The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

Father Christmas brought me a Blackberry. I'm just trying it out just now. Love to all, I'll catch up on your news in a bit.

thumbwitch · 10/01/2011 05:47

New people! Hurrah! Welcome to Purpleknittingmum and to NorfolkNChance (great name, btw Grin!!)

LaVie - I gotcha, I'm pretty sure. And agree with JM.

JM - you are shameless in your gloating and I am all Envy and pah! to your Mauiness. Am very glad you are enjoying it though :)

Took miniThumb out to play this morning - he had a good time but by about 2:30 this afternoon he was starting to get a bit irritable, and his 4.6yo friend was also a bit worn ragged, so I brought miniT home, causing much wailing. However, within 10 mins he was fast asleep, justifying my belief that he was a tired little munchkin.

So - for our new inhabitants - I am in Australia so often post at silly odd hours, and have one DS who is just 3. Still ttc another but given my vast age (slightly less than LaVie and a touch more than Oxeye, if she ever returns) it's becoming increasingly unlikely.:( But I am in the right place to come to terms with that, should it be the eventual outcome.

thumbwitch · 10/01/2011 05:48

Hello Catita - how is sunny Mexico? (you weren't there when I posted, obviously hadn't refreshed my screen prior to typing)

amberlight · 10/01/2011 09:23

'Morning all!

Hello to Purpleknittingmum and NorfolkNChance (love the name!!)(had to think about it a bit...)

Hello person with shiny new name. I'll figure it out soon.

For our new inhabitants, I am Amber, an elderly* mum of a lovely 18 yr old ds, who lives in the central south who creates all sorts of chaos in an eccentric autism-spectrum way. Right now I am Confused and Biscuit but that may turn out to be perfectly normal for me so do ignore it. After tomorrow I hope to be Grin and Bear

wooo hooo. 1st day as a mum to a full ime school boy. And I have been offered a session of (paid) Meal Time Assistant work today at the school ( dinner lady in old money). So , my leisurely day of job application thing, sorting out house stuff and knitting ... has had to be compressed a bit.

On line job suitability test was odd. no idea how i've done. I'm only 1 third through. 2 more to do.

Purpleknitting mum, do you do other colours or just purple, its a good colour mind. Boy wants his blanket , that I have started and have 12 more years to complete, to be blues and purples.

Amber- sending you a packet of jammy dosgers to take your mind off stuff.BiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuitBiscuit .

Howdy Ladies.

Running like crazy today. Just sat down for the first time since leaving LCT at daycare. They are starting his transition to Fledging room today. sniff My baby isn't so much a baby any more.

Hi everyone I've not met yet.

Lunch and then back to the mountain of housework!

UniS · 10/01/2011 18:49

Hurrah, DH has noticed and commented on how much I got done today, and he remembered to ask how my first day at school went.

::unis shoves NMBs off the choc box of requirements, it is NOT a stage for Hula Hooping.::
Any one for a truffle?

Jacksmama · 10/01/2011 18:55

Sorry for gloating Blush

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 18:59

No worries, JM. It's fun enjoying a vicarious holiday in Maui.

Well done, UniS. SmallBloke never notices how little much I do.

Will be back later for a whinge. Save me some Bolly.

purpleknittingmum · 10/01/2011 19:53

Hello ladies! :) Hope you are all well!

I am determined to be a bit more organised so I have made up sandwiches for me and my daughter for tomorrow and in the morning peel spuds for tea!

I'll have a truffle UniS!! Are you knitting anything just now? I am using up bits of wool making fingerless mittens inbetween knitting a few hats. Some stuff is going to go to the Cats Protection League, then I am going to knit myself a pair of socks once I have learnt a new method to cast on

thumbwitch · 10/01/2011 20:17

Now LaVie - how are you going to change the names of your family? Technicolorgirl and Bloke?

JM - I was joking of course! I hoped the :) at the end of the line would have given that away so don't be Blush about it - you deserve a lovely holiday.

