Lily Allen - she really is an unpleasant woman isn't she?

And all her music sounds the same, talky shite.

Sorry if you like her but DH was just reading her opinions on various people and she is quite ugly in her opinions. Add this to the other things i have read or seen her say in interviews.

no, i don't even particularly like her music and i certainly don't think she's the world's greatest lyricist. however i don't think on the basis of one bit of clips search copy it's fair to say that she's an unpleasant woman who holds ugly views, as you did. i think she's bright and i thougth those quotes were FUNNY. and meant to be funny at the time, i'd imagine, from what i've seen of her.

SenoraPostrophe · 06/07/2009 22:35

I think she's OK.

some of her lyrics are a bit crap (eg "it's not fair"), but some are great

I like

I'm not a saint
and I'm not a sinner
but it doesn't matter
as long as I'm getting thinner

about class: she doesn't pretend to be working class, unless I've missed something. I think the streets of london song you're talking about is london Town, which is a cover? and she doesn't really do the cod cockney thing too much. unlike damon albran for example.

I much prefer her to Kate Nash anyway

MrsSpringsteen · 06/07/2009 22:35

she went to private school but claims a poverty stricken struggling childhood

never liked her Da' anyway!

MrsSpringsteen · 06/07/2009 22:36

'Its not fair'

then

Swedes · 06/07/2009 22:36

I think Lily Allen's lyrics are good, often really really good. But I could live without the gratuitous swearing.

This is Van Morrison's last verse in his song Melancholia.

It's only melancholia
Oh melancholia, oh melancholia, oh melancholia, oh melancholia
Melancholia, melancholia
They call it, call it melancholia, call it melancholia, call it melancholia, call it melancholia
Call it melancholia, melancholia, melancholia, melancholia

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 22:38

It was not based on that alone though. It was that which encouraged me to post, but I am not that shallow that I would base an entire opinion of someone in the public eye based on one thing alone. She has been around a while, she has a reputation, much of which is from her own self, it has built up.

I expect if these were the first and only negative things I have heard about her it would have hardly registered.

and speaking of kate nash, the lyric "and you said I must have eaten too many lemons, because I'm so bittaah" is perhaps the worst of all time. worse even than "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier"

MrsSpringsteen · 06/07/2009 22:39

'well I lie here in the wet patch in the middle of the bed
I'm feeling pretty damn hard done by, I spent ages giving head'

that Van Morrison song was shite but give me it any day over that gratuitous 'zoo' and 'nuts' of pop

Woooozle100 · 06/07/2009 22:40

haha swedes

lily allen's version would go

melancholic melancholic melancholic
alcoholic
gin and tonic
melancholic

MrsSpringsteen · 06/07/2009 22:42

senora i lurve that Kate Nash lyric!

along with 'and I purposely wont turn the heating on'

truly fab !

Swedes · 06/07/2009 22:45

I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don't care about clever I don?t care about funny
I want loads of clothes and f@#kloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them

I'll take my clothes off and it'll be shameless
'Cause everyone knows that's how you get famous
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah I'm on to a winner

Life's about film stars and less about mothers
It's all about fast cars and passing each other
But it doesn't matter cause I?m packing plastic
and that's what makes my life so f@#king fantastic

And I am a weapon of massive consumption
and its not my fault it's how I'm programmed to function
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah I'm on to a winner

Forget about guns and forget ammunition
Cause I'm killing them all on my own little mission
Now I'm not a saint but I'm not a sinner
Now everything is cool as long as I'm getting thinner

Chorus
I don't know what's right and what's real anymore
I don't know how I'm meant to feel anymore
When we think it will all become clear
'Cause I'm being taken over by fear

I think those are pretty good lyrics of our time.

AvengingGerbil · 06/07/2009 22:48

But she spoke disrespectfully of Bruce Springsteen in the BBC's Glastonbury coverage, so as far as I am concerned she goes to the bottom of the class.

MrsSpringsteen · 06/07/2009 22:53

did she Gerbil?

How VERY DARE SHE!!!!!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 23:12

Avenging - I heard that too. That definitely had an impact on any impression of her. How dare she be disrespectful of MrsSpringsteen's DH

He says he couldn't care less Pavlov

He said lucky for me he does make women scream

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 23:26

stop it with the teasing MrsSpringsteen

I do like that song The Fear, love the lyrics - and how brilliant that she's saying that and getting heard by the people that kind of need to hear it, and my dh loves It's Not Fair, cos he is smug.

I think there are many many more objectionable women (and men) in pop music than Lily Allen.

lou33 · 12/08/2009 23:26

i just bought her album today, i am really liking it

SilverStuddedBlue · 13/08/2009 00:02

the song F_ck You sounded lovely, sung by 2 French 10 yr olds when it came on the car radio, in France. Just think how cute it would be for my 5 yr old to be able to join in? . NOT. I prefer inference to in yer face in lyrics. I'd rather there weren't swear words everywhere. But I am old fashioned

lou33 · 13/08/2009 00:04

the cd does warn you on the front it has explicit lyrics though

i just fast forward when that comes on if my kids are about
