I’ve ruined the floor and feel so stupid

Thedramalama · 13/05/2021 13:52

This morning our long awaited amtico flooring fitters arrived to prepare the floor. They spent hours levelling the floor with a special cement-like compound. They told me repeatedly not to walk on it and I fully understood. They then left and I continued with my work (currently working from home). I made myself a cup of tea ten minutes later and drank it whist speaking to a colleague on the phone....I think you can guess what’s coming.

Absorbed in the content of the call I (stupidly and absent mindedly) wandered over the hall to go and sit in the lounge as I often do when talking at length... slipped on the wet screed and collapsed in a heap on the edge of the stairs - in the process managing to cover the stair carpet and my clothes in the cement whilst throwing hot tea all over the freshly screened floor... not only did this happen, in my panic I tried to ‘fix’ it with a cake smoother- so now it looks absolutely atrocious...I cried - a lot. I have a lot going on at work at the moment but I have clearly fucked up massively and this is inexcusably dumb.

So what happened next you may wonder? A blubbing call to my husband who broke the news to the carpet fitters and bless them they are coming back tomorrow to assess and fix the damage. I can only imagine what they have said about me Blush

Here’s the thing though...I can’t face them. I literally am so embarrassed at how stupid I’ve been. I just know they will think I’m a complete twat and I just can’t face them tomorrow or next week. Please make me feel better and tell me what you would do. How do I face two men that literally told me not to walk on their work Confused

You will absolutely not be the first or last! I nearly did it, I put a chair in the way and told the fitter it was to stop me doing something daft and he did not seem surprised.

It will be fixable.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 13/05/2021 14:01

Ah, op!! I can totally see it happening. You had a lot on your mind, in fairness. Once it's fixed you will forget about it and you might even laugh about it one day. Brew

Jasmine245 · 13/05/2021 14:03

Sorry that made me laugh. You are being very honest owning up. I would have blamed the dog.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 13/05/2021 14:06

Oh no! You just did what you usually do when you are at home!
We had Amtico fitted earlier this year, but the fitte used plywood underneath and then stuck the planks on. Sorry no help!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/05/2021 14:08

Oh bless you, this did make me laugh, it's the sort of thing I would do!

They will be very very used to this sort of thing, so easily done. Don't stress about it.

Thedramalama · 13/05/2021 14:09

Thanks guys - I can see the funny side but I’m not quite there yet. I’m beyond mortified. I think the fact that i tried to bodge fix it (and in doing so making it look far worse) is probably adding to my general feeling of doom Blush

I know Jasmine we should have blamed Simone other than me - I’m too honest!!!

Not Simone I meant to put ‘someone’ 😂 oh god I should have stayed in bed I think today - maybe I should have blamed Simone Confused

Andthenanothercupoftea · 13/05/2021 14:12

Oh no! This will be a funny story one day.

helpfulperson · 13/05/2021 14:14

I bet they will turn up tomorrow and tell you tales of other customers who have done things as stupid or stupider.

Thedramalama · 13/05/2021 14:16

Helpfulperson - I really hope so, I just don’t think I can sleep tonight knowing I have to face them. They must think I’m such a bimbo Hmm

It's the part where you got the cake smoother out to fix it. I would have done the same Grin

Palavah · 13/05/2021 14:18

You'll feel worse as well from the shock of the fall and the burn. Go easy.

Thedramalama · 13/05/2021 14:19

IsFuzzy 😂 I just panicked, it just looks awful, I think I should’ve left it as now it looks like jam on toast Confused

Awwww! Give yourself a break, anyone could do this, and it's definitely fixable. They'll just stick some more self leveller over it (been through the floor process a few times).

Sounds like you've got a lot going on, you're also probably a bit in shock from falling over and spilling hot tea on yourself!

You are okay, I promise ThanksGin

@helpfulperson

I bet they will turn up tomorrow and tell you tales of other customers who have done things as stupid or stupider.

Also this.

There was a stupid things people have done at work thread recently. Lots worse than this!

Badabingbadabum · 13/05/2021 14:20

You will not be the first! And whenever you tell this story in the future you will be laughing when you mention the cake smoother!

HamAndCheeseToastie5032 · 13/05/2021 14:21

Will your DH be there?

If not, I'd say 'thanks for fixing this, what is he like eh? Oh hang on... I bet that bastard said it was ME didn't he?!'

Worth a try Grin

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 13/05/2021 14:21

I painted the floor in my bedroom. I painted from below the window across the room to the door. I was pleased as it looked good painting. My mobile rung. It was on the windowsill across the room Blush Needless to say I had to walk across wet paint to get my phone Grin

Keepitonthedownlow · 13/05/2021 14:21

Worst case, could you claim on your home insurance?

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 13/05/2021 14:22

Oh bless you OP. I hope you weren't hurt.

I did laugh at the cake smoother part.

Thedramalama · 13/05/2021 14:23

Oh my gosh thank you guys so much, you’ve made me smile and feel a bit better now. I honestly still can’t believe I’ve done it but don’t feel half as bad now - Glay I was going to make my husband stay at home in the morning so I don’t have to face them 😂

Re the cake smoother - yes frankly I think that will be a good laugh for my friends if I dare to tell them 😂

OP posts:
BeetyAxe · 13/05/2021 14:24

My husband did exactly this at Christmas before our bee floor went down. Wasn’t too bad to fix, these things happen, don’t worry about it.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 13/05/2021 14:24

They can fix it.... it isn’t a problem. My DS tiptoed over ours whilst still drying to steal snacks in the evening

1990s · 13/05/2021 14:25

PLEASE tell your friends. They will love it.

Life still so dull with lockdown if my friend told me this I would be laughing (with them) for the rest of the day.
