Tea Room the Nineteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

Mwah Tea xxx

Hi JollyDiane - next to virtual bolly, twiglets are the favourite thing here. We are all very slightly mad, but welcoming to all.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 21:43

Yes we can, JollyDiane. Can you be enticed to come in with a glass of Bolly? Make yourself comfy on the distressed chintz sofa, take the weight off your feet and tell us a bit about yourself.

I am Small. I am very old, have one delightful daughter and have been here since the tea room first opened its doors. In fact, ahem, I opened them.

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 21:48

Well I used to frequent the BBBAAARRRR but it seems to have closed its doors. Hmm. I am old enough to remember the rubix cube and soda stream.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 21:52

Are you my hitherto unsuspected twin, JollyDiane? Have some more Bolly. You sound like just our sort of girl.

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 21:55

. I am ridiculously excited to be going to see Take That in the summer.

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 22:05

So are you all Iron Maiden fans? I have just made my first mistake by mentioning Take That haven't I. I'll get my coat.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 22:11

I have bizarre exquisite taste in music and have just been watching Take That on Children In Need. I have one of their CDs. I know nothing, though, about Iron Maiden. Have I missed something?

You have reminded me that we sometimes throw some shapes in here on Friday and Saturday nights. SmallGirl and I are currently obsessed with this - she because it was used in Doctor Who and me because it steals uses an Elvis Costello bassline.

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 22:16

Nope. I once lost a bet and had to go to a Hawkwind concert. I was not happy.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 22:18

Ha! Silver Machine is the thing that SmallBloke and his old friends like to boogie on down to at parties. Thankfully we don't go to many parties.

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 22:26

I have tried to make my list for desert island disc. Just waiting for the call...

Scout19075 · 19/11/2010 22:27

I need to go back and read everything (so very behind!) but I've had to share -- I have had the BEST news (via email) from my doctor.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 22:29

Fabulous, Scout, but a little cryptic! Can you say more?

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 22:30

Nice to meet you especially as you have good news (and champagne) to share. Do tell

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 22:31

There were some twiglets somewhere

Donki · 19/11/2010 22:42

Wonderful news Scout - have some more carrots!

(not that I am any the wiser as to the problem)

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 22:58

Gosh you have to wait a long time for answer in this tea room.

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 23:01

Oh I get it I am sitting in a tea room all by myself. I wonder where they put the keys to the wine and crumpets. I could do with tea cake and hot butter.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 19/11/2010 23:21

You're not alone, jollydiane, but some nights are busier than others. There are no keys and even the honesty box disappeared months ago. If you're not sure where to find anything, just ask Mellors, our gardener-handyman-factotum.

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 23:28

Well good night. I'll leave my tenner tip. Nice talking to you.

JBsmama · 19/11/2010 23:45

Welcome jollydiane, do come back. Some of us are in different time zones, so you might find someone to chat with at odd times. Would you like to tell us anything about yourself? I'm the tea room's Canadian content. I live on the West Coast, near Vancouver (of recent Olympic fame).

UniS, it wasn't all THAT cold at the football game -we're not talking about Toronto temperatures. Chilly damp wind coming straight off Lake Washington (which is immediately beside Husky stadium) makes for chilly sitting, however. So much fun though.

Scout... you know none of us want to violate your privacy :) but gosh, I can't be the only one who would really love to celebrate with you in detail :) :)
Anyway, whatever it is, we're so happy for you.
Celebratory Bolly, anyone?

I have had a somewhat uncomfortable day. I think my sutures may be starting to dissolve (they are meant to) and they're poking me!!! I am starting to be able to feel the extent of the suturing, not in a bad way, but such that I see what the surgeon meant when he said the repair was a little more extensive than he thought it
would be. Oh well. It's not bad... as I said, just uncomfortable.

oxeye · 19/11/2010 23:51

Hello Jollydiane, nice to meet you except I seem to have missed you. I fear we are not up to the speed of some chat rooms - or the Richard Armitage thread Wink

But... I like Take That. And Wham. Actually it's Robbie that I like more than TT. My spotify defaults to Angels....

Getting a bit over excited about Children in Need
gotta go, my mum is here ....good news Scout

Racing - did you get those jammies???

sorry to hear small people are ill

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 20/11/2010 00:13

Oxeye - Have you been stalking me? There is nothing, I believe, as swoonsome as the darkly brooding Mr Thornton. But I am determined not to mention him here, for fear of making Mellors jealous.

I have watched two hours of Children in Need. Oooh, it's the cast of Priscilla now. Such joy.

thumbwitch · 20/11/2010 00:46

Oooh hello JollyDiane! I have crossed paths with you before, I recognise your name!

I am in Australia with miniThumb (so very nearly 3) and MrThumb - we moved here August last year (MrT is Aussie)

I hope Wriggle and UniBoy feel better soon.

I went swimming, it was good, better than last week although I am easily the least fit, the crappest swimmer and the slowest. However - the trainer is disposed to allow me to stay and do what I can and no doubt I will improve slowly. I do feel virtuous - and kernackered!Grin

Serpent - hope you get the jammies ok - perhaps you can get two sets in different ages, just in case?

JBM - glad bits are not too uncomfortable, despite prickly stitches. Soon be over. :)

Wotcher Tea!

Scout19075 · 20/11/2010 01:02

Back from putting BabyScout to bed, dinner and now ice cream. Would anyone like some chocolate with fudge and chunks ice cream?

Doctor news has to do with my disorder/why I go to the hospital every month/medication with nasty side effects. It appears to be working/doing it's thing, so things are very positive. (My appointment on Friday before we left was a big/important one with lots of extra blood tests.) My other blood tests came back good, as well.

amberlight · 20/11/2010 08:25

Yay re good blood tests!!!!!!
Hello JollyDiane - welcome! Breakfast? I'm equally happy listening to Take That or Iron Maiden, to be honest.

Cat? We went along to local rescue centre where we found Mr B the small dog. They tried to convince us to have two small lively kittens. AmberHubby was very smitten with them (which is unusual, because he's not normally a cat lover), but I was thinking "Oh my - supposing Mr B mistakes one of them for a rat?! Shock". So we abandoned the overenthusiastic lady's suggestions and found a lovely middle aged smiley friendly huge black (with a bit of white) boy, who was very calm and cheerful.

But they don't know if he's been ok with dogs, hence us not being sure if we're getting him or not yet.
