Tea Room the Nineteenth

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

That poor chinch, chints, shintch, you know what I mean, sofa gets a lot of abuse. No wonder it's distressed.
hic.

Scout19075 · 19/11/2010 00:28

Popping in to say hi and be back after pizza. (Would anyone like some? From the local pizzaria and it's fabulous!)

Second vacation this year and second time BabyScout sprouted teeth while on holiday. YAY for BabyScout! He seems much happier today.

JBsmama · 19/11/2010 06:39

Can I join the evening's tea room debauchery? :o Since you're all slumped about drunk out of your wits, I'm going to finish the cider :o
AND the pizza!!! Mmmm...

Football games was booooooooring for the first three quarters and then became exciting, finishing with a 24:7 win for "our" team, the Washington Huskies. Cold, though, oh my goodness, we were so bundled up.

Thank you all again for listening to me whinge on. I heart each and every one of you and couldn't imagine life without you all.

Jackbaby is fast asleep on the pillow beside me and DH is watching the post-game highlights. I'm having a glass of California Zinfandel... I don't think I'm too impressed with this bottle, though. I like my red wine full-bodied and smooth but this is almost chewy. I keep wondering if I should drink it or eat it with a fork. Remind me not trust wine ratings at the alcoholic store.

amberlight · 19/11/2010 07:36

Drat - missed the evening of debauchery and wild drinking!

oxeye · 19/11/2010 10:57

JM - you are welcome. I too can't imagine life without us all

CMOT - thanks for the warming ginger drink, I managed to save a little from the cider drinkers! I am almost back in the land of the living Grin good luck next week, PM me with full details Wink

Ahhhh. This morning Oxboy had his school uniform fitting. He was so good and looks totally scrummy - and very grown up. Afterwards he carried it all upstairs and carefully folded it and put is away Smile it was one of those heart swelling and almost bursting moments of parenthood when you feel dizzy with love and joy

mistlethrush · 19/11/2010 11:53

Carrot and tomato soup (with overtones from smokey paprika) and pumpkin rolls anyone?

Oxeye - Grin re uniform - although also Envy - somehow misltchick has inherited the talent from his father of being able to put on freshly laundered clothes and STILL look a scruf - even when it is his school blazer... very much in the way I imagine Just William looked most of the time... tie slightly askew, ruffled hair, one (or both) shirt tails out at the front (and the back) socks up at different heights... I have given up worrying!!!!

Busy weekend - catch up with you all next week

(JM - make sure you still take it easy [stern stare])

amberlight · 19/11/2010 13:22

We may be getting a cat!

Daren't say more, in case it doesn't happen, but we might....which is very exciting...

oxeye · 19/11/2010 13:43

As a recent convert to the wonderful world of cats, gwan gwan!!

CMOTdibbler · 19/11/2010 13:51

Cats are fab - I love the aloofness and their strange ways. I came home earlier to see BigGingerBoy talking to our neighbours as he did his tour of inspection.

I found ds's first uniform shop very emotional somehow. It also felt like being a Real Mum. We send ds out neat in the morning, and by the afternoon he is all muddy knees, untucked, socks round his ankles, and generally grubby. I am v v thankful for their practical uniform

UniS · 19/11/2010 17:32

have a poorly boy. I have cabin fever. Arrrrggggh. roll on 8.30 and going to teh pub.

amberlight · 19/11/2010 17:40

Oh no re poorly boy and cabin fever. Pub later sounds like an idea to me. Hoping dh comes home with takeaway soon - treat to mark the last day of our holiday (since the weekend doesn't count).
Nearly time to pour a glass of something, I think. Anyone for a Pinot Gigglio with the usual Surprise du Twiglet whilst we watch the yachts bobbing in the nearby harbour?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 19/11/2010 18:26

Sad re [oorly boy. Have very poorly girl asleep on my left arm. Shall we tuck them up together and go mad on the twiglet suprise?

Oxeye, I feel exactly the same about beautiful pyjamas, but do not have the budget to indulge this. Hence tragedy of burning the one free, beautiful, fairy-bedecked Boden pair I found in the Black Plastic Sack From Friends. I know Tesco's PJ's would do the same, but ... actually Wriggle doesn't normally even have pyjamas - she wears any Tshirt/leggings etc I don't like looking at during the day. These were the only ones. Not that I am losing my sense of proportion. Grin

UniS · 19/11/2010 19:05

arrr serpent, I see why you have such pain over boden PJ burning.

Twiglet surprise tonight is ... surprising, I never knew it could be that colour AND quite so spicy.

Oxeye- does oxboy having a uniform "fitting" mean he is at a school who wear more complex uniform than regulation grey trews, polo shirt and sweatshirt then? Or was it more of a "lets see what fits"? Boy has had one of those. I have now named all boys polo shirts and the trews that fit him and his sweatshirts. He did look very smart yesterday for his school visit. We have been given a small pack of iron on labels (with his name spelt right) by school, which surprised me.

Amber- I hope you have enjoyed you hols and a returning refreshed and relaxed.

JM, was football fun in such frezeing temps ?

NOT sending boy to preschool today was a good call, hes developed a rash. probably just teh normal viral rash he gets when ever he has a cold, but people do get twitchy about rashes.

UniS · 19/11/2010 19:37

wooot woot woot, hurrah, whoooopeeeeee.

Unis runs in to teh tea room leaping about like a loon and scattering bonhomie as she goes. I've won some tickets to the Masters tennis@Albert hall. My dad is going to be sooooo pleased.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 19/11/2010 20:11

Fantastic! Allow me to pass youn this racket-shaped twiglet suprise.

UniS · 19/11/2010 20:20

the irony is of course that not only can I not make it that evening ( it is 250 miles away , day of preschool major fundraiser and Ihave choir practise and we will have in laws staying) I'm not actually very interested in tennis. BUT dad is. I was going to get him tickets for the event as a Christmas present, but they chose opera tickets instead.

ON the other hand... maybe I should make my excuses and go, it'll get me away while the inlaws.....

thumbwitch · 19/11/2010 20:38

Serpent - look what I found - don't know whether they were there when you looked? :)

Trying to decide whether or not to go swimming this morning - it's 7:40 am here and coldish but the sun is out so it might warm up.

thumbwitch · 19/11/2010 20:43

UniS - I have been to the Masters tournament and it was pretty good - we saw the mens' singles finals and an exhibition game with Mansour Bahrami, a great trick shot player. Really enjoyed it but the only food available nearby was the most dire burger from a van outside!

amber - yay re cat

oxeye - aw re uniform

scout - yay re teeth

JBM - glad your bits are on the mend

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 19/11/2010 21:07

Wow, Thumb!

Donki · 19/11/2010 21:09

Evening all - anyone for Tea and carrot cake?

I had better not have any wine after last night's debauchery!

UniS - have fun, whatever you decide! (but take some food with you)

Amber - what sort of cat?

I just thought that I had better warn you that as I have just bought a replacement snow shovel, and stuff for de-icing the drive, it will not snow for at least a decade....

teafortwo · 19/11/2010 21:16

Hello all... x x x

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 19/11/2010 21:31

Wriggle and I love cats. We have two grey farm cats (which live in the house but are not as house trained as they could be sometimes). What are you going for, Amber?

Don't really mind it not snowing - maybe just one snowy Sunday?

jollydiane · 19/11/2010 21:32

I'm new be kind. Can you be bribed with twiglets?