Am deeply unimpressed that MrT woke me at 6:30 this morning to ask where the VISA card was, as he needed to pay a speeding fine and today was the last day, and he's off to Sydney for the day. WTF he couldn't have remembered at sane hours yesterday I do NOT know. End result - I'm awake 2 hours ahead of time and will now be grumpy. Grrr. and Angry

oxeye · 10/01/2011 20:27

Hello all, old and new. My you lot post and list!! I can't catch it all
UniS my sister in arms yes. Oxboy starts big school tomorrow. We have hair cut and polished shoes and he has just asked if he is staying all day and for lunch vi had to suppress a sob and saying my poor baby you have to go every day for the next 14 years. It seems too ghastly.
Waves to all new and old. I am Oxeye with one boy aged 4.5

jm where were you in Dallas? I don't think i knew this fair lady. I lived there on and off for two years!
Unserpent how is Ap doing?
Just back from hol. Had great Christmas. Was rather I'll but not unbearably so

thumbwitch · 10/01/2011 20:34

Oxeye! You're back - how lovely. Glad you had a good Christmas, :( you were ill. So many people have been, it seems!

Serpent - missed the problems with AP - :( to hear that she's feeling worse. Is she eating all right? One problem that can crop up with older people is that they stop eating enough which depletes their nutrient stores, which in turn reduces their appetite and ability to digest food, which depletes their nutrient stores further and has various knock on effects, including confusion, forgetfulness and general decline. Would she take a multi-vit/min supplement? I have my Dad on one - it made a lot of difference to him. (Actually, he's on 3 - he takes multi vit/min, garlic and essential fatty acids, and Coenzyme Q10)

amberlight · 10/01/2011 20:42

I'm afraid I've had a bit of a totally raving bonkers afternoon. Went to the jag dealership and seem to have been test-driving their XKR-S supercar. Don't know how that happened, really. Beats sitting around feeling nervous. Turns out I know more about it than the salespeople (hands up all who aren't surprised by this...). An afternoon of fast car is the nearest to heaven I can imagine.

Jacksmama · 10/01/2011 20:51

I know thumb, but I really was gloating all over FB and I should stop. :)

thumbwitch · 10/01/2011 20:54

Was it fun to drive, Amber? did you put a down payment on one by accident? Grin

JM - Grin

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 10/01/2011 21:30

Did get AP to acupuncturist, who suggested brain tumour but thought it didn't totally fit the symptoms Shock and is trying to treat worst symptoms. Vitamin supplements could be a good idea - what is coenzyme 10?

thumbwitch · 10/01/2011 21:49

coenzyme Q10 is also sometimes known as ubiquinone, and has also been called vitamin Q. It's something that is required by the energy production cycle in our muscles - the mitochondria in muscle cells use it a lot. It's necessary for good muscle function, especially for the heart muscle. It's also depleted by statins, because CoQ10 and cholesterol share a common biochemical pathway and most of the available statins block this pathway before it splits to form either cholesterol or CoQ10. This is Not Helpful as reduction of available CoQ10 can affect heart function. The manufacturers of statins know this but they choose not to add CoQ10 into the formulae; like they choose not to add the liver-saving antidote to paracetamol into the paracetamol. there is more about it here
Your mum probably doesn't need it unless she is on statins though.

Donki · 10/01/2011 22:28

Sounds fun Amber!

Tea anyone?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 10/01/2011 22:31

::waves to everyone::

::claps Oxeye to her ever-more-ample (thank you Christmas) bosom::

::opens Bolly::

thumbwitch · 10/01/2011 22:36

oh don't, LaVie - I somehow managed to acquire an extra half-stone over Christmas without noticing! Was Shock when I stepped on the scales!! back to the Shred for me...

Jacksmama · 11/01/2011 05:18

I'm guessing no-one's awake so I'll have some lovely tropical something all by myself.

Cloudy, overcast and windy all day. Went to Lahaina today, the old capital of Hawaii. Lovely (although v. touristy). Bought a wonderful breezy dress and a GORGEOUS necklace pendant - a stylized bird-of-paradise flower in three colours of gold. My splash-out for the trip. Came home mid-afternoon because DH wanted to watch college football (the national championship) so JB and I had a blissful nap which a tropical storm raged outside. Parents went on sn excursion somewhere by themselves and just got back.

I really don't want to rub it in but I'm feeling sooo relaxed. After the lady few months I really need this.
