The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

salima - the three letter root (most arabic words have 3 letter roots) means to be safe and sound, or secure. Also faultless, blameless. (depending on context)

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/01/2011 21:09

Thank you!

UniS · 05/01/2011 21:34

welll, I have now applied for two part time jobs since boy started school yesterday!!!! eeeek. what if i get both of them!

One is just cover/ casual work and the other is very part time short term. we shall see...

Happy You tubing ...

Unis takes large restorative glug of bolly.

splutter, slpurt, arrggghh, bubbles up my nose...

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/01/2011 21:43

Good luck with the jobs! >

asmallbunchofflowers · 05/01/2011 22:02

Yes, good luck UniS!

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 22:11

Fingers crossed, UniS!

Very confused by the hospital appointment slip BabyScout received today. What's the likelihood if I called the number on the appointment they could tell me what it's for?

Donki · 05/01/2011 22:13

Good luck UniS

My maternity cover post looks like it might become a permanent job share...

But I can't count chickens - it is not formally settled yet.

(and if I don't go and get my arse in gear and finish my preparation, then they may change their minds)

UniS · 05/01/2011 22:34

best go get arse in gear to count chickens then....
unis ponders what gear one needs to count chickens, would a clicker help? maybe a chalk sploge bag on a stick...

thumbwitch · 05/01/2011 22:56

I think a clicker would be very helpful. We used to have a 5 bar clicker to count the 5 different types of white blood cells on blood films - that would be quite useful, one could assign each type to a different breed of chicken!

Scout - phone them. They should haves some kind of clue, even if it just tells you the doctor he's supposed to see, and what that doctor does.

Good luck with job things, UniS and Donki!

Small - good luck with the ukulele - I have a problem with playing instruments of that kind, my fingers/wrist don't bend enough in the right directions to play the chords.

JM - desperately Envy of your Hawaii trip! MIL is also going to Hawaii this year some time (can't remember when exactly but she's all booked to go) - it's on my list of places to visit. Flat volcanoes and Magnum PI gave me an early interest in the place - and they're reviving Hawaii 5-O, can you beleive it??

Another grey cloudy muggy day here. Sunshine? Pah. And I need to do washing! (note to self: must get that tumbledrier after all Sad)

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 23:03

Good night, Ladies!

Good morning Tea Room!

Scout, I agree, call them. LowerCaseTee got a letter like that once, the appointment people could at least tell me which doctor it was for!

Have just, for the first time in my life, made toast under the grill. Really must go buy a new toaster today. What a faff! And now I have to wash the grill pan!

Provided the weather is has half way decent as it appears, we are off to the park today. Small boys are like dogs, they need at least one good run every day.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 06/01/2011 09:06

Mmmmmm, breakfast! Wriggle at 4.39 this morning: "I don't know what to doooooooooo, Serpent. Can we do a puzzle?" "No" "Can we read a book?" "No" "Can we talk for a bit?" "Aaaaaaagh!!!" And now of course she won't get up.

Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 09:25

I rarely question how people choose to feed their babies, but have just read that a former coworker gave her baby (turned 1 Christmas week) Taco Bell for dinner last night. Oh the pain of it....!

(I don't fancy those nappies!)

Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 10:40

Well, that was a good phone call! They think the hospital appointment for BabyScout was booked in error so have cancelled it. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and said "Oh, he was probably booked in because of a hosptial stay or procedure" until I said "He hasn't had either and has been released from the clinics he's attended (jaundice at six weeks and cardiology until he's five)." "Oh," she said, "then something's funny. Let me find out what's going on!" I'm at the hospital enough, it's good not to have to go needlessly for BabyScout as well!

I've said before and I'll say again, I've really lucked out with the NHS and my hospital experiences here.

Sorry about my previous food post, but all I kept thinking about was the poor baby's wind and sore bum after Taco Hell.....

amberlight · 06/01/2011 11:05

Hooray re lack of need for appointment!!

Taco Bell? For a 1 yr old? Shock

Tee2072 · 06/01/2011 12:35

Yippee on no appointment needed!

Gosh, I was racked with guilt when I fed my son fast food chicken at 14 months and that was a dire no other food very hungry baby emergency!

Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 13:13

I'm no food angel, even in regards to BabyScout, but Taco Bell for a 12 month old? Really? It didn't sound like a baby emergency, either. BabyScout will eat out at restaurants and pubs with us but I've managed to avoid fast food for him so far. Tis not easy when I really want McDonald's fries (and the fact that I want any food at the moment is amazing, so I'm really struggling not to rush out for some).

In an emergency I'm not sure I'd feel guilty. If it's not wonderful food or no food, I know what my choice would be.

Tee2072 · 06/01/2011 13:43

Scout I felt guilty for about an hour until I told my husband and he said 'well, he's had bits of my egg mcmuffin.' End of guilt. Instead yelling at husband. Grin

It really was an emergency, a shopping trip took much longer than anticipated and we were both really hungry. He was getting cranky and it was friend chicken or McDonald's. I decided chicken was the lesser of two evils!

Scout19075 · 06/01/2011 15:46

[cat's bum face]

Do I really HAVE to go to the planning meeting tonight? I don't wanna....!

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 19:09

[delinquent face]

Nah. Don't go. We seldom have planning meetings because I have nobody to share the planning with. Nobody suffers because of it.

Has anyone opened tonight's Bolly?

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 20:03

Ah, nectar!

How's you?

Jacksmama · 06/01/2011 20:16

I'll have some, thank you.

Tired and out of sorts today. Didn't sleep well last night, and was worried because cheque for my malpractice insurance hadn't been taken out of bank account yet - was worried it was lost in the mail. Rang them this morning and thank goodness all is well, they say they've received it so am a bit Confused but :).
