallyimperfect · 05/01/2011 11:03

practicalbaby (I am trying it out for size) got loads of noisy books for christmas. I may be hiding them.

I was scared at Harry Potter!

UniS · 05/01/2011 11:05

would Pb work as a short name?

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 11:06

Thanks, UniS. I was thinking that, too, but was feeling mean for taking away the tinny music he loves (it's more the button pushing and flashing lights on some of them, I think). Seriously, the tinny and twinkly Away in the Manager was old before Christmas and he only received the book at the beginning of December. But he loved pushing the button through the star-shaped hole in the book so didn't have the heart to take it away before Christmas.

thumbwitch · 05/01/2011 11:07

I think Perfectbaby would work, wouldn't it? Grin

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 11:08

Don't mind his other noisy books (yet! Though some of them he's had for a bit) but the Away in the Manager was getting to the point of nails down a chalkboard....

Tee2072 · 05/01/2011 11:14

Already using nothing but disposables. Can't be bothered with reuseables. Just going to have to change him before I go to bed.

LowerCaseTee got several noisy toys for Christmas, including one from us that he loves that has no off switch. Bad planning on my part!

Isn't Pb the chemical name for lead?

Just survived meeting with new advocate!

Who'd like celebratory tea room cake and tea? With Hawaiian napkins?

thumbwitch · 05/01/2011 11:20

Pb is indeed the chemical symbol for lead.

Hurrah for surviving meeting with new advocate - did it go better than you thought it would?

Cake - is it pineapple upside down cake (given that we're in Hawaii)? Wink

MiniThumb just loves his drum kit - I don't mind when he plays on it but get a touch irate when MrT does (can't imagine why!)

amberlight · 05/01/2011 11:28

Oh yes, it definitely did. Very nice young lady who is keen to help me with the many, many organisations that I deal with and stop me getting myself into ridiculous amounts of trouble. Just what I need: someone to boss me about in a nice way.

asmallbunchofflowers · 05/01/2011 11:29

Did someone mention cake?

The joy of tinny musical books is that the batteries become exhausted (although sometimes not before the parents, ha!)

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 11:56

Yes please to celebratory cake.

YAY amber!

BabyScout got some noisy toys in the spring from friends who gave us his highchair, cot/bed, etc. They were well loved before us and the batteries are all now winding down, so the toys sound like discombobulated underwater voices. Really must find the batteries and screwdrivers....

asmallbunchofflowers · 05/01/2011 12:05

That, Scout, is why you are a good mummy. I generally did not bother to look for the screwdriver once we got to the Stingray voices!

Have you looked into the guiders' tea room recently? There's someone there looking for craft ideas and you're better at that than I am.

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 12:10

Bad mommy, really, they've sounded like an unwound string for nearly two months. They're slowly driving me out of my mind....

I haven't, but will look today.

Tee2072 · 05/01/2011 13:03

yawn

That's all really.

Anyone have any more cake? Preferably chocolate?

Also. Brrrrrr.

practicallyimperfect · 05/01/2011 13:28

I quietly get rid of the noisiest toys...that is bad!

I have survivied my teaching today, just got a free and then observing my student teacher last. Still not as exhausting as running around after Perfectbaby!

Hmm, my boss asked ot se me tomorrow though. Better tidy my classroom.

Jacksmama · 05/01/2011 14:44

How bad would it be if I canceled patients because I can't get up? Jackbaby is sleeping on my arm. :o
It's 6:45 am here.

Awww, JackBaby! Grin BabyScout so rarely does that that I relish other babies sleeping on/with their Moms.

amberlight · 05/01/2011 15:11

I have had my hospital pre-op tests Confused. They've taken a whole armful of blood and done all sorts of weird other things. I feel a bit wobbly but I survived!

Tee2072 · 05/01/2011 16:01

JM I postponed my whole morning recently because LowerCaseTee fell asleep on me. Grin. So go for it!

Tee2072 · 05/01/2011 16:02

Oops, stupid phone. Meant to also say glad you're ok Amber!

Jacksmama · 05/01/2011 17:01

Phew Amber, glad you feel ok-ish.

Off to Hawaii on Sat.
