How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

Ffs, he's now planning some historic family days out

Honeyroar · 12/09/2023 23:07

I always thought my husband was weird or a bit of a geek to be always reading/watching things about the Roman Empire, but seems he’s completely normal!!

NoMoreAgeJokes · 12/09/2023 23:08

“At least once a week, sometimes more often, depends what mood I’m in”

Here’s where DP’s mind is. I think he’s delirious with Covid.

Argh I’m in bed and can’t be bothered to go down and ask DH and I really want to know now. I however think about it most days, it’s one of my favourite parts of history and I have a bust of Julius Caesar in the sitting room. I’m really happy to know so many people think about it too.

JuliusWho · 12/09/2023 23:12

Speaking as a man KLAXON

Hardly ever but it honestly crossed my mind just yesterday 😂The particular context, though, was remembering a game of 20 Questions played with some friends on a trip many years ago, and me wrongly guessing the Roman Empire when the answer was the Holy Roman Empire. Apparently I’m still stewing about that.

What on Earth?! 🤣🤣🤣

How often do you think people will think about us in 2000 years?

Ienjoyedthebarbiemovie · 12/09/2023 23:14

Hardly ever he said. But he does think a lot about the Egyptians

PeopleAreWeird · 12/09/2023 23:16

He said ‘What a f*ing Bizarre question’

BitOutOfPractice · 12/09/2023 23:19

@LusaBatoosa he's always trying to explain electricity to me, so when I said "science" he immediately thought it was another opportunity to make me care about it - I don't. "Amps and volts" is now our shorthand for one of his boring fascinating science chats.

As for the erections bit, I think that was his very amusing way of saying "buildings".

I have really made him sound bonkers now. He's lovely really

OrlandointheWilderness · 12/09/2023 23:19

Hardly ever apparently. Didn't ask why I wanted to know though which doesn't seem very inquisitive!

Seeingadistance · 12/09/2023 23:21

Don't have an other half, and I'm a woman - so asked myself and reckon at least 2 or 3 times a week.

Asked young adult DS - not that often.

Edited - DS has just texted back to say that actually he watched a YouTube video the other day about the Roman Empire and now that I've explained this thread agrees that "it's definitely one of the core male interests".

MillenialAvocado · 12/09/2023 23:21

DH says he thinks about the Ottoman Empire more than the Roman

Batalax · 12/09/2023 23:22

Every three weeks apparently.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/09/2023 23:23

I was going to say I don't think about it that much, but I actually did three separate times today. Or Romans at least, if not the empire specifically.

I had a meeting with a Julius, was talking about scuba diving at lunch and mentioned Baiae, and then a friend was saying she might have to have a Caesarian.

I think they just did so many things you can link them to all sorts!

SheSaidHummingbird · 12/09/2023 23:23

@DavesSpareDeckChair In that sense, I would understand all these claims that men think about it frequently. Otherwise I'm puzzled.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 12/09/2023 23:26

The economy has shrunk and this is all you think about. Young people better fix themselves up quick they will save us from ourselves.

TheMarzipanDildo · 12/09/2023 23:01

Mostly in passing, but I do think about it daily. No other half to ask and now I know why

I have an unread copy of Rubicon on my bedside table, like Mark in Peep Show.

It can be a psychic twin with my unread copy of Dynasty. I was definitely going to read it, and then I realised that the glowing review on the front cover was from Boris Johnson and I went off it a bit.

(I did finish Persian Fire though)

QuietlyWonderful · 12/09/2023 23:34

Interesting how often the question is met with 'how much have you had tonight ' and how it's then led on to:
viaducts
concrete
helmets
roads - my mum's contribution would have been ...
Before the Roman came to Rye or out to Severn strode,
The rolling English drunkard made the rolling English road.
... anti-Roman sentiment, but still in the vicinity (which brings us to Latin, the root of so many of our words)

Tessisme · 12/09/2023 23:34

DP is watching I Claudius at the moment and frequently updates me, even though I've watched it before and indeed would watch it again ... except now I don't need to. When I Claudius is not on, he still mentions the Roman Empire more often than I would like. I'll ask him tomorrow how often he thinks about it. I reckon it's a lot. I always thought he was a bit strange. Christ, maybe he's normal😆

MotherOfUnicorns4 · 12/09/2023 23:38

I’m really curious and want to ask DP. The problem is he’ll think about it often and when he’s passionate about a subject he’ll have to bore me for hours tell me all the fascinating facts for a long length of time. I do love history, but sometimes I struggle to not drift off and think of jobs I could be getting done when he gets so talkative!

momymu · 12/09/2023 23:38

Have had an argument earlier in the evening and I wasn't planning to speak to him tonight 😳 But had to ask him this question and the answer was: 'Never! Why would I?'
It's such a random question and I am quite surprised that so many people think about this often.

ColonelPine · 12/09/2023 23:40

My DH answered “it’s always at the back of my mind”

😂

I think he sounds delightful! 🤣
