Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Hello OneTwo! Nice to see you and ta for the rum, much appreciated. :)

Rum punch, anyone?

I have Good News today. DH finally caved and bought me a painting I have been lusting after since I saw it back in April at an art exhibition. He wouldn't buy it then (too expensive and he wanted to get some of my paintings up that we'd brought from England before buying any more). Then a few weeks back we saw it in a weekend-only art shop in a shopping centre - but he wouldn't buy it then either. When he did agree to buy it, we went back and it was gone - the old man in there said it was probably sold. :( But! I was in there last week, had a look anyway and there it was! So today, we went back. The painting wasn't there but the woman who painted it was - and she knew which painting DH was talking about - so they agreed a price and we went to her house to pick it up! It's now hanging on my wall, looking fab. I have a Very Good Feeling about it - it was meant to be my picture - I hope it is a lucky one. :)

amberlight · 15/08/2010 13:02

Oh go on then - rum punch will be lovely!

Thumb, are we allowed to know the theme of said painting?

Right, Mellors has some spare time after re-varnishing the decking - who's for that foot massage?

OneTwoBuckleMyShoe · 15/08/2010 13:13

Oh haven't introduced myself properly!

I am OneTwo, I have DD 11 months and DH, 2 very lazy cats and lots of fish! I am a teacher so am enjoying my last few days with DD before she starts nursery in a few weeks.

DD is an only through choice due to horrid pregnancy and the fact she is perfect Grin. Have a thread in AIBU about only children at the moment.

thumbwitch · 15/08/2010 13:16

You are indeed, amber - in fact I took a couple of photos of it and will put them on my profile whenever I find the cable that goes from camera to laptop. It is a bunch of grapes. I know, doesn't sound exciting - but grapes are my "thing". I have 3 prints of grapes, different colours, and many grapes as ornaments - crystal, glass, plastic, onyx, jade - I rather love grapes!

OneTwo - will go and look at your AIBU. :)

Foot massage this way, please!

thumbwitch · 15/08/2010 14:17

OK, have put picture of painting on my profile for anyone to inspect. It's rather lovely, IMO...

amberlight · 15/08/2010 18:51

Beautifully balanced, deep, with good sense of triangulation. I can see why you fell in love with it.

UniS · 15/08/2010 21:38

erm rum? not for me thanks, last time I drank rum I fell over AND threw up. NOT a good look.
I blame the rum, tho Dh says the several pints of beer beforehand may have had something to do with it.

I've just re-roofed our woodshed. lordy me that was an uncomfortable job. lots of leaning off ladder at precarious angle with drill in hand trying not to fall through the corrugated plastic.

Ginger beer? and nice crisps?

Starting tomorrow is the village craft workshop week, DS and I will be going along most mornings, no idea what DS will end up making other than a mess, but he might enjoy it.

My plastic knitting was entered for the village show yesterday ( as well as teh compost - in a Different class Amber, before you ask) and the two items came 1st and 2nd in the item made from re-cycling class. Hurrah.

thumbwitch · 15/08/2010 22:46

what items did you end up knitting, UniS? things to wear?

thanks amber - I do just love it! :)

AandO · 16/08/2010 13:49

Hey, it's sooo quiet around here at the mo. There is normally about 12 tea roomers I think, and I suppose at the moment only 5 regulars are not on hols.

I move out in 6 days Shock. I'm taking LittleO down to his grandparents on Wednesday and then spending three days up here without him to do a packing frenzy.

I haven't checked the FB page, I will in a mo. Are you guys still having trouble with it?

It's nearly parcel time. Thumb, you'll be leaving for the UK any day soon right?

amberlight · 16/08/2010 16:05

Am I too late for a lewd roll? Oh, I see I am - the Bishops have nabbed the lot again Hmm

Six days, A&O? Heck! Have a large rum/gin/glass of whatever is calming under the circumstances.

Been meeting with accountants most of the day. I can see annual accounts before my eyes...must...lie...down...

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 16/08/2010 17:18

I am leaving on WEdnesday, A&O. Will be in the UK on Thursday but probably not resuming comms until late Thursday, possibly Friday, depending on levels of sleep deprivation.

Eek at packing - I hate it. I am Not Moving again for years.

I still can't post on the group FB page and I can't find out whether or not the "validate your account" message is genuine or as a result of me clicking on some stupid link my sis sent me. Angry

Contacting FB isn't easy either - I've tried to find a problem area that matches mine, but it's not obvious. Pah!

UniS · 16/08/2010 19:30

2 knitted from plastic bag items were - a waistcoat ( modelled by Big teddy) and a child's neck purse. The waistcooat will bein a fashion show next saturday and I'm also making a woollen knitted creation/ hat fasinator for me to model AND a Mock Turtle outfit from withy and paper for boy to wear in the "Alice" class. So its a busy crafty week.

