Lily Allen - she really is an unpleasant woman isn't she?

And all her music sounds the same, talky shite.

Sorry if you like her but DH was just reading her opinions on various people and she is quite ugly in her opinions. Add this to the other things i have read or seen her say in interviews.

Aitch I am guessing pav's dh would give her 1 (out of 10 of course...)

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 06/07/2009 19:17

I think she's writing song lyrics that are as clever and resonant as the stuff Difford and Tilbrook were writing 20 years ago. And no-one ever gave a shit wht they looked like.

KingRolo · 06/07/2009 19:23

4/10?

That Morrissey though, I'd give him 8.5/10.

Heated · 06/07/2009 19:25

She's clever and witty. Am always amused by:

there's just one thing that's getting in the way
when we go up to bed you're just not good it's such a shame
I look into your eyes I want to get to know you
and then you make this noise and its apparent it's all over

it's not fair and I think your really mean
I think your really mean
yes I think your really mean

oh your supposed to care but you never make me scream
you never make me scream

Purportedly she actually played the It's Not Fair lyrics to the man they're about, but just as the song shows, he's so obtuse he didn't realise it was about him

Mintyy · 06/07/2009 19:30

Surely Pav's dh replied "I'd give her one!" fnarr ...

JesuslovesCatholicSchools · 06/07/2009 19:32

i like her - she is my secret shame

fluffles · 06/07/2009 19:39

i like those quotes - i think they're funny

eatyourveg · 06/07/2009 20:05

I like her a lot and ds2 thinks she is beautiful its such a big pity that you can't buy her songs as they are sung on the radio. The kids love the "clean" versions but you can't buy a copy without all the foul language in almost every single song. The kids are too young so unfortuately we haven't bought the latest album.

Tinker · 06/07/2009 20:07

Yes. Not read thread just wanted to record a Yes to thread title

cornsilk · 06/07/2009 20:11

I think she's stunning. She used to annoy me when she was younger - in a Peaches Geldof kind of way - but I like her now.

Hassled · 06/07/2009 20:17

I thought the Observer quotes were hilarious and I adore Lily - she's young still, remember, and probably still has some growing up to do but she's witty and clever and individual. I'd rather someone human with flaws than some Barbie-esque Pussycat Doll type with no opinions or personality.

Habbibu · 06/07/2009 20:20

Meh. Not sure (in fact absolutely certain I wouldn't) I'd go as far as remotely clever or witty to those lyrics, Heated. She and Kate Nash and all their ilk leave me cold.

morningpaper · 06/07/2009 20:21

Dearie me, I think that the Observer could run a "In their own words" article on any Mumsnetter and make them look like a vituperative childcare fundamentalist

none of which would necessary be true

Habbibu · 06/07/2009 20:23

I don't get the whole "she's clever" thing - compared to who? It's like Graham LeSaux being a football genius because he has A levels.

And witty? Tom Lehrer she ain't. The Katie Melua spoofs on here a while back were hundreds of times funnier than LA.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 06/07/2009 20:24

Her lyrics are cleverer than most in the charts today.

I expect they will get better as she gets older though.

She hasn't reached Leonard Cohen levels just yet.

Noonki · 06/07/2009 20:26

I love her lyrics. make me laugh

cornsilk · 06/07/2009 20:29

I like her lyrics as well. She comes across as someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously.

cornsilk · 06/07/2009 20:30

Pedant alert in my last post.

Ewe · 06/07/2009 20:32

eatyourveg I have a clean version of her album, got it from itunes and it is all of the radio edits of the songs.

Woooozle100 · 06/07/2009 20:38

she really gets on my tits

weak, petulant, embarrassing lyrics. Can't understand how she gets lauded as some great song writer

wonderstuff - was it you that said she's refreshing in a not being in her underwear way? What about her chiffon attempt at glasto? Not much more than bra and knickers really. And seems to me that she's done what they all do when they loose some weight

AitchTwoOh · 06/07/2009 20:39

it's exactly like graeme le saux, habs, that's the point. very little music 'product' is actively marketed these days, so in her rock pool she's a big, clever fish.

i'm off to look for the inevitable 'wtF just happened on corrie?' bfing thread now. audrey roberts saying 'oh just give him a bottle, i know they say breast is best but look at my gail' etc and kirk saying he doesn't know where to look. i do hope it's going somewhere.

No, of course she's not Cohen or Dylan but she's not tring to be. She writes witty, observational pop music, and she does it very well. Yes, there's not much in the way of angst, but that's fine by me.

mrsmaidamess · 06/07/2009 20:49

She swears too much in her songs.

It's lazy, not big and not clever.
