Former hardcore raver having a mid life crisis pushing 40

Age 19 I met DH at uni, both off our faces on Es and to be honest we had a bloody lovely time raving it up at hard trance and drum n bass clubs, drinking in pubs, etc. Fast forward 20 years and we are married with 2 kids and live each other, however he's now tee total and quite insular. I will launch myself onto any available dance floor but as my taste is quite niche (tidy boys, breeze n styles etc) I'm usually not feeling it if we go out.

So I cane it at the gym with my headphones on and am now quite fit 🙃 I just yearn for a proper club or festival to suit MY tastes. I'm nearly 40 and work bloody hard during the week. DH is currently peed off as I've spent all evening with my headphones on but music is life!

I'm 43 and I'm a regular raver. I was a hardcore dancer 95-98

Much prefer Trance or hard house these days

There is a Mrs Tidy and she's called Angie btw

Only day tickets I believe are available as the weekender packages sold out very early. Great DJS, just not a huge fan of their weekenders tbh

However I can recommend Bring the noise at the mill in digbeth next month, the line up is incredible.

Music is therapy for me, I cannot imagine my life without it!

Bluetowelsandflannels · 12/04/2022 23:31

I'm mid 50's and still love the music! All that Spiral Tribe, Bedlam etc omg it was so wonderful

RagzRebooted · 12/04/2022 23:32

DH is always fondly reminiscing about his raver days. I'm a bit younger, missed the rave scene and never got hugely into clubbing (we used to do our Es at home and then spend the nights roaming the village green!) before I had my first baby at 20. Always felt a little jealous at what I missed!

I do plan to re-visit my youth when they all leave home though!

StrongUE · 12/04/2022 23:55

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers

I go hard on the treadmill at the gym, with my invisalign retainer in otherwise I chew my face off 😆 I do a cleaning spree once in a while and attack the house with good results. I guess what I'm missing is the buzz and connection with others and dancing on a packed dance floor. Is middle aged day clubbing a thing? It should be. Maybe I've found my business niche.
Look on FB. Somehow, such a group found me on FB last year and for couple of months I was on there 'reminiscing' and planning my w/end escape to a club/rave/woods- yes, it's happening all over UK. I do not have any of my clubbing friends in my life anymore and, in the end, gave up on the idea, left FB group, as it was really effecting my sanity, and got back to 'normal' life and state of mind :) Sorry, can not remember the name of FB group.
WeSellAnyBra · 13/04/2022 04:12

I was a massive raver in my teens and clubbed & pubbed well into my 30s.

I still LOVE the music (bit older than you and different tastes - more post-acid house, hardcore, jungle, garage and soulful house).

But I gave up drugs in my 20s and am tee total in my 40s. I absolutely cannot be arsed with clubs these days and was never a festival girl, so I only occasionally get to have a good dance at house parties my old crew throw very rarely.

I blast my music in the car on the way home from work most days to de-stress, though, and always, always when I’m cleaning. No headphones - my teen kids are well versed in my ‘tuuuuuuunes’ now!

I’ll never stop loving the music!

[quote DowningStreetParty]I’ll come and we can probably persuade Annie Mac to play?

I love this!

I went to a festival with a group called Middle Aged Rave and they were handing out tea bags with "oooh a nice cup of tea" written on them.
Festivals, seaside bars (Margate, Worthing for example), Butlins weekenders... there's still loads going on, a lot of old ravers are enjoying a second clubbing childhood now the kids are grown up.
And then there's Raver tots etc if you want to bring the kids. Camp Bestival is brilliant.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 13/04/2022 06:40

@DowningStreetParty - I didn’t start the group, but joined it.
I guess you could either do something similar via MN, but I don’t think it’s very safe.

Before you’re included in our WApp group, you have to attend a f2f pub session.

There are garden landscapers, solicitors, designers, teachers, psychologists, project managers. It’s a women only group.

