Can't decide my favourite, either Disturbed's 'Sound of Silence' or Chrissie Hynde's 'Creep' both much better than original! What are yours?

OP posts:
Sgtmajormummy · 26/03/2018 22:54

Tom Jones singing “Kiss” by Prince. Oh yeah!
Jon Martyn “May you Never... “ by Van Morrison.
And “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel (?) the Hawaiian guy on the ukulele.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/03/2018 23:13

Sorry, please scrap the middle one! It’s a JM original.

BunsForTea · 27/03/2018 08:35

YY, the Ramones' Baby I Love You is brilliant!

Oh, and TomTom Club doing Under the Boardwalk, though I think The Drifters' original pips it.

MrsDilber · 27/03/2018 09:03

REM's Wichita Lineman.

DickTERFin · 27/03/2018 15:47

Bastilles cover of No Angel (no scrubs).

DickTERFin · 27/03/2018 15:58

OH And a-ha’s Crying in the rain is better than the original.

PonderLand · 27/03/2018 16:03

Ben Howard- call me maybe.

I used to hate the song but I fancy him so much in this video. Plus he's properly flirting with the cellist and I imagine it's me Grin

PonderLand · 27/03/2018 16:04

Link fail!!

LostArt · 27/03/2018 16:10

The stranglers version of walk on by.

Johnny cash - one, personal Jesus and hurt.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 27/03/2018 16:20

Cat Power, "Satisfaction"

woodhill · 27/03/2018 17:29

David Bowie's pin up,album is brilliant as is Tracey Ulmans

Particularly

They don't know

buckleten · 27/03/2018 17:49

I like River City People's version of California Dreaming

Rachyhayes · 27/03/2018 20:44

Nirvana the man who sold the world

FreshTart · 27/03/2018 21:54

Luther Vandross version of Superstar

ChocolateCrunch · 27/03/2018 22:09

Roxy Music - Jealous Guy

LemonScentedStickyBat · 27/03/2018 22:15

Sonic Youth doing Superstar

JaneJeffer · 28/03/2018 00:16

I like Gerard Way's version of Superstar. It's so emotional.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 28/03/2018 00:35

So many great ones, so many to look up

Agree re Leona Lewis, Florence, and Ryan Adams

For me, Usher - Pumped up Kicks. I don't even like Usher but that's amazing.

James McMorrow - Higher Love. maybe linked to how much I enjoyed that scene in Elementary though.

Yesitsme1 · 28/03/2018 00:57

Birdy's version of People help the people and Chris Cornell doing Nothing compares to you, so beautiful Sad

mathanxiety · 28/03/2018 04:29

Johnny Cash - 'Personal Jesus'. Brought out another dimension in the song imo. Brilliant arrangement.

The Byrds 'Mr Tambourine Man'.

KD Lang - 'The Air That I Breathe'.

Linda Ronstadt's version of 'Desperado'.

Gary Jules - 'Mad World' (originally by Tears for Fears).

Cowboy Junkies - 'Sweet Jane'.

Johnny Cash - 'Ain't no Grave' - sublime.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 28/03/2018 04:33

Pet Shop Boys - You Were Always On My Mind

and yes to the Futureheads, loved that cover of Hounds of Love

FairfaxAikman · 28/03/2018 04:38

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain doing Smells like Teen Spirit

Also love pretty much any cover by the Piano Guys

Ataterf · 28/03/2018 05:14

Most of my favourites have been listed already, but I'd add Kirsty MacColl - New England, and Pet Shop Boys - Go West (another old gimmer).

Strokethefurrywall · 28/03/2018 05:36

I love that Disturbed - Sound Of Silence has had so many votes here!
Also the Land Of Confusion if just amazing.

Was always a fan of Summer Breeze covered by Type O Negative

YaBasic · 28/03/2018 08:35

I like both versions but nominate:
You're not alone Mads Langer

(the original was by Olive) I can also hear elements of Sia's Breathe me in it

talking of which The Wind and the Wave do a beautiful job of Chandelier

Also I adore the Lykke Li original but the cover was interesting
I follow rivers Triggerfinger

Cyndi did the brilliant Prince cover with When you were mine (her backing singer always reminds me of his version)

Frank Black's Down in the hole is totally different from the Stones

I also liked him and his wife's Cure covers contribution

Live lounge favourites:
Goldfrapp covering Not over yet
The Automatic covering Golddigger
Miley Cyrus covering Summertime sadness

Long before Live Lounge I enjoyed Dermot O'Leary's Re-covered on BBC choice. Radiohead fans will hate it but Liberty X's version of high and dry stuck with me

Doves also did a decent straight cover of the Smiths please please let me get what I want

Finally Seu Jorge's soundtrack to This Life Aquatic of Bowie covers should get a mention...whole album here
