To ask your "glitch in the matrix" moment?

Hello,

I had a glitch in the matrix last night whilst dying my hair, I took the nozzle off the bottle and put it on the sink and then I mixed the dye etc and when I went to get the nozzle it was gone, I moved everything off the sink, looked on the floor but it was gone so I managed without and then once the hair dye was on I found the nozzle on the sink on top of something I'd moved and I swear it wasn't there before! Not a major event but it was a bit weird.

Do you have any glitch in the matrix stories? (Basically unexplained events)

@ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHaands

When we had a thread like this previously, someone posted about childhood "memories" of floating down the stairs, from top to bottom in one floaty step. This resonated really strongly with me.. some part of me remembers doing this too.

Anyone else?

Yes! Oh my goodness yes. As soon as I read this I vividly "remembered" doing this

ARGGGGH i just cannot deal with the thought of freaky floaty ghost children Shock 😭

Were your memories from before you were born? Like maybe you were in utero and going downstairs? I would love more detail about this!

Many years ago a group of 6 of us met up at a friend's house prior to going out. He put the half drunk mug of coffee on the draining board in the kitchen and we all left, having only been there for a couple of minutes.
Two hours later we came back from the pub (all sober I hasten to add) and found that the kitchen ceiling had fallen down - it was a hell of a mess. And his still half full cup of coffee was standing upright right on the top of the pile of rubble.
We never did figure out how on earth that could happen.

I had a very vivid dream once a couple of years ago in which I could fly. It involved throwing yourself violently towards the ground and just as you were about to hit, you swooped upwards. It was very important that you threw yourself towards the ground without any inhibition otherwise it wouldn't work.

For at least a month afterwards at the back of my mind was the absolute conviction that I could fly. I hadn't examined the thought consciously but in the part of my unconscious that affects my day to day thinking, that belief was definitely there.

It was only one day when something happened to 'break' my dream that I thought "well of course, I can fly!" and then had the very weird sensation of having to break down what was clearly a ridiculous unconscious conviction.

Not sure I've explained that very well, but I was fascinated that something I had experienced in a dream had the ability to affect my unconscious belief. The experience has made me think a lot more about the 'unexplained' experiences I've had over the years.

Although when I was a teenager I did teach myself lucid dreaming and was able to leave my body in a waking dream state and astral travel, so many some of my dream was remembering those experiences from 35 years ago!

When I was at university, I was sharing a room with my friend. Our beds were in the diagonally opposed corners. There was no central heating and we had an old fan heater at the end of my bed in front of the fire grate, well away from her bed. One night I woke up and my friend was white and shiny and looking very distressed but said nothing. I tried to comfort her. She then turned and disappeared and I woke up, shaken.

That was probably a night terror. All fine. Except I got up to go to the loo and knocked my lamp over with a bang. Looked round I checked I hadn’t disturbed her and she appeared fast asleep. I came back a minute later and she was bolt upright in bed, chatty as though she’d been awake for some time. She then proceeded to apologise for making a noise as she tripped over the heater when she got back into bed. No amount of telling her that it was I, who made the noise convinced her otherwise. I was pretty freaked out.

One Saturday morning I went downstairs and something seemed ... off. Couldn't quite pinpoint why, but I felt like I couldn't relax. Suddenly, there were two sparrows in the room flying around the room, tweeting and trying to get out of the window. The house had been locked up all night including all windows and the only door to the attic was shut tight. We have a cat but he doesn't go out at night and had been shut in the living room, so he couldn't have brought them in and we don't have a chimney. I opened the window and they flew out, but couldn't figure out how on Earth two birds had got into a locked house. If there was a small gap in brickwork then maybe one bird may find a way in, but two at the same time? I checked all over the house and nothing had been left open anywhere. That was ten years ago and I still can't think where those two little sparrows came from!

My daughter lost her sunglasses, looked everywhere for them. About 6 weeks later they were found in an outside pocket of her bag, which she had obviously searched(it wasn't a big pocket and she rarely used it) but not only were they in there- the pocket was unzipped and they could have easily fallen out at any time. Still can't work out how they got there.

shouldhavebeen · 19/01/2022 17:22

a silly one, just been flicking through the tv there's an old episode of Peak Practice, the scene had Brookside's Billy Corkhill in it. I changed channel and the first face I saw was the actor who played his stepson Damon Grant. Oh I loved Brookside!

The attempts to fly you describe are very like how flying is described by Douglas Adams in HHGG where people throw themselves at the ground and miss. It sounds incredibly plausible the way he wrote it.

