How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

"Not very often"

"But now often!"

"Once a year"

Which is once more a year than I personally think about it

Ponderingwindow · 13/09/2023 01:00

Asked DH.
he thought the question was bizarre
he only thinks about it if someone mentions something related.

😁😁

I think about plate tectonics much more frequently than I think about the RE!! Always when pondering human impact on change vs Mother Earth doing her thang.

addler · 13/09/2023 01:24

'Not as much as I'd like to' Hmm

Katbum · 13/09/2023 01:49

He said ‘6 to 9 times per day’.

Mamanyt · 13/09/2023 01:58

Oh, weII, my OH is a cat. She mostIy thinks about treats, and the best spot to nap in the sun. I doubt that my first wouId have known the Roman Empire if it had bitten him in the arse. The second, though, mentioned it maybe a coupIe of times a month. And everything he thought, he bIurted out. NO internaI censor at aII on that one!

JoanOfAllTrades · 13/09/2023 02:02

DH just called me a weirdo for asking such a stupid question because he said he doesn’t think about the Roman Empire at all, unless someone mentions it, he sees something on the television, or in an article.

TBF, he originally said “oh, at least once a day
I replied “really?” (in very excited tones)
DH said “no, not really, you weirdo! Why would I? (I was suitably chastened and read him the OP!!!!)

RogersOrganismicProcess · 13/09/2023 05:19

I can’t get back to sleep, so I’ve just woken DH and asked him: he says only when he’s peeling eggs, then rolled over to face me and said “but the Ottoman Empire is pretty much daily!” 😯

Thethuthinang · 13/09/2023 05:44

Husband says about every other day. But it was hard to get him to answer because he kept saying things like "Brittania I am Rome" and "might Rome."

Thethuthinang · 13/09/2023 05:52

Now he's trying to see how many Emperors he can name. Got up to 18.

Poppysmom22 · 13/09/2023 05:59

Ok I asked. 'Erm never why would I, what a weird question. Why would I?' Then 'if you mean as in plumbing then every day'

Bonelly · 13/09/2023 06:27

Lol! For the males in my life I feel that they are in a continual mental play of the nazis. I think about the Romans at least a couple of times a month because I'm thinking about the fall of the Roman Empire and current dismantling of uk 😃.

tobyj · 13/09/2023 06:31

This is just so interesting. When people say they think about it, what do they mean?? Is it like an extended imagination/fantasy of daydreaming what it would be like to be a Roman? Or random questions (I wonder whether the Romans made cheese)? Or because you're reminded by something on TV or in a book? Or you actively sit down to read or look up something about the Romans? Or you just suddenly think - the Romans, hey they were interesting? I don't think I think about any historical period in this way, certainly not regularly. I'm beginning to think my brain is weird!!

TodayInahurry · 13/09/2023 06:31

I live near two Roman roads, drive on them most days. Always think how straight they are!

BlackJumpsuit · 13/09/2023 06:37

Thank you for this thread OP.

I love it. This is what I'm here for.

Now for a day of trying to catch myself thinking about the Roman Empire.

My partner (quoted earlier - 'daily/or at least every other day and if not that then the Byzantium) saw nothing unusual at all in being asked.

In fact I think he's been waiting his whole life for someone to ask him that question.

Barleycat · 13/09/2023 06:46

Just asked my DP, once or twice a week he says 😂

runningonberocca · 13/09/2023 06:54

I asked him “ it’s sporadic - maybe not at all for a couple of days and then 3 or 4 times a day “..

BitOutOfPractice · 13/09/2023 07:17

@DarkSpark you have a Mornington Crescent jumper?!

btw, Euston Square if it’s not too early to play a diagonal reverse!

Pushkinini · 13/09/2023 07:19

Just asked mine. His answer, 'Never, unless it comes up on TV or something. Why would I think of that?'

cloudglazer · 13/09/2023 07:29

"Oh quite often. A couple of times a week. Why?"

banivani · 13/09/2023 07:31

I’m surprised by the premise, if you’d said WW2 now… Everyone, ask your SO:s how often he thinks about WW2.

Oldermum84 · 13/09/2023 07:33

"a couple of times a week at least"... then went on about how amazing the Roman Empire was blah blah blah ....

I'm amazed!

EquinoxVOx · 13/09/2023 07:33

Er never, why are you asking.

At least he does have a thrusting curious mind

DinosApple · 13/09/2023 07:38

DH once a week or so.
Me daily at the moment as I'm reading about some excavations in Leicestershire and hoping to excavate at another Roman site next year.

We're both very interested in archaeology and history though.

I'm surprised at how much other people think about the Roman Empire though!

Sgtmajormummy · 13/09/2023 07:45

I got an answer straight back.
“Four or five times a week. But if you asked me about the Middle Ages, it would be twice that.”
(Kaaank, wrong answer! The Roman Empire was way cooler.)
