My husband received something very strange in the post ...

In the post today, my husband received a letter. It was hand written with his name and address on the outside. No return info. The writing in the envelope is definitely a woman's

Inside is a copy of an "essay" I googled it and it's by Robert Louise Stevenson. It called "on Marriage"

The gist of it is that marriage has lots of ups and downs and requires communication

There is nothing else. No name, just a folded print out of this essay.

Any explanation, other than my fear? I have no reason other than this to suspect anything.

YABU - don't jump to conclusions

YANBU - he's cheated.

I'm shaking. This feels so surreal. I hope I'm overreacting. He's currently at work.

Ps. We open each other's post. We think nothing of it - usually. It's always junk or bills

Of course it's possible to see if it's a man's or a woman's handwriting! Ask five men and five women you know to write something down. I'll bet you my bottom dollar that you'll be able to tell them apart.

SimonJT · 12/01/2021 11:36

Some JWs here do this, they use the open electoral register.

n00b1 · 12/01/2021 11:36

I’ve received a couple of handwritten envelopes recently with Jehovah’s Witness stuff in it. An essay on marriage seems like a thing they might send out. Ours was addressed to the residents/homeowner though rather than to either of our names, but it still seems likely.

Icanseegreenshoots · 12/01/2021 11:37

I am going to say I think it is someone letting him know, or warning him about an affair too.

If they wanted you to know, they would have addressed it to you.

It is warning intended for your dh that you was not supposed to see.
No one sends an essay about marriage for no reason, without a covering letter. Not even JW

Where is the post mark from?

GarlicSoup · 12/01/2021 11:37

@Bluntness100

Yes, I find it odd to immediately jump to cheating and to panic like this.

If my husband got this I’d laugh and think some weirdo sent it. I trust him and know he’s not cheating

You did the opposite. I think you need to examine why?

My late FIL had the most beautiful handwriting I have ever seen.

Emeeno1 · 12/01/2021 11:38

Whoever wrote it probably would not know that you open his post.

It could be Jehovah Witnesses but in my experience what was written would have more religious significance.

I would ask myself, 'if I had written it what would I be trying to communicate?' And I would not be able to dismiss it so easily as the more relaxed people here. Most people taking the time to handwrite a letter today are invested in something.

nevernotstruggling · 12/01/2021 11:38

Come on op what's the post mark?

OnSilverStars · 12/01/2021 11:38

Has a tyneside stamp thingy on it. We live in Yorkshire

Iwonder08 · 12/01/2021 11:38

OP, calm down, this wouldn't indicate cheating to me at all. It is way too subtle for someone to reveal his affair in that way

wincarwoo · 12/01/2021 11:38

@Bluntness100

How odd. But what a skill to be able to gender hand writing. Hats off to you on that.
It's pretty easy to gender handwriting.
DisappearingGirl · 12/01/2021 11:39

Off-topic but I can nearly always guess if envelopes are written by a man or a woman. Interestingly I class my own handwriting as male! (I am female)

Firstbornunicorn · 12/01/2021 11:39

That is weird. I can’t even think why someone he was cheating with would send it.

CecilyP · 12/01/2021 11:39

It's not definitely a woman's handwriting. There is no such thing as men's/women's handwriting at all.
Unless there are hearts instead of dots above the letter ‘I’, that’s generally a good giveaway. If it’s from some religious group, I’d assume it is women who are doing the actual writing (for no other reason than I can’t imagine men doing it!).

BIWI · 12/01/2021 11:39

FFS stop with the 'woke' nonsense. You were - rightly - called out for making a stereotypical judgement, that's all.

user1471565182 · 12/01/2021 11:39

My instinct from the outside is not cheating. Probably some crank. Have you seen what people are like at the moment?

Drinkingallthewine · 12/01/2021 11:40

Any post mark that might give a clue?

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 12/01/2021 11:40

If you haven't got any other reason to be concerned, then I'd take it as a weirdo being weird. The JW thing some people have mentioned seems entirely possible.

user1471565182 · 12/01/2021 11:41

Just looking on goggle now it seems the Johos have really stepped this sort of shit up atm

loopylou3030 · 12/01/2021 11:42

There would be no point the JW sending it without any reference to themselves either on the letter or on the envelope. I presume they send these sort of letters to try and get you interested in their organisation.

Whythesadface · 12/01/2021 11:42

I got that today as well, not married no man in the house, it was the same writing as one we got from Jehovah's witnesses in Dec, but in that one they were on about reaching out and spreading the word about living a good life.

user1471565182 · 12/01/2021 11:43

Supposedly because they cant get out and annoy people with the rules theyve taken to bombarding random addresses with this stuff.

BikeRunSki · 12/01/2021 11:43

Are you in Hampshire?

whoamongstus · 12/01/2021 11:43

There you go, OP!

Hex probably a lovely person who has given a JW five seconds of his time........no offence to any JWs on here but the ones in my area are an absolute pain in the arse.
