Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

CMOTdibbler · 13/08/2010 20:09

welcome sussex - we have lots of fun here, and occasionally we have angst too.

I had a wobbly moment this week (well many as \i've been in hospital with a smashed wrist) as I got put on a gynae ward due to bed space problems. Being kind nurses, they put me with the pg ladies with hyperemesis etc (being closest in age) but the constant baby chat made me feel very weird, and then people joked about me coming back from that ward pg....

DH has now installed me on the sofa with my laptop, a large beanbag for my arm, and is out getting a takeaway. Life is good

thumbwitch · 13/08/2010 23:58

sussex (great name!) - you can start a thread of your own in the One Child topic if you need specific support but we are all good listeners whenever anyone is trying to come to terms with their only child situation. Most people on here have one (a couple have two but we love them anyway) and a variety of reasons as to why.

If you're feeling sad and don't feel up to the atmosphere in here just yet, that's ok - but do come back and see us again if you want to!:)

JBsmama · 14/08/2010 00:36

Welcome sussex! We try to be a pretty fun bunch (actually, we do pretty well!) but I'll tell you, I've never come across a more loving and supportive group of people.

So plop yourself down and have a rootle in the Tea Room's Booze Cabinet of Requirement (or the Fridge, or Tea Trolley of Requirement if you're not into booze) and unload. So far all we know about you is you have one child and aren't having any more. Do you want to tell us how that came about?

I'm not having any more partly because it's physically in doubt whether I could have more or not, but mainly because JB's delivery was so crap that I can't imagine doing it again. Yes, I know there are options, C-section etc... but I had PTSD after his birth and still have flashbacks and stuff. It was an ugly ride. Can't do it again. JB's two and a half (today!), and he's a fantastic little boy, and the light of my life, I'm going to be happy about that. But believe me, I still have pissed-off moments. As everyone in here will could tell you, I tend to overshare. But I also give good (((HUGS))) :o

Scout19075 · 14/08/2010 08:55

Hey, is JB a 28th baby?! So is BabyScout. He's 9.5 months today!!

Off to camp ladies (via Boots and Sainsbury's first). Catch you next weekend when we're home.

Have a great week!!! (And I'll definitely have pictures of nursery and camp by then!)

amberlight · 14/08/2010 09:26

There are Camp ladies? Shock Sounds like a fun event! Enjoy, Scout!

Hi Sussex - have a cuppa and a sit down. Our handsome virtual gardener/handyman, Mellors is always around to soothe away the stresses of modern life (er, with a little light conversation or a perfectly proper and decent massage of course Blush )

We only have the one. He's nearly 18 now. Been through all the 'heck, only one!' stages and on into the 'blimey, actually it was all fine!" realisations, which is sometimes useful for others and sometimes not.

CMOT, anything we can get you?
Morning all. Feeling a bit more human, which is unusual for me Hmm

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 14/08/2010 12:45

Hurrah for feeling human! I am about to do Day 4 of the 30 day shred - it's a bit scary but I'm not hating it yet, which is a good thing. Mucking it up by eating chocolate and drinking wine as well though - not too bright! but my main impetus was just to do some exercise instead of sitting on my steadily-increasing behind all day.

Scout - have fun at camp and I hope it is dry at least some of the time. By the time you return, I will be in the UK - hurrah!

JBsmama · 14/08/2010 17:40

Scout - your counting's a bit off :o. Must be the meds. If you count back two and a half years from yesterday you get to Feb 13, 2008. But if you count back nine and a half months from today you get to Oct 28th, 2009. Minor detail :o :o

Did we scare Sussex off? I hope not.

UniS · 14/08/2010 20:08

Welcome back CMOT.

Welcome to feeling human Amber.

welcome to Camp scout.

welcome welcome one and all.

Hurrah for having one kid. Boy and I entered 14 classes in the village show and won prizes in 10 of them. We more than covered our entry fees in winnings( the grand sum of 50p for 1st, 30 for 2nd and 10p for third).

My compost came 2nd. which I was very very please about, 1st was unthinkable, its always teh same chap who wins first ( or so I'm told) . I DO want to win the compost cup now I've seen it. Its a tankard, I'd be able to keep it at the pub.

Planning another walk for tomorrow. Today I made boy walk to the next village where show was being held, the long way, over the shoulder of the moor. He seems to NEED a lot of exercising at present, rather like a puppy. Other wise hes bouncing off the walls whist being grumpy, and roary at home, maybe its a testosterone spurt thing.

sussexoldspot · 14/08/2010 20:36

Evening, everyone!

Am over the moon that this is the right place and thanks for the great welcome - have also found a more miserable thread, so I can kick back and relax on this one. Hozzah!

Thanks also for the hugs - have a lovely 3 year old boy and have become increasingly and obsessively desperate for a 2nd child, but have had loads of miscarriages, and am at the point where I think I need to call it a day and concentrate on what I have.

I live in Sussex, am a bit old (42) and eat like a pig, so the name is reasonably apt.

