Former hardcore raver having a mid life crisis pushing 40

Age 19 I met DH at uni, both off our faces on Es and to be honest we had a bloody lovely time raving it up at hard trance and drum n bass clubs, drinking in pubs, etc. Fast forward 20 years and we are married with 2 kids and live each other, however he's now tee total and quite insular. I will launch myself onto any available dance floor but as my taste is quite niche (tidy boys, breeze n styles etc) I'm usually not feeling it if we go out.

So I cane it at the gym with my headphones on and am now quite fit 🙃 I just yearn for a proper club or festival to suit MY tastes. I'm nearly 40 and work bloody hard during the week. DH is currently peed off as I've spent all evening with my headphones on but music is life!

Aw no, I have to dig this clip out again

I'm 46. I wouldn't know where to go. But clubbing is in a decline is it? I am from the era of Ministry etc.

I told someone I was at the first Creamfields and he acted like it was historic!

GeneLovesJezebel · 12/04/2022 21:31

I don’t go to clubs, I’d rather go to bed and read, but I do put my iPods in when I’m cooking/cleaning and turn it up to 11.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 12/04/2022 21:40

I go hard on the treadmill at the gym, with my invisalign retainer in otherwise I chew my face off 😆 I do a cleaning spree once in a while and attack the house with good results. I guess what I'm missing is the buzz and connection with others and dancing on a packed dance floor. Is middle aged day clubbing a thing? It should be. Maybe I've found my business niche.

I'll come but only if we can have E. Only thing I really miss about my teenage drug taking days, ecstasy is bloody lovely!

Decided when I retire I'm going to be old and irresponsible, so maybe I can round up some more of you and we can have Silver Raves. Daytime would be fine Grin

GeneLovesJezebel · 12/04/2022 21:44

Yes, a club where you can have a mug of tea and be on your way home by 9pm 🤣

DowningStreetParty · 12/04/2022 21:51

I’ll come and we can probably persuade Annie Mac to play?

I do wish I could have one more blow out like the good old days! (Minus the hangover!!) Me & hubby had the best times raving, partying, seshoning! Hes also now a tee totaller! I can still drink a few but couldnt imagine dropping an E at 40yrs old! Lol

I'm there!
Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 12/04/2022 22:07

Thing is I get all high on the treadmill munching my chops but nobody to share it with! Friends are of another era or genre. Kids are too young to take drugging and that would be worthy of social care referrals. I'm a responsible citizen, tax payer, primary teacher, put my bins out etc but where is the bloody fun??! I want to dance for 12 hours in a tent and feel like shit the next day but nobody wants to do it with me and I'm too old 😭😭😭

There are loads of events/parties for middle aged ravers, we're not dead yet! Tidy Boys are doing a weekender in Jul in Prestayn. Go! I can get you some pills 😆

EmmaH2022 · 12/04/2022 22:16

OP, I don't know what "munching my chops" means?

Sorry to say, I'd love a dancefloor but it has to be local!

2DogsOnMySofa · 12/04/2022 22:17

My friend goes to London quite often for clubs 'for old people' they start at midday, and finish around 10pm and are aimed at people in their 40s, old school raver types. I'll see if I can find the details out

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 12/04/2022 22:19

Fuuuuck I want to go to Tidy but ill be on my own. Is that sad? Or dangerous? Or awesome?

OP posts:
Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 12/04/2022 22:22

I actually messaged the Tidy Boys this evening to ask if they would DJ at a private party for me. Unsurprisingly there was no response 🤣

If there is a Mrs Tidy on here, wife of Amadeus or Andy, you lucky bugger, please direct them to their messages and get them to say YES to my party for tired teachers in need of joy xx

OP posts:
Hoolihan · 12/04/2022 22:23

Definitely not dangerous or sad, maybe a little bit lonely I guess. Is there really no-one you could persuade?

MissStarry · 12/04/2022 22:24

Omg I miss those days! Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, Obsession, Q club, Bagleys, Sanctuary and The Drome!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

BigGreen · 12/04/2022 22:24

Omg Before Midnight is genius! Thanks for the link.

BigGreen · 12/04/2022 22:25

Haha The Drome! Memories....

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 12/04/2022 22:26

It’s not a mid life crisis….
I totally get it…
Can you find some like minded folk and go out raving as in proper raving?! Does it have to be a midday thing?!
You’re not too old for it!

RickyZooom · 12/04/2022 22:32

OP the raves never stopped! There’s loads of nights/festivals on that cater for the older raver. Just follow the DJ’s you like on social media and you’ll see where they’re playing.

I’m not sure how you’d dance to hardhouse these days though, it sounds so fast to me! I’d be knackered after about an hour Grin probably explains why I was skinny in my youth!

But yeah, I know loads of people in their 40’s still clubbing. Including myself (when I can get a babysitter!)

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 12/04/2022 22:32

Yaaaassss to Annie Mac
I'm hoping quite soon we can do virtual reality and transport ourselves into a club a la San Junipero of Black Mirror
I shall spend my 80s and 90s off my tits at Slinky in Bournemouth talking to randoms in the toilets, forgetting how to wee and stomping on the dancefloor for 10 hours with no hanging comedown.

Is this it? Really?

OP posts:
Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 12/04/2022 22:34

I just need to find an event, book a train and go. No need for drugs. Music and water us all I need

why is it even a question?
Just go. I've been going to gigs on my own since I was 15 and I'm now 57 Ok not all the time of course but I'll be dammed if I miss out.
