So, I'm off work on annual leave with DS. Just been out for the day and just got home to find that it's school run time. We live near a first school so obviously the streets are lined with cars. Someone has parked on my drive and someone else is blocking them in!
Now I imagine that as no one is ever here during the day, these people have been doing this for some time (we've only lived here 3 months and the house was emtpy for a year before that). I've squeezed in beside the car blocking the drive so they won't be able to get our (remember the scene from Friends with Ross's sports car?) and therefore the car on my drive can't escape either.
AIBU to just sit here with a cuppa and watch this all play out while pretending not to be in?

Is it actually legal to block someone in, even if they ARE parked on your drive though?

I can't see the diagram so I'm just assuming that actually it's the car that's over OP's drive/drop curb which would technically be the one doing the blocking in.

I'm loving this Grin

For those that can't see pics. This thread will pass the time nicely on my 3 hr train journey Smile

This is brilliant. We live on a street with a school at the end. Cheeky parents use our private parking areas and regularly block drives.

My neighbour is ace and tells them to shift. Woman yesterday had blocked 2 drives despite there being empty space to park 5 feet back. Shad the cheek to say ‘but I’ve got a child’ Currently my neighbour is hassling the local councillor about it as the school head doesn’t care.

KalindaBlack · 15/06/2018 16:18

How long have they been waiting now? I'm loving this!! CF's

I don't get why the orange car parked so close to the neighbours red car in the first place. Set themselves up for a blocking in right there!

Pimmsypimms · 15/06/2018 16:19

Definitely agree with photos and send them to the school. We quite often receive letters from dds school reminding us to be mindful of residents when picking up and dropping off for school as they don’t want to piss off the local community.

mummmy2017 · 15/06/2018 16:19

It's illegal to park over a drop curb.
You could call the police tell them the mums outside are frightening you, and could they be there s you can move your car and let them out

Returnofthesmileybar · 15/06/2018 16:19

Your blocking me in please move - that's it? Did they even knock? Rude!!

MotherofTerriers · 15/06/2018 16:19

That is sooo cheeky. Parking in your drive is ok, blocking your drive is ok, but will you please move because you are blocking them in.....
Photos and registration plates to school I think
And if/when you decide to move, tell them that if they block your drive again, or park in it, you won't be so helpful next time

SneakyGremlins · 15/06/2018 16:20

All OP is doing is parking on the street. Nothing illegal.

Roussette · 15/06/2018 16:20

I would do a note in reply to their note.

"If you drive a red or orange car, you are blocking my drive repeatedly. Police have been called. Be patient"

Then do nothing Grin

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 15/06/2018 16:20

" is it obvious that it is a driveway? I can't see the diagram so sorry if it is blindingly obvious." Yep - it's basically part of the front garden, no way you could mistake it for anything else.

I'm unreasonably excited about this! ha ha

Helloisitteaurlookingfor · 15/06/2018 16:21

Woah! The note is so rude!!

LeighaJ · 15/06/2018 16:21

Geez even their note is rude. Shock

SixFeetUnder · 15/06/2018 16:21

So rude!!?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/06/2018 16:21

Did they knock on the door, or just post it through? I mean, if they want the car moved asap you'd think they'd knock, as you might not see their note lying there for many hours.....

They're obviously too embarrassed / pissed off to talk to you face to face, though.

Oh, and so long as you're not causing an obstruction of the public highway you're not breaking any sort of law.

Foxsox · 15/06/2018 16:22

I should be starting dinner
This is far too gripping

Hahahaha, whatever you do, DON'T ANSWER THE DOOR!!!

stayathomegardener · 15/06/2018 16:23

Can you crawl commando style up to your letter box to retrieve any notes?
Also please phone your neighbour to make sure they don't more their car. That would totally spoil everything. Smile

SneakyGremlins · 15/06/2018 16:23

Send a note back to their "YOU'RE BLOCKING ME IN!!!!!" note -

"Yes, I know"

Grin
Lonesurvivor · 15/06/2018 16:23

This is brilliant, leave them there, can you contact your neighbour (red car) to make sure they don't move either.

MadisonAvenue · 15/06/2018 16:23

If they're posting the same note through other doors are any neighbours in who are going to grass you up?
