Does parking on a closed road count as a live parking thread? 😁

So they have closed the road I live on to resurface it. It will be closed for the next two nights. We’ve had multiple letters from the council, there have been signs up for at least a month and yesterday they painted NO PARKING THURSDAY AND FRIDAY all over the road.

8 cars are still parked there with 15 minutes to go until resurfacing begins. One of the cars is right outside my house and when I saw them out the window, I tried to explain to the two women (looking like they were off for an evening in town) that they were probably not going to be able to get their car until morning but they told me to fuck off!

The road is lorry central, a guy is taking pictures of the remaining cars… it’s all go here.

Anyone know what they do? Do they just resurface round the cars? Tow them away? Do they get brutal? There’s a fair few annoyed looking men in hi-vis walking up and down! Should I get wine and a comfy viewing position?

😉

Right, I am back with an idea. I have a keyring I can put on the "lost and found" section (not an official section but it's at the tills.) It is reminiscent of this... here

FUCK OFF CAR HAS BEEN WINCHED ONTO LORRY

Brilliant! Serves them right for telling you to F off, when you were only trying to be helpful.

Fabulous thread. Our street got a complete repaving last summer, but it was little drama as there's no parking on it at all, ever. The road closures were a bit of a pain though.

PlantingTrees · 22/04/2022 16:41

That bone! Any bone experts out there?

FOUND THE BONE

it’s old innit

I've just googled human child femur (can't believe I did that tbh)... and it really could be. Woah.
That would freak me out a bit.

I think the bone is too wide/short…..proportions are wrong for it to be human though hard to tell from photo. Maybe a cow bone?

I think it’s from a pig.

Speaking as an archaeologist (but not an osteo-archaeologist. Just someone who’s dug a lot of middens).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/04/2022 17:37

Really the bone needs something alongside as a comparison to measure ...
like the Shit Beauty Advent Calendar a couple of years back that had a funnel ( yes , a funnel ) in I think day 2 .
And the OP used her cats' paw as a prop to compare .

Unfortunately if OPs dog is Donkey Sized then we cannot accurately compare and The Femur would look like it came from a Barbie Doll !

Yes. Terrible.

At least Wobbly Bottom Farm is still there and hasn't been renamed something like "Goats So Simple" Cheese haven.

I heard a rumour that wobbly bottom has upped sticks too. Most unimpressed, tho my backside would probs be less wobbly without their pesto cheese!

The proliferation of locals on this thread is fab, a viper trail around town sounds great. Sadly I am in the less cultured side, though our local shop is near ducks and is by far the most superior in H town!

VeryLongBeeeeep · 22/04/2022 17:40

I am not usually a fan of parking threads. They're usually too try-hard with the first two pages clogged up with 847 posts of "diagram or it doesn't count OP".

But THIS...this thread is absolutely fucking epic Grin

(I once bought a car in this town, despite never having lived in the county nor any of its neighbours. Do I win most tenuous connection?)

chisanunian · 22/04/2022 17:41

Random musings:

I want to know where they took FO woman's car, and whether she's found it yet!!!

St Evenage is the patron saint of roundabouts.

I'm partial to a bit of Wobbly Bottom cheese.

Once upon a time I lived in Hedgehog country, and also L and St E, but am now to be found over yonder border, where the council charges a fortune in council tax and then doesn't spend it on what they should. We had our footpaths resurfaced recently, and only a few weeks later they already have little dandelion volcanoes pushing up the tarmac. Would have helped if they'd got rid of the weeds first, really.

Horizons83 "Ah, my home town! Anyone else on this thread who was born in Waitrose?!"

My partner's said more than once that he was born in the Safeway there! He needs to update his anecdote 😂

Mummapenguin20 · 22/04/2022 18:23

Im intrested in the cars being towed but oooo that bone

HistoriaTrixie · 22/04/2022 18:29

Another archaeo here. I think it looks like a pig bone but I can't be sure not knowing how long/wide it is. Almost certain it's not human (sorry to disappoint!).

BrightonBunny · 22/04/2022 18:36

Hoping for more winching and towing!!

HippoRaine · 22/04/2022 18:38

I don't even want to say this and ruin the magic but that's not a child's bone. From the pic my best guess would be pig humerus. Sorry.

Chica10 · 22/04/2022 18:40

Brilliant thread!

What in earth was wrong with Wibbly Wobbly Lane?!!
