I was listening to 'Way to Blue' in the car today, and thinking: I love the acoustic guitar, and I love the English-folky vibe. But I farking hate Nick Drake's voice so it spoils it a bit.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Also classical acoustic guitar stuff, like the Orange Joooooth thingy.

I theng yew.

scott matthews?

policywonk · 26/06/2008 18:09

Thank you both. I've never tried Jeff Buckley - is he Song to the Siren guy or Hellelujah guy?

I will check out YouTube links later when I'm on the laptop (which has a sound card on it).

Jeff Buckley sung Halleluja yes, but it's not his song.

How about Bon Iver?

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2008 18:15

Boo Hewerdine...

OverMyDeadBody · 26/06/2008 18:15

If you want classical - i love John Williams playing Rodrigo's guitar concerto

theSuburbanDryad · 26/06/2008 18:30

Stephen Fretwell? Not all acousticy butv good (saw him live a few years ago)

Jack Johnson? Jose Gonzalez? Newton Faulkner?

OverMyDeadBody · 26/06/2008 18:33

Jack Johnson? yes that's nice an acoustic. A bit drab for my liking, but nice voice, catchy

policywonk · 26/06/2008 18:37

Jack Johnson's a bit MOR for me. Ditto Newton F and James M.

(Dissing people's suggestions feels very rude doesn't it?)

OverMyDeadBody · 26/06/2008 18:39

good good policy, so you want something as bit more talented yes? I agree

OverMyDeadBody · 26/06/2008 18:39

has no one mentioned ben harper yet?

OverMyDeadBody · 26/06/2008 18:41

Ben Harper. This song is from my dark low days

policywonk · 26/06/2008 20:18

Right then, I really like the Scott Matthews and the Martin Stephenson. Boo Hewerdine and Bon Iver were good too. Any recommendations for albums from these?

I think I'm after mournful rather than upbeat.

Thanks also for the John Williams link. What's like that?