Weekends are usually very hectic, consisting mainly of the dual middle-class pursuits of traipsing round castles and troughing cream teas Grinso please don't think I was scared off, I was busy fighting wasps off my strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Now I'm going to delve into the thread and try to get a grip on who's who!

UniS · 14/08/2010 20:47

ohhhh cream tea lover eh. you'll fit right in.

I'm UniS- I'm in teh other land of cream teas- Devon. my only is 4 yr old boy. I type VERY badly.

CMOTdibbler · 14/08/2010 20:49

Well, I'm CMOT, have a DH and a 4 yr old DS.
I had 3 mc before him, a not very nice pg, and a prem birth, so although we said we only wanted 1 before ever ttc, that decision was compounded to be definate.

Currently, I am languishing on the sofa as I smashed my wrist last weekend.

UniS, congrats on 2nd in compst class.

Could Mellors come and do my feet ?

Catitainahatita · 14/08/2010 21:37

Hello all.
Hello Sussex

I'm Catita. I live in Mexico with my DH (who is Mexican to save you asking). I actually have 2 children (2 years, nearly 3 and 9 months), but the tearoomers welcomed me in the days when I had only one (and thought that that was all there would be due to variuos health issues).

thumbwitch · 14/08/2010 22:35

oh goody, sussex came back!:)

I have one DS, 2.8 atm. We are still trying to have a second but I am Even Older than you so it's not looking great. :( Will just keep trying for a while longer though.

I live in Australia, since last August, as DH is Aussie. So I post at funny times.

JBsmama · 14/08/2010 23:49

Oh, I'm in Canada (West Coast) so I'm 8 hours behind and post at odd times as well. If 42 qualifies as old then I'm nearly old (was 41 in April) :o

thumbwitch · 15/08/2010 00:00

UniS - congrats on 2nd in compost comp - although that is quite amusing on some small scale! I had an e-book on "how to make the perfect compost", a proper colloidal compost - but it was all too complicated to start with and didn't seem to allow for adding daily potato peelings etc. :(.

I am having troubles with our FB page - I can't post on there any more without having to verify my account with a mobile number or a credit card, ffs! How wrong is that?

JBsmama · 15/08/2010 00:29

Wth? That is weird. First fb screwed my stuff up, now yours. ???

thumbwitch · 15/08/2010 00:31

I reckon it's Scout's fault, seein as how she's not here to defend herself Grin

Not happy about it - I can post normally, just not on the TR group wall. :( I tried switching off and back on again - maybe I should try logging out and logging back in again. That might work...

amberlight · 15/08/2010 07:49

UniS, for a moment I had visions of very fast compost streaking past the line in second place Shock

CMOT, Mellors is even now massaging your feet with tropical oils.

Sussex, I'm Amber and I have one ds age nearly 18, live in the central South of England with him, dh, dsis and a small dog we call Mr B here. Oh, and a horse who doesn't live with us (praise be) who's called Mr T. I'm on the autism spectrum but they're used to me Grin Blush

JB, that is very weird. Wonder if it's a scam of some sort?

Full English breakfast available, in various international varieties...

OP posts:
OneTwoBuckleMyShoe · 15/08/2010 08:01

Can I sneak in? I have a shipment of rum here...

amberlight · 15/08/2010 08:12

Rum, you say? Welcome! Grin

Cuppa?

OP posts:
OneTwoBuckleMyShoe · 15/08/2010 08:19

Oh yes please, I am gasping!

amberlight · 15/08/2010 08:30

So what brings you to these golden sands and the relaxing massages of Mellors the virtual gardener/handyperson/beach surfing dude, then?

OP posts:
OneTwoBuckleMyShoe · 15/08/2010 09:15

Respite from those who see it as their duty to go on and on at me about not having another baby.

That and I heard the foot rubs here are excellent!

CMOTdibbler · 15/08/2010 10:34

Rum ! A woman after me own heart

We don't allow any of the unwelcome nagging here - actually that, and conversations about spoilt/bratty onlies are the only things that don't go here.

DH has just taken ds out to the cinema (along with small girlfriend of ds) to watch a Tinkerbelle movie. Small friends parents are having ds this afternoon in return

AandO · 15/08/2010 11:04

Morning guys Smile.

Two new people wow! I'm AandO, I live in Dublin (for one week more only Shock), I have a dh and a 3 year old boy (he'll be 4 in October). I have an only due to choice. I waver, but not enough to consider trying for another. I like life with a bit of time to myself. I like nice quiet (ish) coffees in cafes with ds and not too chaotic family days out. So, purely selfish reasons here Grin! But hey, I'm not ruling it out entirely. Though I landmark event happened a few months back, I held a newborn and didn't feel anything! I've held several newborns since and no, not a twinge...it makes life easier by far.

Lovely day here. Spent yesterday in stately home gardens, wondering around walled gardens, rose gardens and sitting in tea rooms (in RL) reading the papers. LittleO played really nicely with two other little boys in the tea room garden for over an hour! He took a bag of dinosaurs from home...good for making friends Grin.

Coffee anyone?
