My first parking thread!

So, I'm off work on annual leave with DS. Just been out for the day and just got home to find that it's school run time. We live near a first school so obviously the streets are lined with cars. Someone has parked on my drive and someone else is blocking them in!
Now I imagine that as no one is ever here during the day, these people have been doing this for some time (we've only lived here 3 months and the house was emtpy for a year before that). I've squeezed in beside the car blocking the drive so they won't be able to get our (remember the scene from Friends with Ross's sports car?) and therefore the car on my drive can't escape either.
AIBU to just sit here with a cuppa and watch this all play out while pretending not to be in?

You might not be able to do much legally if they park on their drive, but you can make it an utterly miserable experience for them so they won't repeat it.

keyboardkate · 15/06/2018 16:32

Thanks for info re the Red Car!

Settling in now for a barney.

RatRolyPoly · 15/06/2018 16:33

It is a civil offence to park on someone else's drive, just not a criminal one (so the police most likely won't help).

MadisonAvenue · 15/06/2018 16:33

The OP said that the red car belongs to a neighbour who isn't there (I think)

itstimeforanamechange · 15/06/2018 16:33

Yes trespass is a civil wrong which is why the police wouldn't get involved.

Entitled parents are hoist by their own petard. Up the proverbial creek without a police paddle.

SneakyGremlins · 15/06/2018 16:33

Maybe OP is being held hostage Shock

LapdanceShoeshine · 15/06/2018 16:33

nervousnails · 15/06/2018 16:33

Has the OP vanished???

ProudThrilledHappy · 15/06/2018 16:34

I hope you are planning to leave them there all afternoon sharron. A cheeky fucker wont stop being a cheeky fucker unless you make it really inconvenient for them

beargrass · 15/06/2018 16:34

Police won't care about this!

Certainly not as much as we do Grin

Tartyflette · 15/06/2018 16:34

I reckon it's been about 45 minutes now (since they turned up to find they're stuck). Hope it goes to an hour. evil cackle

Oldbutstillgotit · 15/06/2018 16:34

Just back from collecting DGS from school where I witnessed a stand up argument about parking( it is atrocious) and I find this thread ! Friday bliss.

LapdanceShoeshine · 15/06/2018 16:34

Somebody once got one of those huge builder's bags of sand dropped right behind the CF on their drive.

That was a happy day.

SharronNeedles · 15/06/2018 16:35

So sorry about the delay! DS just did a mega poop.

So my neighbour is the BEST!
she is actually home (rare!) and came out after getting her note. She's told them the pinkcar is mine but that I just wizzed home to drop my car off before going on holiday for a couple of weeks. And as much as she would love to help them out, the car outside her house isn't actually her's and she doesn't drive. She dropped me sneaky wink after.

They've walked home. Or walked somewhere away. So their cars are just abandoned!
Do I ring and have they towed or just move my car while they're gone so when they come back later, escape is easy and their partners/friends (whatever backup they being with them) will think that they're just drama llamas??

Loving the thread , I can't wait for the outcome, some parents are so lazy

Redgreencoverplant · 15/06/2018 16:36

Love your neighbour, maybe she is on here!

nervousnails · 15/06/2018 16:36

Ace neighbour! And I don't think you can get them towed.

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 15/06/2018 16:36

LEAVE YOUR CAR ALONE OP!!

KalindaBlack · 15/06/2018 16:36

Your neighbour is awesome!!!

StaplesCorner · 15/06/2018 16:36

Your neighbour MUST be on this thread surely? Or did you call and brief her first? Excellent.

SoupDragon · 15/06/2018 16:36

The charitable part of me would go out to give them a chance to apologise profusely for parking on your drive. Obviously they should never have been there but I guess they’ve been doing it all the time the house was empty.

The other part would smother the drive in bird seed and hope for a large flock of pigeons whist settling down with a large glass of something.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 15/06/2018 16:36

Your neighbour is clearly a MNer!

Spanglyprincess1 · 15/06/2018 16:37

Your neighbour is amazing! Lesson here don't park on someone's drive. I'd never ever do that - the cheek!
