Things that are actually pretty weird when you think about them?

I've just been thinking about this as I've been lay in the bath.

I'm currently pregnant and baby goes mad when I'm in the bath and I was watching him kicking and squirming inside me and just thought... This is actually pretty odd when you think about it. I have a living thing that's moving around inside me!

A friend had to have a blood transfusion not so long ago and she can't think about that for long without feeling squeamish that someone else's blood was inside her!

What other things do you find strange when you really think about them?

Pets, that we have a complete different species just living in our house. We just bumble along together with some weird understanding of each other.

autumnleaves1220 · 28/10/2020 21:01

I actually was thinking the other night how I feel sad eating meat now because I've just had a baby and I'd hate it if someone ate my baby so why should I eat other animals babies?!?

I said this to my husband. I've never seen him laugh so much.

Disorganisedfish · 28/10/2020 21:01

I’m with you all on the sleeping thing. About the same time every day, humans collectively lie down in special clothes and sort of switch our bodies off to recharge them. It blows my mind that we are that simplistic when it comes down to it!

TremendousWitch · 28/10/2020 21:03

Fire is pretty mind blowing

Electricity is just magic

Drinking other animals milk, imagine putting cats milk on your cereal.

Freezers, I don't know how they work

MJMG2015 · 28/10/2020 21:03

So many of these things - and they make me feel really weird.

But also 'technology' im typing this on a 'phone screen' and immediate, all of you, all around the world can read it.

Phone. I can phone my friend in NZ and we can talk. NZ anywhere in the world and we can talk. How, just how?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/10/2020 21:03

The bit on the weather when they tell you what it was like earlier today.

Yeah, it was rainy, I know, I was out in in. Not much of a 'fore' cast. Confused

The fact that DH and I made 2 other humans. I mean, they just didn’t exist at all and now they are whole human beings who have their own personalities and thoughts and feelings etc and they live in our house with us 🤯
They’re 9 and 11 and I still can’t get my head around them often!

BakedTattie · 28/10/2020 21:04

Phones. How we can speak on the phone and hear other people, in real time. It’s just crazy.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/10/2020 21:04

Covid tiers. Im in Lincolnshire, near Nottinghamshire border. Tier 1. But a few miles is tier 3.

Raspberryboom · 28/10/2020 21:04

Factories. The fact that nearly every single thing in our houses, workplaces and everyday lives, is made in a factory. Even walking down the street - street signs, street lights, bulbs, fence panels, benches, bins, the bags that go in the bins.... Everything is made in a factory. How many factories must there be in the world?! Where are they all?? And then you see factories on TV and they are so enormous, like one whole massive factory just making crisps for example. So how many enormous factories must there be making every single food product
/brand we buy?! I still remember the first time I ever thought about this... blew my mind!

TremendousWitch · 28/10/2020 21:05

Cocks are very weird, like this vulnerable ball bag and stuff.

Crystalknobs · 28/10/2020 21:06

Space is weird, how do we know that it goes on forever? I often wonder if we and the planet we live on are being kept as little pets by a giant . I imagine the giant keeps us in a goldfish bowl and watches us .

Namechangeme87 · 28/10/2020 21:06

Great thread btw OP

Loving these .

JaJaDingDong · 28/10/2020 21:06

As someone who remembers the time when you had to book an international phone call days in advance, and the operator would call you at the designated time to "put you through to Australia", and you could only talk for 3 mins because that cost a small fortune, and also as someone who queued outside a phone box every Sunday night to phone my parents to let them know I was still alive, being able to chat for hours to people in different countries at the same time, for free, still blows my mind.

mummmy2017 · 28/10/2020 21:07

That a teenager can stay home all day do nothing, totally trash a kitchen, then be cross that you ask them to tidy their mess before you do them a favour .
Mine threw a tantrum as I refused to drive 1/2 a mile down the road to get sweets, drink and chocolate.

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 28/10/2020 21:07

Talking - we make these noises and communicate millions of pieces of information and emotions. Weird!

I was only looking at ds yesterday evening thinking about this. If he was made 1 day later, what would he have been like? A completely different person in looks and personality?
Sockmonster23 · 28/10/2020 21:08

How we dream at night, weird Dreams and some that come true for me anyway and the exact feeling I had when I had the dream.

I think about someone I haven’t Seen for a whole and I get a text and even got a phone call from an old colleague /friend she was lucky I never change number.

Airplanes and how we fly to other countries in a few hours, it’s a small world now! So many things to be honest

dudsville · 28/10/2020 21:08

I think dancing is weird. Everyone just jiggling themselves this way and that in front of each other.

Ghostlygrapes · 28/10/2020 21:09

Sleeping. It gets dark so we get dressed into clothes specifically designed for sleeping, then lie doen and close our eyes until we finally start dreaming.

thefourgp · 28/10/2020 21:10

People who believe in aliens.

With all the amazing advances in technology and science I think it’s more logical to believe in advanced humans travelling through time/space than extra terrestrials from another universe.

LilyLongJohn · 28/10/2020 21:10

I think kissing us a really odd thing to do.

sunnycloudyrainy · 28/10/2020 21:12

The two things that really blow my mind when I think about them in any depth are space - the vastness of it and bank transfers/card payments how or if the actual money is being moved from bank to bank each time.... 🤯

Scout2016 · 28/10/2020 21:12

Drinking milk. The milk of another species to feed its young. When we wouldn't drink breast milk. Well, most people wouldn't.

Drinking pints. As Will in the Inbetweeners said, you wouldn't drink pints of anything else, but pint after pint of beer is ok.

I also found being pregnant too weird to think about for long. I was ill through big chunks and not at all surprised given something was living off me. And when she hiccuped Confused

Also people living in flats. Whenever I have I often lay there in bed thinking how there is box after box on top of the other, with people in just going about their business...literally living on top of each other and I could go in each flat and it would be a completely different world. I used to wish I could do some sort of x-ray vision cross section but I think it would have blown my mind.

goingtogetsomesleep · 28/10/2020 21:13

Rivers. How the water just keeps flowing. How many gallons if it?! And how many rivers just here in Scotland!
