Tea Room the Nineteenth

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

I wouldn't worry about that - they've already read the latest 'Croziers Monthly' magazine, which has been rather livelier than planned since the editor bought in a team from the red-top tabloids to save on costs. Shock

We're getting the cat!!! This afternoon!!!!

teafortwo · 20/11/2010 14:39

WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!

Amber - does your cuddly sounding cat come with a name or do you have the delights of naming? Also I missed whether your cat-to-be is a boy or a girl?

AAAAAAAAwwww - what a week I have had. I am enjoying it being Saturday and spending some time pretending I have nothing to do!!! Grin

By the way... Nice to meet you jollydiane. You really are like a tearoom old timer already! So... I am tea and I live with my four year old girl called Milk, French husband called Beer and dwarf Cocker Spaniel called Eccles in a tiny tumbledown apartment above an antique/junk shop just outside Paris.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 20/11/2010 15:15

Hello jollydiane. I seem to have just missed you last night - I'm suprised we didn't meet at the door as I was carrying a very poorly Wriggle up to bed. Tell us something about yourself. I think you will fit right in here if you come bearing twiglets. Good name - makes me think that you may have a lacroose stick leaning against the wall behind the distressed chintz sofa ...

Now, some basic maths. If Wriggle is coughing once a second, and this cough really kicked off at about 9am this morning ie six hours ago, that is 60x60x6 coughs since then, and let's say she was only coughing about once every 30 seconds overnight, that's 30x12 coughs to add on and if she is refusing to open her mouth to take one single drop of cough medicine, am I justified in shutting her in the cupboard under the stairs and swallowing a very stiff G&T before going outside to SCREAM?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 20/11/2010 15:38

Tea, is work any better? Think FineCat is a boy.

amberlight · 20/11/2010 15:40

Got the cat!!! Mr S is now here with us, and hiding in the garage until he's worked out whether the dog is friendly. He sat on ds's lap at first in a very cheerful way so think he'll be fine.

PS UnSerpent, yes, as long as social services aren't looking Grin Wink

Serpent - SmallGirl will never willingly take medicine. Have you tried hiding it in squash? I know, I know, but it will at least have some beneficial effect.

Three cheers for the FineCat.

And, Tea, comment ca va?

Hot chocolate and some ginger cake, anyone?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 20/11/2010 16:04

Finally pretended that I was putting Grownup Cough Medicine in the syringe, dipped the tip into said concoction and ordered her to take it, M. Snake being in the garden at the time. Coughing now down to one burst every 4/5 minutes. Squash method failed as she also refuses to eat and drink. Under-stair cupboard calls....

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 20/11/2010 16:17

You did the right thing, Serpent. Really you did.

thumbwitch · 20/11/2010 16:33

Oh dear, Serpent - it can be a pita, can't it! miniThumb was always so good at taking his meds until the most recent illness, when he was utterly painful about it, and then since then (when he was on the antbiotics after), he's been fine again! Most peculiar boy.

Hot choc and ginger cake sounds rather fab, thank you Small!

Amber - hurrah for new cat! He looks lovely, btw - nice face. Welcome to MrS!

Why am I awake again? If I go to bed at a "sensible" time, I always wake up in the wee sma' hours and can't go back to sleep! It's not like I've had a full night's sleep, but somehow the brain thinks "time to get up". Well, actually I think the bladder starts it, but once up and moving, the brain joins in.

amberlight · 20/11/2010 17:53

TW, you and me both Hmm but the new sleeping potion from the doc's suggestions-list seems to be working for me most nights now, which is a relief.
Cat spent some time sitting on our laps, and now (having found out the dog is here as well) sulking in garage. Dog absolutely astonished to find cat is now member of family. It'll take a few days for them to get used to each other, I think.

Ooooh - I wish I had that problem thumb. I am the other way round... I always wake up feeling tired and not one part of my body really wants to join in with the day. It is a struggle.

unserp... we have the opposite problem there too Milk LOOOOVES taking medicines and has on occasions tried to help herself Shock. ps I answered your q elsewhere.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 20/11/2010 18:33

Tea - I have replied elsewhere too.

It's Saturday night, Strictly is starting and Mellors has just opened a chilled magnum of Bolly. Who'd like to share?

CMOTdibbler · 20/11/2010 19:50

Me, Me !

We have found a pony ! Or at least, stables owner has, and he is beautiful - a fabulous pedigree apparently, and a proper show pony quality. Am v v excited !

Mt word what a zoo. pony and cat! in one weekend.

Hi JD if you pop back, I was at the ( RL) pub last night while you were here, sorry.

Dr Dartmoor seemed to work well for boy this afternoon, we dragged him over to the next village for a local "do" then suggested walking back over the moor, once at top of teh ill he got all enthusiastic and wanted to come home teh slightly longer even wetter muddier way. Hurrah, he looked sooo much better for it when we got home at dusk. Did have a moment of wondering if we were being stupid, as we walked up onto open moorland in mist with out a compass, bivvy bag, snacks etc. Then remembered we actually do know that route fairly well and its only about 800m of open moor, just seemed a long way in the mist as you couldn't see the boundary line at either end.

DH is outside sawing wood! yes, at this time of night, the loon.

I need to put some more dry wood on teh stove, see you later.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 20/11/2010 20:40

Once again I am awed by your outdoor savvy, UniS. Perhaps we should light the woodburner here. 'Tis cold even in the metropolis.

Bolly? Or a soupcon of Twiglet Surprise?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 20/11/2010 20:45

Glad to hear Boy is better, even if the cure seems quite extreme!
Wriggle still has a high temperature and is lying on my lap being dabbed with a cool flannel. At least dozing seems to have cut down the coughing.
CMOT ... a picture of fabulous pony?

Donki · 20/11/2010 21:00

CMOT - I am very jealous. A Pony. Sigh.

Our garden just isn't big enough...

Besides, it might eat all my carrots!

I hope that you have great fun.
What is its pedigree/breed? Is it the sec A I seem to remember you talking about?

What is your local Pony Club like?

(can you tell that I really miss horses?)
