Things that are actually pretty weird when you think about them?

I've just been thinking about this as I've been lay in the bath.

I'm currently pregnant and baby goes mad when I'm in the bath and I was watching him kicking and squirming inside me and just thought... This is actually pretty odd when you think about it. I have a living thing that's moving around inside me!

A friend had to have a blood transfusion not so long ago and she can't think about that for long without feeling squeamish that someone else's blood was inside her!

What other things do you find strange when you really think about them?

Why am I in this body and in this life and not in someone else’s body and someone else’s life? My mum had a miscarriage before she had me, what if she hadn’t, would I have been that baby, or the person born in the world just before I was born, or my younger brother, or never existed?

Crystalknobs · 28/10/2020 21:52

@KarmaNoMore that 2 people have the same thoughts at the same time!

itwasrebekahvardysaccount · 28/10/2020 21:53

I always think about things like this 🤣

Eyes and penises

Rosiejim · 28/10/2020 21:53

Punting nails is pretty weird. Like this weird hard stuff grows out of your fingers so we paint it.

BakedTattie · 28/10/2020 21:54

I can’t even think about space. It blows my mind so much I get scared.

PutItInYourPocket · 28/10/2020 21:55

@TremendousWitch

Cocks are very weird, like this vulnerable ball bag and stuff.
🤣🤣🤣

I get the sex thing too. Like you actually put a body part inside someone else...(and I'm sorry to be gross), I have a hole in my body that DH puts part of his body in... For fun Hmm

The sleeping one is weird, PP are on to something there.

I’ve always found organised religion weird. A deity creates us all. Provides a random set of rules. Is inherently a good (perfect) being but also kind of needy and requires us to sing songs about them and to them about how perfect they are and how we all love them. I created my DC and I’d find it really weird if on all Wednesdays afternoons they all sang songs about me.

Domestic cats. DS2 and I often discuss our amazement that some tiny lion has decided to live with us, share our beds, sit on our laps, stroke us with its paws, purr for us, come running when we call, come and greet us when we get home.

SonjaMorgan · 28/10/2020 21:57

Rich people hoarding money. I mean you will never be able to spend it all so why bother?

People who don't enjoy food.

Driving my car. The more I think about shooting down the road at speed in a tin box the weirder it feeling.

SonjaMorgan · 28/10/2020 21:57

Does anyone get the thing where if they stare at the same word for too long or say it lots of times it starts to look/sound wrong?

Sometimes I'll question myself if it's even spelt that way even though I know it is because it looks so weird after a while.

I often wonder if we and the planet we live on are being kept as little pets by a giant . I imagine the giant keeps us in a goldfish bowl and watches us.

🤣🤣🤣

dayswithaY · 28/10/2020 21:58

The3rdWatermelonThis blows my mind too. If you walk through a graveyard and see the grave of Fred Jones who died in 1936. Everyone that ever knew him, loved him, worked with him, is now dead. His wife, all his siblings, all gone. Probably his children too, the only living relatives are people who know nothing about him. Anything he achieved is gone and forgotten. Did he even exist?

MadameMeursault · 28/10/2020 21:58

@VeggieSausageRoll

I often wonder if I've ever drank the same water molecule twice...

And the thought that solid objects are actually made up of empty space (ie the spaces between the atoms that make up the materials)

And that we're all stuck to this blob of rock flying around the solar system at 67,000mph, and that blob of rock itself is then spinning at 1,000mph.

Things like this are the reason I don't sleep well!

And the air has particles in it even though it looks completely empty!

Cameras. How does that magic work? Video cameras - like, where would you even start if someone asked you to make a video camera

SunshineCake · 28/10/2020 21:58

Who decided that blue is blue and red is red.

How planes stay up.

How ridiculous sex is.

When I did eat breakfast I sometimes did have last nights left over dinner. I eat what I want when I want and don't follow rules like that.

Crystalknobs · 28/10/2020 21:59

That everything that happens in life depends on so many other events and decisions made by other people that have no idea I exist or the fact that their decision had affected me.

So true. I get all awkward and flustered when anyone tries to just give me a basic compliment. Never mind worshipping me every Sunday.

I was thinking earlier how a lot of us get squeamish at finding random hairs stuck to us or things around us, but we wouldn't think twice about touching someone's hair when it was still attached to their head

Haha, yes I've done that and it is weird.

Yes. How does this contraption capture a moment in time like that. It's mind boggling.

I do hope no one is reading this high 🤣

DANCEFLOORS
Going to a specific area of a room, so that you can wave your limbs around to music with other people doing the same too. Considering how serious humans usually are, this always makes me smile

musicalfrog · 28/10/2020 22:03

On the language thing. How does my 4yo know how to perfectly pronounce most of the words she uses, but is only just learning what they look like written down? It's a small window of knowing one but not the other, and it's a really odd one to think about!

JammyGem · 28/10/2020 22:03

Reading is still weird to me. It's just squiggles and yet our brain makes sense of them and can create whole worlds in our imagination. Don't even get me started on different languages!

LemonadeFromLemons · 28/10/2020 22:04

@Disorganisedfish

I’m with you all on the sleeping thing. About the same time every day, humans collectively lie down in special clothes and sort of switch our bodies off to recharge them. It blows my mind that we are that simplistic when it comes down to it!
Come to think of it the fact that we are all making ourselves so vulnerable doing it!