We keep it local, catch trains together, quite often have lunch first, look out for each other at the venue, and generally adopt a group mentality.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 13/04/2022 06:41

Try via local FB groups, or NextDoor?

Alcoh · 13/04/2022 07:02

Nearly 50 and DH and I are off to Tomorrowland and Creamfields this year :-) We dance with the kids and have a right laugh.

Alcoh · 13/04/2022 07:03

Not our kids I hasten to add. Just with the kids. They laugh at us and we laugh with them.

Sisisimone · 13/04/2022 07:10

I'm a bit older than you. Was there from the very beginning of acid house, the real summer of love 1988. God, such good times. I live in Liverpool and there are regular club reunion nights for us old timers. Went to a Quadrant Park one not long ago . Always such a brilliant atmosphere. I hope you find someone to go with OP. Any old friends that might enjoy it? I'm still in touch with a few people from my clubbing days so we get together for the occasional blow out Smile

JerkintheMerkin · 13/04/2022 07:10

I'm 48 and off to Tobacco Docks on Friday to dance my socks off to Louie Vega (MAW) and the rest and I can't bloody wait. I'll stop dancing when I'm dead.

Traumdeuter · 13/04/2022 07:20

@2DogsOnMySofa

My friend goes to London quite often for clubs 'for old people' they start at midday, and finish around 10pm and are aimed at people in their 40s, old school raver types. I'll see if I can find the details out
I’ve been to a few like this, 1pm start, no entry after 4pm, finish at 10pm. Perfect for me!
Worldgonecrazy · 13/04/2022 07:43

Butlins music weekends are good fun. There are a lot of very drunk people which can be a bit off putting, but also a lot of people there reliving their youth. I noticed a couple of Ibiza themed weekends popped up.

0atbiscuit · 13/04/2022 07:49

Come to Brighton. We still have free parties on the downs in summer til the early hours

HighlandCowbag · 13/04/2022 07:56

There was a 90s revival thing at Sheffield last year, a festival but just 1 night I think. My mate went and had a blast, me and dh are considering it this year.

We had a mad night out just before Christmas, all the old ravers we used to knock about with, might have had a bit more than G and Ts and it was fab. But felt like death for 3 days afterwards and we got bloody covid we think. But was just about worth it 👌

OfstedOffred · 13/04/2022 08:29

The blade attitude towards drugs on here is a bit horrifying.

Ecstasy/MDMA is a class A drug for a reason. it can have some horrifying side effects, cause long term addiction and health issues, and kill you.

It's not fab, lovely, or cool.

BatonRouge · 13/04/2022 08:45

My people! My Ravers! Off to Return to Rage at Heaven on Easter Sunday and I'm beyond excited......History of Jungle with Fabio & Grooverider plus a Hardcore Core room. A night of pure fantasy where dreams become real 😜

0atbiscuit · 13/04/2022 08:45

😱

crossstitchingnana · 13/04/2022 09:11

I used to go to Creation in Kings Cross, or any field with a sound system. Early 90s. Or a car park, disused offices. Zap in Brighton, Ministry in London. Fat Boy Slim on the beach. Ahhhh those were the days.

Went clubbing recently, in Brighton, first time in over 20 years. It was a crowd of 20 somethings AND middle- aged ravers like us. It was brilliant.

Sisisimone · 13/04/2022 09:20

Oh I loved Fabio and Grooverider. I'm so jealous
EmmaH2022 · 13/04/2022 09:33

Any recs for daytime clubs please?

OP my friend went to Glastonbury alone. Couldn't move for people chatting to her, made friends, kept in touch etc.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 13/04/2022 16:49

Pushing 40 - that’s hardly old 😂

I’m mid 30s and my husband mid 40s - good few mates pushing 50

We all go to club nights and festivals when we can (these days a few times a year!)

BatonRouge · 13/04/2022 16:52

@Sisisimone will raise a gun finger salute
