Can't decide my favourite, either Disturbed's 'Sound of Silence' or Chrissie Hynde's 'Creep' both much better than original! What are yours?

OP posts:

I love Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah too.

Also Only Love Will Break Your Heart by St Etienne.

And Mad World from Donnie Darko.

Years ago Oasis did their cover of I Am the Walrus on Jools Holland. It was spine-tingling. Best I've ever seen Liam G perform.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/03/2018 16:33

The Sundays- Wild Horses, I like the original too though.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 26/03/2018 16:36

I came here to write....
Bastille 'we can't stop' live lounge cover of Miley Cyprus song
... but saw someone already did. Thought I’d second it x

fabtasticmrpox · 26/03/2018 16:39

Matt Cardel - your face

Sue Boyle - wild horses

earlofhell · 26/03/2018 16:41

I read somewhere that your man who wrote ' hurt' said it felt like watching your ex girlfriend walking down the street with a better looking new boyfriend when he heard johnny cash singing it 😂

grannycake · 26/03/2018 16:42

Frankie Miller doing John Lennon's Jealous Guy. Even John said it was the definitive version

MarklahMarklah · 26/03/2018 16:45

Just like Heaven - Dinosaur Jr
or
Polly - Amanda Palmer

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 26/03/2018 16:45

David Gray's version of Say Hello, Wave Goodbye (Soft Cell)

JaneJeffer · 26/03/2018 16:49

The Futureheads - Hounds of Love

dontticklethetoad · 26/03/2018 16:57

Oh jane that futureheads cover was going to be on my list too!

Agree with Johnny Cash cover of Hurt.

The 4 chord song is hilarious!

I'm going to say David Gray 'I think its going to rain today'.

ggirl · 26/03/2018 17:00

not the worlds best cover ever ....best but I loved this

Halo by Gary Lightbody from the film Cake

loved the film

beasternunny · 26/03/2018 17:14

Cake - Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

jumpingonsomebodyelsestrain · 26/03/2018 17:18

There are many fantastic covers out there, but my absolute favourites are:-*
*
The Kills - Pale Blue Eyes
Placebo- Where Is My Mind
Nirvana - Molly's Lips/The Man Who Sold The World
Japan- Second That Emotion

You can so tell my age from those tracks!!!!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/03/2018 17:23

An old one (because I'm old) Sinead O'Connors version of Nothing Compares 2 U.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 26/03/2018 17:25

Two Jackson covers- I want you back by Graham Parker
And Smooth Criminal by.....arrgh I can't remember!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/03/2018 17:34

Alien Ant Farm OhWhatFuckery?

ElliePhillips · 26/03/2018 17:36

The Vines - 'Ms Jackson' (the OutKast song)

It is the most amazing cover and I'm so upset that I can't find a CD copy anywhere.

I also love Ryan Adams 'Wonderwall'. I think even Noel said it is better than his original.

dontticklethetoad · 26/03/2018 17:38

Ooh Placebo running up that hill!

ElliePhillips · 26/03/2018 17:41

Oh yes I love that Placebo cover @dontticklethetoad Molko's voice is perfect on it.

Placebo do great Covers. I love their version of Big Mouth Strikes Again. Brian updates the lyrics from "Walkman" to "Discman" as they recorded it in the 1990s Grin

SadieContrary · 26/03/2018 17:42

Valerie by Amy Winehouse is better than the original IMO

notacooldad · 26/03/2018 17:42

My favourite covers are:
Beatles version of Twist and Shout
Nirvana cover of Love Buzz
Metallica cover of Turn the page ( although the video is uncomfortable to watch)
HIm's cover of Wicked Game
Alien Ant farm's Smooth Criminal is a favourite cover as well.

NukaColaGirl · 26/03/2018 17:43

Seether, Careless Whisper.

NukaColaGirl · 26/03/2018 17:46

Linkin Park Rolling In The Deep makes me sob.

ladymelbourne1926 · 26/03/2018 17:48

The cover of Hurt by Johnny cash

Backingvocals · 26/03/2018 17:54

There's a great slot all about this on the Robert Elms show on Radio London on Thursdays - about 12pm. They take a song and the cover and then discuss which one is better. This week was Simon & Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water vs Aretha Franklin's version. The original won this time (rightly imho) though it doesn't always and the discussion is always great.

I love any cover of a Bob Dylan song on the basis that the songs are great but the singing is bloody awful. So Nina Simone doing I Shall Be Released is fab.
