I was listening to 'Way to Blue' in the car today, and thinking: I love the acoustic guitar, and I love the English-folky vibe. But I farking hate Nick Drake's voice so it spoils it a bit.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Also classical acoustic guitar stuff, like the Orange Joooooth thingy.

I theng yew.

The Starsky and Hutch Theme Tune guy? I mean, I like it, but it's not exactly acoustic...

Chris Newman

He talks on this clip for almost three mins, but if you fast forward, you will hear some very nice playing.

cheesesarnie · 26/06/2008 21:52

mawbroon · 26/06/2008 21:58

Thanks for those clips - I'm off to bed now but will listen tomorrow.

Richard Thompson, esp if you like english folky stuff.

HermanMunster · 27/06/2008 10:30

whoever suggested sufjan stevens, very good choice.

i'd add iron&wine, lenard cohen, john cale to that list.

AllFallDown · 27/06/2008 16:46

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago.
Really beautiful stuff.

pointydog · 27/06/2008 16:56

iron and wine, lovely stuff, yes.

Orange Juice, classical acounstic? Are they?

pointydog · 27/06/2008 16:58

d'ya like devendra banhart?

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/06/2008 19:17

I do !

policywonk · 27/06/2008 20:10

Any recommendations for particular Devandra tracks?

Pointy, I was making a lame joke about the Concierto de Aranjuez, which is a famous classical guitar thing. (I do like Orange Juice though.)

Tim Hardin

winestein · 27/06/2008 20:40

Oh goodness. Acoustic guitar music? NO WONDER you sit in the middle lane of the motorway wearing your slippers whilst smoking a pipe (with a cushion on your back parcel shelf I'll wager).

Here. This should blow the cobwebs off.

policywonk · 27/06/2008 20:52

LOL winey, you beast. I do listen to loud music sometimes, but am feeling a bit doleful at the moment and want something to suit my mood... I've even been driving in the inside lane...

I wonder if you'd like Rodrigo y Gabriela. No whiny vocals here!

policywonk · 27/06/2008 21:49

OOoh yes, that's FANTASTIC marina. Thanks.

Winey, I had to turn that off . Is this what traffic experts listen to at work? It would explain a thing or two about the Kingston one-way system.

Devendra - I love the instrumentation and arrangements but not keen on the vocals.

Can anyone suggest particular tracks for Iron and Wine, Richard Thomson, Tim Hedrin?

I am already on to Guillemots, but thanks . I can't listen to 'Field of Gold', it makes me sob. James Taylor - ah yes, that one - again, I'm not too keen on his voice (God I'm picky). I do like Carole King if that helps?

Declan O'Rourke reminded me of 'Forever and Ever' by Julio Iglesias (in a good way).

Chris Newman was great - any particular albums mawbroon?

Know what you mean Wonk.

If I am feeling particularly introspective I listen to Kate Bush, but she doesn't fit your bill, and neither do any of the acoustic metal tracks I know and love. Ella Fitzgerald is my biggest indulgence. Shame you didn't have an inkling for sombre jazz vocal.. could have helped you there!

Wisteria · 27/06/2008 21:58

Wine - haven't forgotten about our proposed walk, things have been really messy here but I'm still lurking

winestein · 27/06/2008 21:59

X-posts!

I listen to it on the way to work... but only if Terry Wogan isn;t doing the Radio 2 breakfast show. It's probably the drugs I take that make me come up with Kingston One-Way Systems