BollockstheSpider · 16/08/2010 19:33

SPIDER RAMPAGE!!

har har har

spider runs in!
spider runs out!

WATCH ME GO!
Grin

amberlight · 16/08/2010 19:41

First superfast compost, now spiders!...It's like a giant racecourse in here!

OP posts:
AandO · 16/08/2010 22:09

I know 6 days! I'm feeling a little sad to be leaving but I'd feel sadder if I was staying iykwim!

Thumb - That's a pain thumb. We need FB to do address swaps. Oh, I suppose you can still be contacted/contact your FB friends though so we can do it that way.

UniS - Wow, I can't even knit!

Amber - Hope all the news was good at the accountants Smile

Spider - Hmm

Catitainahatita · 16/08/2010 22:49

Hello all.

I've not got long, I just wanted a moan. Mr. Hatita has been helping out with childcare while I am in the midst of my end-of-project crisis. We've been taking it in turns to work in the afternoons (I usually do 8-3) while the other stays home with the children. While we have no classes here, Mr. H doesn't have to be necessarily in work in the afternoons, but up until this crisis he always worked until 9pm.

Anyway, today is my turn to work. This morning he said wanted to talk about our arrangement (which is only good for another fortnight anyway as classes start in the last week in August). My hunch is is going to say he can't stay at home in the afternoon anymore. I'm guessing he will allege that he is snowed under with work....

Hmm. Maybe I'm jumping the gun. Feel free to shout at me if I tell you tomorrow that this isn't what he said.

UniS · 16/08/2010 22:51

FB test run earlier and I can still post on and read the disco board.

Have just knitted a piece of fabric to turn into a hat or maybe a scarf. really must learn to do hats properly as I think this one will be a bit bodgy. I only learnt to knit in the spring, still a newbie really.
DH is re-reading Alice to see if he can come up with an obsure idea for a costume. I've started making boy a mock turtle outfit. Oh teh joys of fashion show.

re- that big spider, I think It was under our stove last night. DJ said one wondered in, eyeballed him and then clomped over to the stove. I pulled it out by one boot ( at DHs request) and dispatched it to the garden. Found a massive caterpillar on teh sofa this afternoon. AND saw an Adder yesterday, not in the garden, up on the moor. Tis wildlife central round here.

thumbwitch · 16/08/2010 23:42

Lol at wildlife central :)
Have just had a phonecall from MrThumb - he took his car in to be serviced this moning and is catching the train home - by the station he caught sight of movement in the grass - tis a wild guineapig! Do you think Racingpig has migrated this way?? ShockGrin

Catita - if he is being an arse, tell him he's being an arse - I had a lot of this with MrThumb while finishing off the text book, he was all "I'm doing all the work while you muck about on the computer and how long is this going to last?" despite being given fairly clear ideas of how important it was and how long it was likely to take!! Men - Pah!

A&O - I know. Am going to wait until Scout comes back on line and then try leaving the group and re-joining - it might work, it might not. I can still use the rest of FB though so can still send messages, just can't post on the group wall. :(

Spider schmider - you don't worry me, I have redbacks to deal with.

JBsmama · 17/08/2010 15:44

Is it just me or did a giant spider just run through here?

WTH?

UniS · 17/08/2010 18:57

It escaped from Chat, worry not.

JBsmama · 17/08/2010 20:16

UniS, I just wanted to tell you that I think you must be the most capable woman I know. I'm constantly amazed when I read that you were re-roofing a shed or winning prizes for compost or knitting stuff... I feel completely feeble in comparison. If I had a hat, it would be off to you.

UniS · 17/08/2010 21:39

um, thanks JB. I'm completely pants at what you do for a living tho. My house is mess as there is always something more intersting to do than house work and you can't see my desk for paper piled high as I hate filing.

Boy had his preschool sight test today, passed with flying colours which is handy as I'd hate to try and keep track of a pair of glasses on a boy who leaves things lieing about .

thanks for reminding me that I meant to make an eye test appointment for ds UniS

Am watching To Wong Foo, and find my attraction to Welsey Snipes in drag very odd !

UniS · 18/08/2010 19:51

Thank you for teh sweeping Amber, very nice little zen garden you have left out there.

UniS really ought to be knitting as I seem to have 2 projects to finish by saturday, eeekkkk.

Boy has 1st Speech and Language assesment tomorrow. Oddly I'm rather hoping he is very chatty but not understandable, else ways it going to look like we are paranoid parents of a PFB. This is the child who said , whilst in a supermarket yesterday, " stop, this has caught my eye" or rather " op, is ha aught my eye"
