The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

I was actually awake JM but trying to pretend that I wasn't. LCT, of course, slept to nearly 7. I really need a new brain. Feel free to rub it in. I am enjoying it vicariously!

thumb, is the Shred a lot of aerobics, i.e. bouncing around, or is it more stretches, sit ups, etc? I can't do aerobics but would love to shed some pounds!

Off to the shops today and then back to Operation Flat Tidy.

UniS · 11/01/2011 09:40

amberlight · 11/01/2011 10:50

Not allowed anything else in real life now so might as well have a tea room mint cream. Yes please.

UniS · 11/01/2011 10:52

ah, well in that case. Perhaps you would like a bacon buttie too? and some worry beads to fiddle with.

Job stuff done, really should get on with house work stuff and planning application. ...

amberlight · 11/01/2011 10:54

Cor yes!!

Planning application?

thumbwitch · 11/01/2011 11:38

The Shred = combination of jumping up and down and stretching (i.e. cardiovascular work and toning/muscle building). It's very similar to the circuit training I used to do years ago, so my bod is accustomed to the exercises, if not quite so fit to do them as it used to be. For me, it's more a case of the muscles remembering what they should do, than having to learn something new, so that helps. Does work really well though!

Ulp. Tomorrow morning at 7am, I will be getting a phonecall from some American radio station to do a recorded interview about the Book I co-edited earlier last year. It's very lovely that they want to help us publicise it, and they seem to be sympathetic types, but we (the other editor and me) are bricking it because we don't know what they're going to ask and I'm crap before 9am anyway. But - it was the only way to cover the 3 different time zones successfully - 3pm EST, 8pm GMT and 7am here. Bloody unfunny.

Amber - best of luck for today - I hope to read in the near future that you have put a deposit down on the super-duper Jag Grin. You WILL be fine.

Really must go to bed soon; but no doubt will still be here in an couple of hours Blush

UniS · 11/01/2011 12:25

Thumb- go to bed. you have to be up early remember....

Thinking of Amber. Fingers crossed for you.

Right, lunch. who would like some soup du jour and a lewd roll. We have bean soup, don't ask me what it is now, but its definitely been soup, and the rolls are rocket shaped or effeil tower shaped for our French contingent.

For afters I can offer you girl guide cookies- like girl scout cookies but with more actual scout. OR Smores, Mellors has a beach bonfire going and is loading up toasting forks as we speak.

Tee2072 · 11/01/2011 16:28

Thanks Thumb. It's the jumping up and down I can't do.

Lot's of good thoughts for Amber.

Ooh, Smores!

Hoping for an Amber update soon.

Wow, what a stormy night!! Raging waves and wind and rain all night. Calm and gorgeous now (it's around 7:30 am), looks like it's going to be sunny all day. Bliss bliss bliss!!!! Not sure what we're doing today but there are almost no waves so maybe we'll try to go whale-watching. DH thinks he just saw one out on the water from our balcony!!!

How lovely - being inside on a really stormy night!

UniS · 11/01/2011 18:51

Twas a dark and stormy night, and the captain said to the mate, spin us a yarn.
And the tale it went as follows ...

Catitainahatita · 11/01/2011 20:37

I have given up trying to catch up. It's too much. So I'll say hi to all newcomers and oldies (and youngies) alike.

My parents have finally gone back to blighty leaving behind two very excited children and lots of presents. (Mum was dishing them out on a one a day basis.... there is much complaint now this has stopped).

I gather Amber is being operated on, so I'm sending her a big nonthreatening hug and my best wishes. The same to anyone else who might need it.

And JM.... sounds fab. It's raining here, we have 5 degrees. Envy

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 11/01/2011 20:47

Evening all. It's quite rough and stormy here too, but no whales nearby (until Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect get here anyway).

I am feeling very grumpy, having sustained a serious wound to my finger because (a) I was stupid enough to ram down the rubbish in the bin with my hand and (b) someone even stupider had left tins in there instead of in the recycling. Ouch.

thumbwitch · 11/01/2011 21:33

ouchy, LaVie! That's nasty - hope you've washed it thoroughly :(

Well, I woke up even ahead of the alarm this morning and the radio interview seems to have gone well - I even managed to contribute sensibly (IMO anyway Wink) but then lost the connection. They seem happy enough anyway - emailed them to see if they needed to phone me back - and the truly amazing bit is that miniThumb didn't wake up until the call was over - hurrah!

Situation in Queensland is going to be dire today - am flicking between ABC2 (the equivalent of CBeebies) and the 24h News channel to see what's going on. So far 10 confirmed dead, at least 4 of which are children, and 78 people missing. Spare a thought and a prayer for them today please.

Donki · 11/01/2011 22:11

Thumb, I have been watching the news - and remembering the bushfires in Victoria nearly 2 years ago as well.

I have been "holding them in the light" (Quakerly version of prayers...)

Donki · 11/01/2011 22:13

I hope that Amber is OK - I have stocked up the priest hole with tea, blankets, hot chocolate, carrots, and a selection of Haynes manuals..... including one for the Space Shuttle!

thumbwitch · 11/01/2011 22:21

Thanks Donki, I think they're going to need it. Please can you consider the WA bushfire victims as well - typical Australian problems, floods on one side of the country, bushfires on the other - although it appeared on the news last night that they might have been started deliberately - anyone who does that deserves to be locked up and the key thrown away, if you ask me Angryx1000.

Tee2072 · 12/01/2011 07:57

Morning.

Thumb the news from around there is just horrible. I hope it all ends soon.

No word from Amber? I hope she's recovering well.

I have a screaming headache again, thanks to waking up at 5am, and now have to get dinner in the slow cooker, clean the bathrooms and tidy the spare room. Mum gets here in about 9 hours.

DutchOma · 12/01/2011 10:38

Got hese messages from Amber yesterday:- Apologies fpr putting them on the prayer board and not here, I thought Mary might have done it.

The message I got was: "Am ok...some pain... but cheerful...phew..love "

And " a month of recovery to go but so far so good"

amberlight · 12/01/2011 12:09

'ello! I am alive and at home being cared for very well by everyone. Brilliant surgeon and anaesthetist who risked high bp and other challenges. Looks like medical oops had caused situation, so that is fixed now we hope. Month of healing to be done internally but can do gentle things in a few days, Huge thanks to all of you for your kindness xxx

UniS · 12/01/2011 12:41

One gentle healing bowl of soup and a VERY lewd roll coming at you Amber, and anyone else who is peckish.

This morning I have achieved just 2 jobs from my list. But one of them was removing 3 full largeish bookcases from dining room ( ground floor) to attic room, making room for a spot of painting and decorating. Piano arrives next tuesday, would like to have painted ceiling and walls by then.

I'm finding that a way to stop my days drifting in a haze of reading and browseing is to have a to do list each day.

Oxeye- I'm not feeling bereft of boy yet. rather enjoying the peace and quiet. And teh chance to watch bits of movies over my lunch break. Job applications are coz I havn't earnt very much this year, and could do with boosting the holiday fund a bit. Or we will have another year of staycationing.

thumbwitch · 12/01/2011 14:00

Amber! Hurrah that you are recovering and hope that everyone looks after you very well while you are.

UniS - ah the blissful concept of drifting in a haze of reading etc. Envy

MiniThumb is getting more fractious daily - his "I can't do it, Mummy" is starting to grate and he is becoming less responsive to doing as he is asked (growing up)
