Age 19 I met DH at uni, both off our faces on Es and to be honest we had a bloody lovely time raving it up at hard trance and drum n bass clubs, drinking in pubs, etc. Fast forward 20 years and we are married with 2 kids and live each other, however he's now tee total and quite insular. I will launch myself onto any available dance floor but as my taste is quite niche (tidy boys, breeze n styles etc) I'm usually not feeling it if we go out.

So I cane it at the gym with my headphones on and am now quite fit 🙃 I just yearn for a proper club or festival to suit MY tastes. I'm nearly 40 and work bloody hard during the week. DH is currently peed off as I've spent all evening with my headphones on but music is life!

We go to the Butlin's weekenders

They are fabulous. First time I went, I woke up the next day and could barely move my feet from the pain of dancing all night Grin

Totally out of the habit of. We are 50+ and there are all sorts of age groups (all adults only!) there but you can totally dance all night and lose yourself!

Is middle aged day clubbing a thing?

I wish it was, with plenty of seats, no queues & air con.

We just do parties instead.

anothermansmother · 13/04/2022 17:43

Where in the country are you? I've been to a few over the last 12 months. Yes I miss the music, people and atmosphere. I'm tee total too but still love to dance.

Please make day clubbing a thing! I am 41, had my 40th in lockdown so planning a big 90s themed room-above-a-pub party for this summer.
You're all invited Smile

louderthan · 13/04/2022 20:13

I also managed to snap up one of the last tickets to see the Prodigy at Brixton Academy in July. I'll probably have to go on my own but I don't care!!

Hoolihan · 13/04/2022 20:28

We are going out tomorrow night! Very excited. There's actually loads going on in Brighton though apparently a bit of an ecstasy shortage along with everything else 🤣

Flapjak · 13/04/2022 20:41

'Forgetting how to wee' 🤣 had forgotten that feeling

GappyValley · 13/04/2022 20:47

How old are your DCs..?

We took ours to the Big Fish Little Fish family raves…

Daytime raves with proper DJs from our youth, but at acceptable volume for kids, with bubbles and craft tables and lots of people dancing with babies in slings

It’s absolutely brilliant and you can spot the other old ravers a mile off from their dancing
You give each other a knowing nod, swig your wine from a plastic half pint glass and remember the good old days for a few mins

Fupoffyagrasshole · 13/04/2022 20:53

Day clubbing is absolutely a thing

Have you been to printworks?

yourestandingonmyneck · 13/04/2022 21:21

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers

Thing is I get all high on the treadmill munching my chops but nobody to share it with! Friends are of another era or genre. Kids are too young to take drugging and that would be worthy of social care referrals. I'm a responsible citizen, tax payer, primary teacher, put my bins out etc but where is the bloody fun??! I want to dance for 12 hours in a tent and feel like shit the next day but nobody wants to do it with me and I'm too old 😭😭😭
Munching your chops? Are you doing pills on the treadmill? Ok, that's a new one on me and sounds dangerous / a bit daft?

Other than that though, I think what you're feeling is very normal at that age, and particularly in light of all the restrictions the past two years.

Yes, go to gigs on your own, and as a pp said, get involved in the comments section of all your favourite dj's comments sections etc.

Enjoy GinStarSmile

@ByeByeMissAmericanPie

I’ve found a group of girls/ women from my local town for raves. We meet once a month in town for a drink and chat to check we’re not weirdos and then post stuff on the WhatsApp group of stuff we’re interested in, and see if anyone wants to go.

It all started with a post on the local FB

8 of us went to Printworks 2-3 weeks ago. 6,000 people appaz.

Bloody brilliant. Managed 38,000 steps that day. Could hardly move the next morning.

Some local, some London, some live music. Complete mix.

I’m mid 50s…ish. 😜

This sounds amazing!
oldraver1247 · 13/04/2022 21:34

My people!!!! used to love peach, frantic, strawberry sundae, catch22, bagleys and twisted back in the day

Also love the tidy boys, lee haslam , skol, Rob tissera etc etc.

Mid 40s now and no crew around/interested in raving so sad time. But have manage to find a few for this....can't bloody wat!!!

So true! Have been to a few of these things and you can definitely pick the old caners out of the crowd!

DSGR · 14/04/2022 00:41

Ah love this thread. Spent my youth out of it, happy times. Must look up day raves and big fish little fish!

maddy68 · 14/04/2022 10:38

I am a late comer to raving. I'm 50. You would be surprised at how many older ravers there are.
Some of my best friends are 30 yr olds

Pick the right place

maddy68 · 14/04/2022 10:39

I know the feeling 49 🤦🏼‍♀️ loved raving 💃 earphones I really high and dance round the house 😂

C25kBecky · 14/04/2022 21:44

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers

I go hard on the treadmill at the gym, with my invisalign retainer in otherwise I chew my face off 😆 I do a cleaning spree once in a while and attack the house with good results. I guess what I'm missing is the buzz and connection with others and dancing on a packed dance floor. Is middle aged day clubbing a thing? It should be. Maybe I've found my business niche.
There's a garage voucher and dnb brunch. If you Google there might be your music brunch, if not, start one!

It is a thing. A famous female DJ has recently set up a club for former clubbers who now need to be up for kids/school/work. It starts early and ends around midnight. There's one in Manchester too, run by a male DJ. Read about them the other day but can't remember their names. I'll try and track down the info for you.
