I was listening to 'Way to Blue' in the car today, and thinking: I love the acoustic guitar, and I love the English-folky vibe. But I farking hate Nick Drake's voice so it spoils it a bit.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Also classical acoustic guitar stuff, like the Orange Joooooth thingy.

I theng yew.

The only guitar album you'll ever need? Seriously? Seriously seriously? If I ever threatened to come round and visit you would only need to say "I will put 'The Only Guitar Album You'll Ever Need' on" and I probably would have to ring you 5 minutes before and tell you my car had broken down/I broke my arm/ I needed to wash my hair instead. I can't express my horror succinctly enough.

I'm sure it's a great choice though. Just hand over the farking wallet NOW!

I'm ok btw. I'll be a mess of snot and tears when "it" happens but I'm ok now

You can borrow a huge Giant Schnauzer puppy anytime you like mate..............

policywonk · 27/06/2008 23:03

I do apologise. In my defence, non of you fuckers lovely posters were suggesting anything classical, so I have ordered the aural equivalent of a pick-n-mix. If you come round, I'm sure I could find something suitably ear-bleeding among DP's collection.

can't believe you chose that over the delectable cowboy junkies

harpomarx · 27/06/2008 23:14

policywonk, I admire your balls in canvassing opinion on must have acoustic artists, receiving a load of esoteric replies and then ordering 'The best Guitar Album in the World. EVER!'

you rock

winestein · 27/06/2008 23:20

I'm trying to laugh, but given I have lost my voice I am just repeatedly honking in the manner of a swan at your post Harpo

Wonk - I can't stand listening to loud music with anyone else. I am a contrary fucker devil.

Oooh, yes... gimme your Giant Schnauzer. Gimme!

policywonk · 27/06/2008 23:20

Harpo. The Only Guitar Album You'll Ever Need is a CLASSICAL selection, folks. You badly let me down on that front.

Wisteria, I've already got Trinity Sessions so thought I'd try something new...

The standard was very high this year, and picking the winners has been a very tough job.

Wisteria · 27/06/2008 23:26

ok - might let you off then, but Black Eyed Man is better (IMHO) bearing in mind Trinity Sessions was my favourite for years!! Put it on your list for next time

she won't, we're going to the pub to max out your cards

DaDaDa · 27/06/2008 23:32

MAS nicked all my suggestions.

But if you're feeling really doleful go for some Elliot Smith.

Oh, and you must buy 'Surf' by Roddy Frame. Small World. In fact everyone must buy 'Surf'.

Wisteria · 27/06/2008 23:35

I already did that one Dadada - am listening to figure 8 as we speak!

Wisteria · 27/06/2008 23:38

ooh - nearly forgot, I caught Mark Morriss from the Bluetones doing an acoustic solo set the other week in Wolverhampton - he was brilliant

policywonk · 27/06/2008 23:40

Oh, I used to love Aztec Camera. Jeez. Just give me a couple of weeks to distract DP with some shiny new gadgets before I spend the housekeeping on more guitar music.

BTW, for any I've missed, I'm going to go back through the thread at my leisure and search for the ones that don't have links, so thanks all.

Early Belle & Sebastian thieves from is inspired by Nick Drake too, particularly 'If You're Feeling Sinister'.

policywonk · 27/06/2008 23:41

Mm, I always had the Bluetones down as sub-Stone Roses. I like 'Slight Return' though.

Don't forget Fleet Foxes too. You might have to remortgage.

ThursdayNext · 27/06/2008 23:46

Kathryn Williams is rather lovely

harpomarx · 27/06/2008 23:52

nice link, dadada.

I'm going to throw a curve ball now policywonk... do you do brazilian?

love Brazilian acoustic guitar music. Am swooning as I watch the clip above.

winestein · 28/06/2008 00:00

You wanted classic. You wanted guitar... Well, here they are.

Just not necessarily intertwined....

policywonk · 28/06/2008 00:00

winestein, love the clip. But most of all, I love this po-faced comment by rjkahlon (1 hour ago) 'This isn't their best song. Their best song was A Day in the Life or Strawberry Fields Forever. Across the Universe was a great one also.'

harpomarx · 28/06/2008 00:05

yes, tell the kid to play a better song, ffs
