The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

On our travels home today I saw the funniest road sign I've seen in ages:

Newcastle-
under-Lyme
Stone

HA!

Scout19075 · 23/01/2011 22:06

Asked MrScout but he doesn't know, so thought I'd ask here before I go to the shops and make a tit of myself: How hard is it to by rubbing alcohol in this country? Will they let me purchase more than one bottle? Is it behind the counter or in front of?

(Speaking of which, Tee, did you Mom bring you lots of lovely pain relief?)

Tee2072 · 24/01/2011 08:39

Scout, I don't know that I've ever seen rubbing alcohol in the shops here. But, then, I've never looked!

Two huge jars of acetaminophen, Scout! That's Paracetamol to the rest of you. I'm set for awhile!

And that sign made me laugh.

LCT is off to his full daycare day. MrTee is off to work. I have the whole flat to myself until 430 when I have to pick up LCT. I have a ton of work to do, but first I am drinking this cup of actually hot coffee!

amberlight · 24/01/2011 08:43

Techno, no heat or TV? Disaster! Is there hope of rescue?

Scout, not the foggiest clue re rubbing alcohol, alas. Love the sign Grin

CMOTdibbler · 24/01/2011 09:25

Surgical spirit is what you want to ask for Scout - behind the pharmacy counter.

Just been to GP to get an OT referral, which he cheerily agreed to, then physio at 11, then off to Helsinki. It may be a bit chilly there.

DS had a fabulous time at his chinese new year party yesterday, and dh bought tickets for another event which is being held at vvvvv posh 'gels' school. Will be interesting to have a nose

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 09:34

Morning all.

Telly is dead as the proverbial doornail, so no chance of watching choice dvds while tackling the mountain of ironing. ::deep gloom:: Heating is OK really but the room felt very cold last night.

Would anyone like some hot chocolate and a Chelsea bun?

::healthy breakfast options::

UniS · 24/01/2011 09:46

chelsea bun please. Love the police video. Oh what memories that brought back of cut off sweat shirts and trilby hats.

for you on a drear morning.
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 09:53

That was nice, UniS. I don't think I've heard it before (am a bit older than you, remember, so my cultural reference points aren't quite the same). It put me in mind of this .

::hands over the Chelsea bun::

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:00

I've decided that Monday morning dancing is the way forward. .

::throws wild shapes, although she is barely awake::

Tele dead? Repair, or replacement? We got one of the new fangled HD ones by a very good manufacturer at quite some cost and it's been Absolute Rubbish and has needed repair already. Takes 2 mins to decide to start. It was quicker on the old tube ones we had as children, and frankly the picture isn't that different. Hmm

Can mine be especially healthy chelsea buns and hot choc, please? Just back from the nurse who's examined my weight and blood pressure and wants to urge me to become superfit and ultrahealthy etc. Sounds like a good plan.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:08

Dunno, Amber. I've been assuming that if something has gone wrong with the electronics (it won't switch on - the light goes from green to red and then back to red again) it's probably not repairable ....

::Thinks of all the dead CD players which apparently cost as much to fix as they do to buy new::

.... but perhaps I should ask a TV repair person.

They are of course the very healthiest buns and hot chocolate. I have become far too plump and wobbly recently. Perhaps we could give each other moral support as we quite literally shape up?

::Sends several buns to Scout, who needs them::

MyrrhyBS · 24/01/2011 10:15

You could seek advice on AVFORUMS Amber, they're the fount of all knowledge when it comes to TVs.

Am in 2 minds whether to sit in the priest's hole or not. Am sort of wanting to be sociable but am not keeping up with the flow of conversation, and I worry sometimes I'm being rude when I don't reply to people's posts, particularly when they are struggling or sharing moments of great joy. Please reassure me I am not being offensive to you all, and I might sit in a quiet corner and listen.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:21

Myrrhy - Don't think you're being rude - I'm sure nobody thinks that of you. Things do move pretty fast here and I certainly don't manage to respond to every post. I try to respond whenever someone is clearly asking for a response IYSWIM but even then I unintentionally sometimes overlook a post or two if I've got a lot to catch up on. I think that's how it is for most people. By all means sit in the priest's hole if that's where you're most comfortable but don't feel that you have to.

Would you like a bun?

MyrrhyBS · 24/01/2011 10:23

Yes please a bun would be lovely :)

Scout19075 · 24/01/2011 10:25

Of course it's fine, Myrrhy!

Oh, Myrrhy, I waved at you on our way through your big town near me. We were the black car with very chatty BabyScout in the back. Wink

Thanks for the extra buns, Techno.

Am sorting out neices presents. Youngest neice is getting her new American Girl Historic Doll for her birthday (her sisters have one) so am deciding what outfits to get her. Looking at outfits for the older neices dolls.

Yay for the acetaminophen, Tee!!

Thanks for the tips, CMOT! I'm hoping to dye pasta for a pasta table and art projects so need probably two bottles.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:25

Chelsea bun Heaven

teafortwo · 24/01/2011 11:00

MyrrhyBS - Oh tell me about it. How many times have I gone "Hi everyone wouldn't it be funny to do stupid links to youtube."

Then I notice a string of posts that go:

"Had a really bad day - do you mind if I talk about it?"

"Crying because Unserp keeps poking me" Grin

"Do you think I am a bad Mummy because (always says something that I don't really understand is bad and sometimes it is something I do and think - good good - well done tea)?"

"I am head to toe in bandages because I fell off my dragon"

"Someone I care for has just died..." Sad

"My son/daughter/husband/friend did something completely bonkers - am I right to be in a panic/pissed off/completely uncaring about this?" Confused

"I love MB with such a paaaash I can't stop thinking about him. What shall I do???"

And I think Gaaaaaaaah - everyone is going to think I am sooooo sooo horribly heartless for not holding hands and have to do about twenty posts to show that I do love you all I just have a very very bad skim-reading habit.

I 'spose, at the end of the day, I could have worse habits - e.g. Milk bites her toe nails when she watched TV... See that actually is philosophy in the tearoom [high-brow emotion].

amberlight · 24/01/2011 11:01

Techno, your electronic 'starter motor' in the tele is on the blink if it's doing that. Can be repaired. I know this, because that's why ours is on the blink as well. And we had it repaired the once already.

Myrrh, half the time I've no clue what's going on, but that's entirely the fault of my brain.

One of my fellow Directors here has just had his first baby! (Well, his wife has...). So exciting!!!! Smile

Scout19075 · 24/01/2011 11:12

It's okay, Tea, I do it too.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 11:19

Sending virtual hugs and shoulder-pats to Amber. Have spoken to lovely neighbourhood TV repair man. He thinks the telly could be fixable so I am lugging it into the car and going there now. Phew! I thought the only place I'd be taking it was a skip. Of course, the moment of truth will be when he rings me and begins "I'm afraid I've got bad news".

::Waves to Tea and offers Chelsea bun::

amberlight · 24/01/2011 11:23

::waves at the Chelsea Bun and offers tea::

teafortwo · 24/01/2011 11:27

watched watches.

Techni - Chelsea bun heaven indeed!!! I like the big cake one! Nom, nom!!!

Scout - WOW - I am fainting at the prices of those dollies!!! If you think about it long enough it is odd the idea of spending so much money on an American Girl "resourceful Great Depression Doll"...Grin

I need to start getting fit again too Amb. My body is going bleeeeeuuuuuurrrrb as I walk down the street and really I want it to go aaaaasssccchhhhhiiiingggka which eating less chocolate and doing more excercise should sort out! Fancy doing a tearoom health challenge togther? Anyone else fancy joining in????
