The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

Tired too - this working thing is well overrated I think. Diary is looking scary, and that is just the Dr/physio/hand therapist appointments.

How is Smallworld ?

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 20:35

Smallworld is fine, but I took a long break over Christmas and the return to work has been, ahem, challenging. I've always fancied the notion of a vast lottery win but, sadly, passed statistics at uni and so understand the odds!

Tee2072 · 06/01/2011 20:52

Evening ladies, may I have a glass, please?

My mum gets here in a week and the house is a tip. I need all the strong drink I can get.

UniS · 06/01/2011 21:56

Is it drink you need or a cleaner?

Lo all. nice chicken counter, I'll just pop this platter f fruit and healthy stuff on it with a pot chocolate sauce to dip in to. what does that big fluffy bit do? and where does one put chickens in? I think I see where one gets chicken out.

bah, i want to use big PC but DH is deep in music stuff on it, so I'm forced to use netbook. Will just have to do those jobs in morning while boy at school.

LO t baby and taco hell. If you have a child used to eating spicey food its not THAT bad. I have taken boy to McDs , with his bigger cousins, they all wanted to go and consider it a treat. Boy picked at his burger, ate the bun, some grated carrot and half his fries. I dont bother again. rather go to a chippy and get sausage n chips.

Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 21:58

Went to the meeting -- feel out of sorts for having gone.

Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 22:09

I rather got the impression the baby isn't used to spicey food. And Taco Bell has a reputation, even among those with strong constitutions.

I feel very disgruntled at the planning session and felt out of sorts there.

May I have a hot chocolate instead of a bolly?

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 22:19

Why out of sorts, Scout?

Tee - Would you like Mellors to come round, wearing his pinny*, to help with the cleaning? He is strong and capable and a bit of a whizz with the Dyson.

  • And his other clothes, before Amber gets thw wrong end of the sartorial stick. Wink
Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 22:25

Thanks Small, those hit the spot!

Dunno why. Got there and thought "Why am I here?" And felt like any of my concerns about various ideas where glossed over and ideas shot down because it's "not what/how we do it." Then I had to remind them that one of the activities a Guide is planning/running for her BP Award and they still proceeded to make decisions about the activity and how it will be run. ARGH!

When do Brownies start up again?

JM, have you left Scout, BabyScout, Small and Small's ukuelele size spaces in your suitcase?

practicallyimperfect · 06/01/2011 22:43

Hi guys. I got a letter today about dentist referral. Mine has referred me to hospital consultant as probably need my wisdom teeth out.

Anyway on letter is says, you have been referred by your dentist and cam be seen at any of the following. The first on the list is my dentist surgery!! So I have waited 2 months to be referred back to my own dentist!

I am supposed to choose one and ring them. Nuttters.

Only one lesson to teach tomorrow then my student teacher takes over.

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 22:46

Next week. This term is going to be difficult because we don't have enough regular helpers to maintain the ratios, so we have to run a parents' rota. Which, like the curate's egg, is good in parts. This is my why ever did I sign up for this? moment. I have one before the start of every term.

I love my ukulele. SmallBloke gave me a late Christmas present this evening - the Ukulele Orchestra of GB's Christmas album. Things don't get any better than this.

UniS · 06/01/2011 23:02

Unis peers into tea room window from teh blizzard... warm tropical island sort of place... wait for me, I'm coming tooo.

Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 23:04

If you don't mind a young one (who has a Brownie colored dinosaur sweatshirt), BabyScout and I would help. Grin He's very comfortable in a Guiding environment and has been to Rainbows, Guides, Senior Section and Leaders meetings.

My 14/15 year old Young Leaders were, yet again, very impressive this evening. I am proud of them.

Ooooh, I remember taking over as a student teacher -- scary stuff!

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 23:06

If only you lived near enough, Scout.

You have a genn-u-ine blizzard, UniS?

thumbwitch · 06/01/2011 23:16

Is it the sort of meeting where minutes are taken, Scout? Because it sounds like it should be, and things registered, like control-freaky overzealous leaders taking charge of stuff that someone is already planning.Angry

Tis raining here again... - so much for my washing backlog. And the party we are due to go to this morning at 11. Don't think we'll need our swimmers after all.

UniS · 06/01/2011 23:27

not yet. but it might happen overnight or it might just rain. depends on temperatures and altitudes.
Boy adamant it WILL snow because he overheard Mrs TA telling Mrs teacher it would snow.

Jacksmama · 06/01/2011 23:53

I have left space for everyone in my suitcase.
It really would be fun if we could all meet up somewhere for a sunny holiday [wistful]. :)

Bugger my Achilles tendon. I have been taking ibuprofen for days and it doesn't feel like it's getting any better. Worse, rather. And now in the last two days I've had moments when I've done a sudden movement with my ankle and the tendon gives me a shock of pain that lingers for a while. Bugger, bugger, bugger. Really don't want to have to try to get an app't with my GP tomorrow - I have wayyyy to much to do before we leave Saturday. Grrr.

Tee2072 · 07/01/2011 07:15

Thanks for the drink and the offer of Mellors. I'll take both.

JM have you tried Paracetamol instead? Sometime that works for my aches and pains better than ibuprofen even though you would think ibuprofen would work better.

That was a weird sentence.

I am so glad my son is not old enough for Guides or anything yet. I am hoping he'll be as much of a non-joiner as his father and I were. Although his dad was a Beaver for awhile. ::Tee snickers like a 12 year old at 'beaver'::

amberlight · 07/01/2011 08:58

Chucking it down with rain here irl.

MyrrhyBS · 07/01/2011 09:13

Its pouring with rain again. I think Mellors is attempting to recreate this look

UniS · 07/01/2011 09:24

Amber- you could come to our church's 9 lessons and carols service... for inexplicable reasons it has been re scheduled for Sunday 9th Jan.

Or you could come and watch Cars with DH, boy and I on saturday. We will have pop corn ( if I remember to buy any) and a boy who needs the story explained to him and a lot of reassurance that it will OK and its not soooo scary we need to stop the film.

DutchOma · 07/01/2011 10:13

Amber Kew Gardens?

CMOTdibbler · 07/01/2011 13:14

How about Living Rainforest ? Its nice and warm, and not crowded, plus you can sit and just look at things.

Or come and discuss animal taxonomy with ds. I misguidely started reading something with him that explained this, and now we have to discuss it a lot.

Tee2072 · 07/01/2011 13:25

You can come help me tidy my flat. No? Okay. Grin

Am I right in thinking that Mellors is not only the Person of Requirement but has the Looks of Requirement as well? Because this does very little for me but this would suit me just fine.

amberlight · 07/01/2011 14:22

Blimey, all good ideas!!! Thank you! Has to be something that the whole AmberFamily can do, so I fear the popcorn supplies and your patience would be exhausted, UniS Grin

Tee, ah yes, Mellors is a person of requirement, and sometimes looks like this But the other tea room inhabitants try not to worry about it too much as apparently Mellors only looks like that when it's me looking. Sometimes of course he looks like this, which is fine

UniS · 07/01/2011 14:39

my patience and pop corn supplies are already exhausted, as is boy. BOy, hes grumpy when hes tired. But is refusing to take a badly needed nap.

SHop had no pop corn, ho hum. We will make fairy cakes instead.