@Cattenberg

“It is all completely repeatable, so we have experimented with it. We have tried having my husband or son stand exactly in my place (they are visible standing in the spot where I wasn’t), having one of them stand directly behind me (they are fully visible, I am not).

How is this possible? Shock

I am afraid I call bullshit on this one.
Terfydactyl · 19/01/2022 18:27

Couple of recent ones but there are many spanning the years.
Went to a local greasy spoon cafe, was the only customer in. The staff went downstairs to cook my order and I heard a cough behind me.
Spooked the shit out of me but I thought well someone else was here I obviously didn't see them, or they came in after while I was giving my order.
My food came up and I turned around sort of to point out to the staff there was another customer and there was no one there.

And just Monday I saw a man walking down a path that wasnt accessible.
Theres a factory at the end of my street, everyone in it wears hi viz. The gate was shut and locked, yet I clearly saw a man without hi viz walking through the locked gate and down like an alleyway (quite wide) and disappears into the mist. But I walked over a few minutes later and the gate was shut and locked, and crucially theres no wide alleyway beyond the gate.

My old desktop computer was on a desk just beside the back door. It was very easy to reach over and open the door slightly whenever the cat wanted either in or out. One afternoon the cat went out. She came in a few minutes later. She went out. She came in. She came in again. I gave my head a quick shake and decided that I had lost track of letting her out by being distracted. She went out, came in, went out, went out again, and then came in for the last time.

After the first glitch, I know that I was paying attention to which side of the door she was last on. Total number of outs matched the total number of ins but just didn’t occur in the correct order.

mewe3 · 19/01/2022 19:00

When I was about 8 I was playing a computer game with 2 friends. The game was on a disk and if you were to take the disk out the game would stop - as you would expect. So we were playing the game and one of my friends brother shouted for her up to the window as we all lived on the same road. All three of us went to the window at the front of the house and the brother told her it was time to go home as it was getting dark so both my friends left and I went to continue playing the game. I was playing for a good half an hour before my mum told me it was time to get ready for bed. I closed the game and went to put the disk back in its case except the disk wasn't in the computer. I searched everywhere, even inside the computer, I was panicked because it was new and I would get in trouble. I told my mum and she accused one of my friends of taking it home, but how would that be possible if I was still playing the game? To this day jt baffles me as I remember I was the last one out of the room to go to the window and my friends went straight downstairs after, when would they have had time to take it and even so how would the game still be playingHmm

mewe3 · 19/01/2022 19:20

I should add, I knew the game didn't work without the disk (it wasn't a download type) as I would frequently pop the disk out to close the game rather than closing it down

In November 1996, l got a phone call at 5am to say my dad had passed away in hospital. It was expected, he'd been very ill, so sad, but not really shocking or surprising.
That day was awful, heavy snow, and my husband and l had to go to the hospital to collect his things, then go and register the death. Went back to my mam until early evening, then went home. By then it was about 7pm, and still snowing.
We lived in a small modern estate, at the corner of a cul de sac. My husband suggested we had fish and chips, as it had been a long day and we were tired and hungry. He said he'd go for them, so l put the money on the hall table and went to feed our dogs in the kitchen.
My husband went out, l heard him shut the front door, start the car, and the headlights came on as he reversed the car off the drive.
About a minute later my eldest dog ran to the hallway, jumping up at the front door, wagging his tail, very excited, but not barking. I thought my husband must have forgotten the money, and opened the front door to check, but the car was gone and there was no one about.
When my husband came back, l said "Did you forget the money? Why did you come back?" and he looked bemused and said "I didn't?"
I told him about the dog, and he looked at me and said "he used to be like that when your dad came, he'd always look in the little window at the side of the front door before he knocked, and the dog used to get really excited to see him." Which was true. My dad used to let our dogs out when we were at work.
My husband said that when he'd gone out to the car, there was no one in sight (we had a street lamp at the bottom of our drive) and the only footprints in the snow when he came back were ours, mine from the car to the house, and his there and back.
I've no idea what happened, but my husband reckoned it was my dad letting us know he was alright.

