Heart "All I wanna do is make love to you" - where she shags a stranger just to get pregnant.

Or the incomparable Hazzard. Always had my suspicions about what he did with her down by that river.

Anyone else like songs like this??? Grin

Johnny Cash 'A boy named Sue'
Quite an obscure one but 'Tough shit Wilson' by Splodgenessabounds is bloody epic. It parodies all those country and western songs that tell a sad story.
love it

huffythethreadslayer · 12/12/2010 10:55

I loved Touch me in the Morning by Diana Ross when I was 7 or 8. Thought it was so pretty. Still have a soft spot now, even though my leanings are much heavier now.

Love the Arctic Monkeys too - take your pick with their stuff. Love that it sounds so lifelike. Only band I know that could rhyme 'two bouncers, one of em's a scary un, it's his way or no way, totalitarian'. Love that line :)

The taxi ride one is good too, but my head's too full of shopping lists to remember what it's called. It just conjours up images from my youth (even though that was a long, long time ago).

ooh, yes, I love Christmas Wrapping too!
Grin

The Day Before You Came is crap, imo.

There's a quite gorgeous love song from the 80s called 'Uptown Uptempo Woman' by Randy Eidelman which fits the story song genre quite well.

Dunoon · 12/12/2010 17:42

Hurricane by Bob Dylan

There must be many more but I can't think of them atm.

Dunoon · 12/12/2010 17:46

Oh just remembered Bruce Springsteen The River.

melezka · 12/12/2010 18:14

This is such a nice way to expand my musical tastes...

PuppyMonkey · 12/12/2010 18:20

It's lovely isn't it!

MrsKitty · 12/12/2010 18:58

Glad to have found some more Xmas Wrapping fans - I always get blank looks when I mention it to friends/family as my favourite Christmas song! Hmm.

joydivisionovengloves · 12/12/2010 20:10

Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska
Bruce Springsteen - Highway Patrolman
Kenny Rogers/The Killers - Ruby Don't take your Love to Town

MrsColumbo · 12/12/2010 20:31

No MrsKitty, you are not on your own - Christmas Rapping/Wrapping is my favourite Christmas song too! "O damn, guess what I forgot"
That one by The Eagles - is it Lying Eyes?

CaptainNancy · 12/12/2010 20:31

I I was coming on to mention "Queen and the Soldier" by Suzanne Vega, but ChaosTR and aBrightStarWithFestiveWays (are you normally darkstar? cos we definitely have same taste in music if so I seem to recall) got there before me!

I love that album so much... all the songs on it are fantastic.

huffy and mrskitty - DH LOVES the christmas wrapping songs- we have it on lots at this time of year (it is so very catchy, I find myself humming it all the time)... but yes- no-one seems to know it at all.

Loads of the Killers songs would fall into this category- the whole of 'Hot Fuss" album is a long story arc...

CaptainNancy · 12/12/2010 20:31

Argh- x-posts MrsColumbo!

ChristmasTrulyReigns · 12/12/2010 20:47

Captain, That album is absolutely one of the best albums ever made - but Blush I haven't listened to it for ages.

On a similar(ish) note does anyone like Martha's Harbour?

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 12/12/2010 20:47

CaptainNancy yep, that's me Xmas Grin

Mrs Columbo I love Lying Eyes too.

whatagradeA · 12/12/2010 20:48

Little White Bull

CaptainNancy · 12/12/2010 20:54

Oh- I love All About Eve!

missmiss · 12/12/2010 20:55

A lot of Johnny Cash songs. I like 'Hung My Head', which is about a boy who borrows his brother's gun and accidentally kills a man.

MrsColumbo · 12/12/2010 21:07

I'd forgoten Martha's Harbour - loved that one! Wasn't that the song that the miming on TOTP went badly wrong?Smile

minxofmancunia · 12/12/2010 21:19

I love All About Eve too, yes it was MrsColumbo I remember it well Smile

I'm afraid to say it and it's the ultimate in complete cheese but my favourite story song is "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by MeatLoaf, I bloody love it especially the duet bit at the end with the woman in the white satin Grin
