My husband received something very strange in the post ...

In the post today, my husband received a letter. It was hand written with his name and address on the outside. No return info. The writing in the envelope is definitely a woman's

Inside is a copy of an "essay" I googled it and it's by Robert Louise Stevenson. It called "on Marriage"

The gist of it is that marriage has lots of ups and downs and requires communication

There is nothing else. No name, just a folded print out of this essay.

Any explanation, other than my fear? I have no reason other than this to suspect anything.

YABU - don't jump to conclusions

YANBU - he's cheated.

I'm shaking. This feels so surreal. I hope I'm overreacting. He's currently at work.

Ps. We open each other's post. We think nothing of it - usually. It's always junk or bills

You can read the op's posts and find out the whole story...

ellyeth · 13/01/2021 19:51

Somebody spoke of the OP "invading" her husband's privacy. It is not invading someone's privacy if that person is quite comfortable about the arrangement. I don't understand why people are so judgmental about the way other people conduct their lives.

Lovetoplan · 13/01/2021 20:06

I would be suspicious too. Sit home down and say you have something very serious to discuss with him then present him with the letter and envelope and ask him what he has to say. Watch his very first reactions - does he look uncomfortable etc. Don't reveal home much or little you know.

bluecheesefan · 13/01/2021 20:10

@Lovetoplan It's all over, she did that yesterday. RTFT.

If you haven't cancelled the cheque I suggest you change the wifi password.

AdobeWanKenobi · 13/01/2021 20:12

It's not fucking difficult is it?

My husband received something very strange in the post ...

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

^ I'll just leave this here.

KitKat1985 · 13/01/2021 20:16

I genuinely just smiled when I saw what it was OP. Really pleased it's nothing sinister!

psychomath · 13/01/2021 20:19

OP, I'm sorry to say this is all very suspicious - your husband seems to have come up with a convenient explanation but I'm afraid I just don't buy it. He's definitely cheating on you with a Jehovah's Witness serial killer who's also an optician and has no sense of humour.

I'm glad this got a resolution - I was reading it yesterday thinking you'd be wondering forever about your mystery literary stalker!

shoebirdie · 13/01/2021 20:19

I have to disagree with a few responses here.
I think the biggest issues here are that you’re too afraid to just ask him what it is, that signals lack of communication to me.
Are you afraid that if you ask the question you may not like the answer? You may not, however, what is the alternative here? That you stay silent and become more and more worried about something that may be nothing. It may be something but at least you’ll know and can tackle it head on.
If he has confided in someone that there are problems in your marriage, then wouldn’t you rather raise it with him and him speak to you about what he feels is wrong instead of some “other woman” (as you perceive the letter to be from?)
Be brave, speak to him, you’ve loved him enough to marry him, love him enough now to listen to what he has to say and tackle it xxx

galaxybuttons · 13/01/2021 20:24

I had a handwritten letter posted from local JW group last week - they're doing them on mass lately. My letter quoted stuff about God and included a JW leaflet and the letter included an address so I could contact them..... Your letter doesn't fit JW style. Sorry to say, but I think it sounds like he's having an affair and someone's trying to let you know.

Have you ever considered becoming an agony aunt for a magazine?
You are obviously very caring and sensitive and would give excellent advice.
And you'd read the letters from your troubled clients so carefully, I'm sure.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 13/01/2021 20:28

People need to read the OP post at the borrow of page 21!!

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 13/01/2021 20:29

bottom of page 21. Stupid autocorrect

CustardySergeant · 13/01/2021 20:30

LaMarschallin Wink Isn't it exasperating?

Has this been nominated for classics yet?

I love this thread. So Mumsnet.

user1523010848 · 13/01/2021 20:35

My advice . Ask DH. Don't fret. Watch his reaction.

MrsGrindah · 13/01/2021 20:36

I can’t understand why some people don’t twig that in a thread that’s 33 pages long there might have been a GAME CHANGING UPDATE

I recieved a letter (hand written) from jehovah witness church. Dont worry, it freaked me out a bit till I realized. I'm sure it's just something stupid, let's face it he knows you open each others mail. Cheer up and just ask

lynsey91 · 13/01/2021 20:55

Why the fuck can't people just read the whole thread. If it's too long then just don't bother.

Some of you just make yourselves look like total idiots