katseyes7 · 19/01/2022 19:59

A few years ago l went to see a psychic. I hadn't seen one in years, and l didn't know any near where l live now - l moved 150 miles from my home town nearly 10 years ago.
So they couldn't have known me, or anyone who knew me. I found one online, a few miles from where l lived, and booked it under a different name.
When l arrived at the place (new age shop, in an area l didn't know, l had to use the sat nav to get there) there was a man in the shop looking out of the window.
When l went in, before l'd even closed the door behind me, he said "Who's XXX?" (my dad's name). Then he laughed and said "he was in the car with you, he was out and in here before you'd even switched the engine off!"
So l went for the reading, writing stuff down, and he was good, he told me a lot of stuff he couldn't possibly have known.
About halfway through, he looked really distressed and said "Oh no, no, no, suicide!"
My mother had taken her own life at 83 five months after l'd moved to where l live now. No one here knew her, or that she was dead, or how she died. I wasn't working at the time, and the only friends l had here at the time didn't know l was going to see a psychic.
I can understand people saying "oh, they always say, do you know a John or a Mary" which is true in a lot of cases, but not everyone has a suicide in their close family. He actually gave me details of how she did it (which was unusual, even the coroner said that to me) and said she wanted to say she was sorry, and that she was with my dad, he'd come to get her when she died.
I honestly can't explain it. But it did give me some peace of mind.

DedalusBloom · 19/01/2022 22:32

@WeatherwaxOn

That's really interesting - I've never watched or read any Douglas Adams but maybe I've absorbed that from somewhere else along the line.

WeatherwaxOn · 19/01/2022 22:54

Dedalus it's odd isn't it? I have had dreams where I'm flying, but usually I'm mid-flight before I think about it. Not doing any deliberate movement to get airbourne.
I wonder if flight is some sort of common fantasy and by default we only have certain ways of working out how to fulfil it, iyswim.

LalaDipsey · 19/01/2022 23:51

I was about 4 years old and the phone rang. Just as my mum answered I said 'that's going to aunty Carol. You're going to tell her you're going to have a baby boy and you're going to call him Jonathan Mark'.
My parents say that I didn't know my mum was pregnant. My parents knew, and were planning on telling their family (they hadn't yet) but they didn't know what sex the baby would be and hadn't thought of any names.
They did have a baby boy, and they did call him Jonathan Mark.

I keep dreaming I win money. Unfortunately never came true.

But I remember in 1st year of high school dreaming I had a specific pair of trainers that I really wanted but were expensive so I never mentioned them to my parents. One day I came home from school and they had bought me the exact trainers as a surprise.

I also think my child is up to something specific and she does it later. Maybe mothers intuition?

mellongoose · 20/01/2022 06:49

I have a couple, probably explainable, but weird at the time

  1. as a student in the 90s I lived in London's East End. Our flat was an old terrace house. I couldn't get a picture on my tv so was wiggling the portable aerial around. Suddenly, I got a snowy silent black and white picture of sorts. I could make out women in Pakistani dress sitting on chairs in a room. I was looking at it for ages. One lady got up at the same time I stood up and looked out of my window.

I saw her come out of the building opposite our flat! My telly was picking up the cctv from the dentist 🙃 but I couldn't get actual bbc or itv!

  1. not me but DP. Where we live now, he has always lived. There are bits of coast that no-one can get to, but he has, years ago and by rope that he used to hide or remove completely.

He went down one day and caught sight of someone. He was a bit annoyed that someone else had figured out how to get down. He noticed that this man was wearing a hat and a long dark coat. He saw the man go into a cave. There was no other way off the beach. For ages he didn't reappear so DP went over to the cave. You guessed it, empty.

Later on he was having a pint in the local and mentioned it. One of the old boys said "Oh, you've seen him too, then, the old coast guard". 😳

  1. our house is old. I was walking towards it one day holding my baby and some shopping. I saw DP open the front door and walk into the side room. I thought he was being rude as he could have come and helped!! Walked in the house and DP was upstairs playing music and not known I was back. So who opened the door?!

Years later, I met someone who used to live in our house as a teenager. His parents had had a medium of sorts in the house one day who had told them the presence of an old man still lives there. No one feels scared in our house, it's a nice place to be, thank goodness!!

TheChip · 20/01/2022 19:24

I've just thought of another one that happened recently.

My DS had a locker key for work that he had lost. He got a new one and months passed. The lads then decided to hide his current key.
During all of this time I had bought him a new pair of work pants that he just left on his floor gathering dust. Never worn. They still had the sheet paper in them.

I shoved them in the washer so I could put them away myself, and when I empty the washer, a key is resting on the drum.
It was a locker key. But he had never worn those work pants. They were the only thing belonging to him in the washer. I have done many washes since he lost his key.
When he took it to work to see if it actually was the locker key, it worked, and inside the locker was they key they had hid.

A few friends and I were sat outside in the garden on a summers night. We were looking at the stars and noticed one but couldn’t work out if it was a shooting star or a plane. It was moving in a really straight line but didn’t look like a plane, almost straight after a second star/plane appeared from a cloud and followed the exact line and the other one disappeared. It was like a conveyor belt, and happened about 5 times. I still can’t explain it.
