Tea Room the Nineteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

k+1 is always handy eh.

posh PJs sound lovely, but surely tesco ones will work just as well?

Mind you, I only get boy new PJs when he absolutely needs them. Currently he's in ones that stop half way to his knees and show a fair bit of midrif.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 17/11/2010 23:26

Tee hee at Boy and his fashionably cropped pyjamas.

Nightcap, anyone?

oxeye · 17/11/2010 23:38

Tipple yes please. Whisky I think for me. Feeling grim and coldy xx. Weird re jammies. I have a distinct weak spot for lovely children nightwear. All Cosy and warm and snuggly it makes me feel a sort of homey like log fires and knitting and cakes. But of course you do all those things unis so I guess tesco half mast jammies are neither here nor there!

Thanks

CMOTdibbler · 18/11/2010 08:18

UniS, would you like some new to boy pjs - tiddler has totally outgrown his age 4 ones, but maybe they'd fit boy (not sure if he is tall or not)

Am v fond of flannelette pjs for tiddler myself Oxeye - dh returned from 'whizzing to supermarket' yesterday with lovely starry ones. I have made you a flask of hot ginger drink for later - tis super warming and defies all colds and melancholy. Am seeing your recommendation next week btw.

UniS · 18/11/2010 11:15

Thanks CMOT, but its the age 4 ones that are half way up his legs! Quite a tall boy. He's having a brand new pair of age 5-6 for Christmas and does have one pair of 5-6 hand me downs in the rotation already, so hes fine really. He just likes the supermarket dinosaur PJs form 2 yrs ago.

AND what a grown up boy he looks today, he's gone to school for a visit, wearing uniform, and looking about 8. or at least 6.

Was VERY VERY excited about it all this morning. I'm sat here on MN, and playing one of the choir christmas pieces ( alto line) over and over and over ( mP3 practise track) to see if I can subliminally learn it that way.

DutchOma · 18/11/2010 11:27

What are you singing UniS. I am hoping to make choir practice tonight, but we are not doing anything that requires that sort of practising until next year october when we will have a get together in St Albans Abbey. Not sure of the programme though.
This is the Free Church Choirs (used to be called Free Church Choir Union)

UniS · 18/11/2010 11:46

Remember O Thou Man - 16th century piece
In the Bleak Mid winter- nice arrangement by H Darke
An innocent Young Virgin-arranged D Chase
Rise Up Shepard and Follow - arr G Thornett

and all the Congregational carols as well. 9 lessons and carols.

I barely read music so tis a challenge

DutchOma · 18/11/2010 12:12

The only bit I know is the Darke arrangement of the herald angels, I like that too.

Listening to Radio3 on the telly (channel 703) I saw the announcement of "In a monstery garden) by Ketelby.

UniS · 18/11/2010 14:18

LOL at monstery garden.... what lurks around teh corner I dread to think.

UniS · 18/11/2010 15:58

wish me luck ladies. Boy has a friend over to play after school RIGHT NOW. Tis first time this particular child has been here with out his family ( he has lots of siblings). So far so good, they have walked back from school chatting about how much of your body can drop off before you are dead [hgrin] . Had a drink and biscuit, now bouncing about in boys room. I think boy is being a bit bossy, but am inclined to let them get on with it unless volume level gets too high or too low.

JBsmama · 18/11/2010 16:21

Good morning all! We're in Seattle for the weekend, I think I forgot to mention that we were going to a football game today?
Scout, if you feel so moved, check out the Washington vs UCLA game tonight on ESPN. It's at UW, 5 pm Pacific time game start, so 8 pm for you I think? The UW Huskies are wearing their black uniforms for Seniors' Day and they've asked all the fans to wear black for a "blackout stadium". I might be the only one in white because the only heavy coat i have is white. :o

Oxeye... Thank you so much for your lovely words about me being stoical. I've tried but I'm far from anything of the kind. But it's gone on so long now that I feel like people just don't want to hear about it anymore... and of course it's such a personal thing that it makes people squirm. I've tried not to whinge too much... so thank you (all of you) for your support and understanding and letting me vent here.
xxJM

amberlight · 18/11/2010 16:38

I always want to hear about things and never get bored of them or squirmy about things medical. I can't say I always understand them, but that's unimportant. Talk away, JM.

Back off holiday. Good journey. Feeling so much more like myself.

drinks accepted. Ginger beer for me I think.

Now trying to drum "rise up Shepard and follow " alto part into my brain.

UniS · 18/11/2010 19:27

Bear Bear Bear

look what I found, just in time for children in need I guess?
Boy is supposed to take a teddy to preschool tomorrow. pretty easy thankfully, school are having a spotty head gear day!

Donki · 18/11/2010 19:29

JM heaven knows that you are very patient listening/reading when I vent. Post as much as you want... I won't mind.

But then the years spent working with horses has coarsened my sensibilities so that I am likely to talk about anything - and forget that most people think that bodily functions etc are not nice.

Being a science teacher and talking about anatomy and physiology at school doesn't help either.

My favourite example of diffusion is the smell from the school toilets, and exactly where the molecules of smell have come from...

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 18/11/2010 20:17

JM - I am always happy to listen. And as you know, unsolicited and misinformed advice is something of a speciality of mine. Wink

CMOTdibbler · 18/11/2010 20:26

And I am totally unshockable. After all, I seem to spend my work life talking about bits.

Mulled cider anyone ?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 18/11/2010 20:28

Yes, please! Just the thing on a cold evening to accompany the Twigletto Sorpreso.

Donki · 18/11/2010 20:29

Sounds wonderful CMOT - after all it is made with apples!

Donkeys love apples - nearly as good as carrots.

Hic!
Delishus!

Donki · 18/11/2010 20:31

CMOTdibbler · 18/11/2010 20:35

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 18/11/2010 20:38
