How often does your OH think about the Roman Empire?

Just for fun

saw on Facebook a post saying that men think about the Roman Empire every day. The woman asked her husband and he said this was true and that he thinks about it daily. The comments was people asking their husbands how often they think about the Roman Empire with some very funny responses 😂

So, I’ll start .., I’ve just asked DH and he said “at least twice a week, why?”

would love to hear other Responses to this random question

“how often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

I’m a woman and I think about the Roman Empire multiple times per week.

But why?

Handsfullofholes · 12/09/2023 22:50

2-3 times a week!

RyanGoslingsTan · 12/09/2023 22:51

Just asked DH. At least 3 to 4 times a week. I knew that though cos he's always talking about it.

Cheirosa · 12/09/2023 22:51

This is like the ‘ask your OH if he thinks he could land a plane in an emergency’ post lol.

They all give the same answer, and it’s some variation of ‘if I had someone guiding me then probably’.

Scaraben · 12/09/2023 22:52

"How often per day, do you mean?"

Jesus, I had no idea how often he thought about the Roman Empire!

Cheirosa · 12/09/2023 22:52

DH is asleep, but I’m going to ask him about the Roman Empire in the morning!

Mistressanne · 12/09/2023 22:53

‘No more than anything else.’

I think about it whenever I’m on a nice straight road, especially if it is bordered with tall trees.
I’m also left handed so think about sinister, dexter regularly.

MindIfISlytherin · 12/09/2023 22:54

DH thinks about it twice a week. I asked him why and he said "what other empire would you be thinking about?". He thought I was mad when I said that I don't think about empires at all 🤣

Jenjen21 · 12/09/2023 22:55

I'm in work, just text my husband and he replied "about IV times a week" 🙃😃

Howlongwillthistake · 12/09/2023 22:55

DH often says in jest 'what did the Romans ever do for us?'
We live near Chester... so they come up in conversation all the time.

LetMeEnfoldYou · 12/09/2023 22:56

Just asked and his answer was;

'I think more about the republic which was defunct by 44bc. And when I say more, I mean daily.'

I mean...who the fuck knew!?

DH has his private pilot license (though it isn't current as he hasn't flown for a while) and his day job involves aviation so he would he would be able to give it a pretty good crack especially if it was a light aircraft.

TheMarzipanDildo · 12/09/2023 23:01

Mostly in passing, but I do think about it daily. No other half to ask and now I know why

I have an unread copy of Rubicon on my bedside table, like Mark in Peep Show.

We haven't got the data on this thread to come to a conclusion on that though.

If I were queen of MN the first thing I'd implement is a really good polling system linked to an graphing tool. And then I'd put up a multi dimensional poll comparing everyone's frequency of pondering various empires.

You have my vote for Queen of Mumsnet

No OH however I am amazed by the people who never think of the Roman Empire, or worse, think of a different Empire?!
What did the Mayans ever do for us eh?

My most frequent Empire based thoughts and actions involve the family arranging themselves into a tortoise formation using umbrellas when the rain is not only falling downwards but sideways

BlackJumpsuit · 12/09/2023 23:02

Daily or at least every other day apparently.

And if not that then the Byzantium.

I had a feeling.

Lentilweaver · 12/09/2023 23:03

DH has updated his reply to: Twice a year. Apparently when he thinks about Marcus Aurelius.

Hooplahooping · 12/09/2023 23:03

my husbands brain is like the flipping geography of the ancient world. All roads lead to Rome… he definitely references it at least 3 x a week. I’m going to imagine he thinks about, at least tangentially, at least 3 x a day. If we include use of Latin phrasing or etymology of romance languages. 3 x an hour.

did I mention we’re really fun…?!

VanGoghsDog · 12/09/2023 23:04

DP: "never", not a surprise.

Me: three times this week - once when I read the original FB post this thread is based on, then when Paul Sinha mentioned it on a podcast, then reading this. It's like The Game (sorry, you just lost) isn't it? In that you don't think of it unless it comes up, which it does more than you'd expect!!

DP heard the same podcast but I suspect he wasn't really listening.

"not very often" and when pressed about how often is not very often "about once a year"

I think it must be more though. We were at a photojournalism exhibition the other day; one photo was of homeless people sleeping among Roman ruins, which was a reminder of visiting there and how you can just sit and eat a sandwich on a random piece of a pillar from the forum .. which I found quite amazing at the time. Not all fenced off and labelled as they would be in the UK.

Or perhaps it was just me who was reminded..

Holdmysunhat · 12/09/2023 23:05

‘About once a week‘ apparently

StartupRepair · 12/09/2023 23:05

DH says not every day but it does come up a lot.

OvaHere · 12/09/2023 23:06

I don't even need to ask this question because he talks about it enough and is forever quoting Life of Brian.

Out of three DS's two of them also talk about it a fair bit - often with their Dad.

Only one DS I think would be more on the infrequent to never end of the scale. I could be very wrong about that though!

highlandcoo · 12/09/2023 23:06

@WeAreBorg I love the tortoise formation with umbrellas image!

Laughingmole · 12/09/2023 23:06

DH said “3 times a week” at first and then laughed and said “he genuinely can’t remember ever thinking about it.”
