The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

So glad to hear from Amber!! You let people take cate of you, do you hear??? :)

BTW, I can't get to the FB TR on my iPhone or DH's iPad, only my own personal page. So have missed everyone's post on there. Someone please message me if there's anything important? Thank you!

Huge tropical storm here today. Gorgeous gorgeous day yesterday, JB woke up vvvv early (grrr) and asvi was lying there with him, I heard thecstorm arrive around 6 am our time. I think the plan is to go to the aquarium in Lahaina today - sounds like a good rainy day thing to do. And hit the adorable little shops, too. I got an early birthday president from my wonderful mum yesterday: a multicoloured strand of pearls, green, copper, deep yellow, white and pale pink. It's just wow!!!

Sorry, thumb, forgot to say keeping everyone in Oz in my prayers.

Amber, so glad you're recovering well and being well taken care of.

In between cleaning I have been tracking my mum's progress. Her flight from London is now 30 minutes late getting in. So frustrating!!

I do believe LCT is about to cut another tooth. Or he enjoys drooling. Hmm

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 12/01/2011 19:14

So glad to hear good news from Amber!

JM - You may be the only woman I know who owns more jewellery than I do and acquires it more rapidly than I do!

::fails at minimalism::

::decked out like a Christmas tree::

Tee - How long till your mum arrives? I suggest getting a pillowcase, stuffing all the tut in there and hiding it behind the sofa until she's gone. Wink

oxeye · 12/01/2011 19:32

Sorry hopeless at keeping up. Amber i missed your health saga but so glad op has gone well and big happy to accept ok hugs and another few haynes manuals to you
catita so glad your mum made it over for Xmas and clearly survived.!!
Thumb all Aussies are in my mind and thoughts today
weirdly following our school lunch a bigger better group is now gathering. Would be fun if you were part
loving idea of jm and laVie out baubling each other
ggood luck with junk control Tee
UniS you always strike me as a most accomplished "doer" amazed you fear you will float away. I have no chance!!

Jacksmama · 12/01/2011 19:36

LaVie - I'm a huge sucker for jewelry, but tend to be minimalist wearing it. I have my staples - wedding and engagement ring (which are TBH rather bling Blush), a small ring my mum gave me for my 18th birthday and which has rarely left my right hand since, and I'm pretty much always wearing the same stud earrings (v simple studs). My weakness are necklaces. I love love love them. If it wouldn't make anyone Envy in either the envy or sick sense, I'll post some pictures. Just want to mention in case anyone thinks I'm spending money like water, stuff is almost embarrassingly cheap here. You can really tell the U.S. economy has tanked here.

Does Hawaii still have stupidly high sales tax, JM? I remember back in the early 90s things being inexpensive there but sales tax being extreme.

Jacksmama · 12/01/2011 19:43

No, it's only 4%!

Scout19075 · 12/01/2011 19:58

Nice. Maybe it was high goods and low tax. That would make more sense.

Anyway, sounds like you're doing well, JM!

Scout19075 · 12/01/2011 20:05

YAY for Amber, well on her way to recovery.

YAY for Tee's Mom arriving soon but BOO for delayed flight.

Feeling Blush but still not 100% sure who LaVie is. Have a guess but not convinced I'm right.

UniS & oxeye, how is big school going?

thumb, been following news here, too.

BabyScout seems to have grown/gained weight again over night. If he doesn't walk soon (he takes lots of steps but loses confidence and therefore his balance) I'm going to have permanent backache. And you'd think all of this hauling of BabyScout I'd develop some muscles and/or stop losing weight (all that muscle!) but nooooo....

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 12/01/2011 20:19

Scout - Incoming!

Scout19075 · 12/01/2011 20:22

::Dances her Happy Dance around the tea room islands:: I was right!

(sorry, can't seem to incoming back, LaVie)

Scout19075 · 12/01/2011 20:33

::Wonders where MrScout is with the onion and fizzy water I asked for him to pick up on his way home so I can finish making dinner::

If you see MrScout can you tell him I'm hungry and awaiting my onion?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 12/01/2011 20:53

Urgent delivery for Scout

Scout19075 · 12/01/2011 21:02

Thanks, LaVie!

If something says for preschoolers, how old is a preschooler here? Does my toddler boy fit into that?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 12/01/2011 21:06

I guess a preschooler is anyone under four and a bit, which is when they now start school. What's the context?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 12/01/2011 21:10

Is that 3 to 5? Not sure.

Amber, glad to hear you are recovering.

UniS, I am at present reading a new book in the Moving Castle series by Dianna Wynne Jones. Not the best one I have ever read, but a new bok by DWJ is always good.

oxeye · 12/01/2011 21:36

Well. Big school is going quite well. Lovely teacher. Odd HM. We're going to get a tandem cos oxboy is a bit big for the child seat Smile yeah. I'm so excited. I feel a bit like Unis
and the uniform so suits oxboys colouring
I am official mnetter now. I have a slow cooker! Just need a Boden catalogue and Im away. I could get a mooncup but simply to fit in Wink
yeah. Post piccies jm!

Scout19075 · 12/01/2011 21:36

A musuem connected to the Ye Ol' University has an education room that has art and craft things availble (just about) every day for people to go in and use, as well as staff on hand to help you with some of the more "complicated" things they have on offer to try. Once a month they have a special time just for preschoolers. I thought I'd ask here before emailing to ask if I can take BabyScout (that is, how old is a preschooler). (It's a drop-in, no-booking-required event.)

oxeye · 12/01/2011 21:47

Yes. You can deffo take Scout. It's aimed at tiddkers. Sounds fab
by the way speaking of tiddlers has cmot been around lately?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 12/01/2011 21:49

Hmm. In that case, Scout, I think that Serpent's version of pre-schooler as old enough to be at pre-school is more likely to be correct than mine of not yet of school age. But we have been to several of those museums (guessing which you might mean) and always had a warm welcome even with VeryLittleMissTechno. Why not just turn up?

Oxeye - Sadly I don't venture to that part of town often, or I'd hope to see OxBoy and his little chums in the street. ::Lump in throat::

Serpent - Incoming!

Bolly, anyone?

Scout19075 · 12/01/2011 22:05

Thanks, Ladies! Had originally planned on just turning up but then started having doubts. Thought it was tomorrow (hence the question) but just double checked the intraweb and the littles session is next week. We don't do anything on Thursdays, so will be nice to go to the Ye Ol' University once a month and do things with crafty supplies we don't have at home. BabyScout's little girlfriend's mum doesn't work on Thursdays, so might be brave and ask if they'd like to come along with us (am trying to make more local friends, not just people I see at groups).

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 12/01/2011 22:14

That sounds like a good plan. The museums in that town have fab activities in half-term too.

UniS · 12/01/2011 22:21

Oxeye- Yay to tandem, its deffo a good way to go. I've tried the bolt on half a bike things and they are not nearly so easy to ride with.

Yay also to new DWJ moving castle book... name?? I can request it from the mobile library.

Dh is busy pouring rubber shavings all over the carpet . I ONLY VACUUMed YESTERDAY. git. hes cleaning up a music score that the previous user was "enthusiastic " in marking up.

Boy is settling in at school just fine, but he's aright PITA by 6pm. Went to bed (at 7pm) with out final story tonight after persistent stroppy behaviour and screaming at DH and I. He had had plenty of warnings...
